A creepy cover and a creepy story. Perfect for it's October release.
Gripping and eerie in all the right places.
Loved it. I would suggest reading it in daylight...

Plenty of action and escapist suspense in this promising first novel. Dr Alex Taylor wakes up, strapped to a surgical table, threatened by a distorted voice in medical garb. When she is later found in the hospital car park, no one believes her story...the plot moves along at a fast pace and there are enough clues to unravel the suspects.

The writing is at times clunky and there's a lack of style, but it's very readable and gripping.

Edge of the seat reading, you're sure Alex is innocent and you are backing the character all the way ..................but there is that slight doubt, what she claims is unlikely but she is your friend and you want to believe her. Well written and scary I just wanted to get to the end to find out did she? Or didn't she? Who was the real villain????

From the very first words of this excellent debut by Liz Lawler, we feel the chilling horror of Alex's realisation of what's happening to her. She slowly wakes to the sounds of beeps and metal instruments but is still in the grips of anaesthesia to be clear what's being done to her. She's an emergency room doctor at the hospital and is comforted by the familiar sounds. She's thinking hard – what can have happened to her, has she been in an accident? As she looks down, she sees that she has a green operating gown on, her thighs are up and calves in stirrups, her arms are velcroed down and her head in blocks with a neck collar, all holding her still. Then the only person in the room with her, a doctor, tells her there's nothing wrong with her. Alex is seething at her treatment, then the doctor tells her to shut up or her lips will be stapled together. Terror runs through her veins, this obviously isn't a real doctor and she's being held on an operating table in a compromising position at the mercy of this person. From here on, the story becomes a real page turner. It becomes very clear in the first few chapters that Dr Alex Taylor isn't believed. She claims she was kidnapped and possibly raped, but all examinations of her show nothing has happened to her body. She is so frustrated by her situation – she knows this was real, it really happened to her but no one will accept it as true.

When another young woman turns up at the emergency room in strange circumstances, and then yet another close to dead actually in Alex's parking space outside her home, things really start hotting up. What is the connection? Have they got similarities with Alex's unexplainable experience?

Alex's personal life is pulled apart, her past, her relationships and her mental state. The characters are well drawn and the hospital emergency room and procedures feels very real. I just felt that the story was a little bit too far fetched – all the pieces fell in front of Alex, but it does make a very good fast paced read, perfect for lovers of chilling thrillers and suspense.

A Gripping fast paced thriller, with an original story. Dr Alex Taylor wakes up to find herself alone in an operating theatre, strapped to an operating table. She is undressed only just a sheet covering her and her legs in stirrups. She doesn’t know how she got there or who put her there. When a man appears in a surgical gown. Alex asks what is wrong with her and the man says ‘there is nothing wrong with you.’
She is then found unconscious in a car park and when she wakes up the doctors can’t find any marks or anything wrong with her and they don’t believe her when she tells them that she has been abducted. Not even her long term boyfriend. They think that she is losing her mind as she had just lost a child during surgery. Dr Alex Taylor is highly recognised doctor.
Weeks go by and a nurse goes missing and found badly injured and other things happen that seem that link Alex to all the crimes. Everybody thinks that Alex is the culprit them..

I really enjoyed this just thought that the ending letting it down being a bit to far fetched.

Very good read! I love the title. The story line is compulsive and chilling. The book is well written with enough twists and turns to keep the reader guessing. It's a good read as it keeps you wanting to keep on reading to know the ending. I would definitely recommend this book.

Wow! This book opens with a doctor being kidnapped and tortured as she leaves the hospital. When she regains consciousness in Emergency, not everyone believes her story. This book grabbed me at the start and never let me go. It has been years since I have devoured a book in one sitting but this one did!!! WOW!
This is a debut novel. I look forward to more.

I thought this was awesome, it is creepy and puts you think. Alex wakes up in a operating room and she is tied up and naked, she does understand what is happening, she can only see her surgeon's eye and he asks her Taylor wakes up one day strapped on an operating table, she realizes that she is naked and that she was anesthetized, she can only see her surgeon's eyes since he has a surgical mask on, after she asks him if she had been in an accident and he declines he asks her "what would a "No" mean?" and lets her struggle to answer then falls back to sleep. When she reawakens, no one believes her, not her co-workers, her boyfriend, no one. She even starts to wonder, if she was making it up, hallucinating, until someone else goes missing, and when she is found, and tell her what that person asks her, it had to be the same person...Chilling!!! You have to read it!!!

An absolutely nail biting opening chapter as Doctor Alex wakes up to find she's strapped to a hospital bed unable to move. She has no memory of being in an accident and isn't in pain. But why has she been left alone? Then she hears a voice, is asked a question and is forced to make a choice just as she loses consciousness. When she next wakes staff tell her she's been found outside the hospital where she works, with a bump on her head. Then Alex tells them what she remembers...

No one believes her, there's no evidence of a crime and the rest of the book sees Alex becoming more and more frustrated by police, friends and work colleagues as she tries to work out who would want to harm her.

There were times when I couldn't put this down, other times when I got a little bored with the cast of possible love interests for Alex! But saying that - loved the grisly bits and look forward to reading more by this author .

Really torn between a 2.5 and a 3 star so rounding up to a 3 star rating.

The description of this book sounded so promising. Alex Taylor, a doctor, wakes up on an operating table. She has no idea how she got there or the identity of the surgeon. Is he even a surgeon? She is tied up and frightened. He makes her an offer. She makes a choice and then wakes up unharmed. To make matter worse, no one believes her. Seriously who would go through the trouble of knocking someone out, strapping them to an operating table and leaving them unharmed. Frustrating, right? How horrible to not be believed and to doubt oneself. Is she alone? Are there other victims?

I was captivated by the description. This sounded like a really good criminal minds episode but it fizzled for me. There are other victims but still no one believed her. I found it very weak that no one saw a connection to the other victims or believed her story. She was a very reliable character. She was believable to me from page one. Perhaps if there would have been some doubt thrown in there i.e. is to make her look or seem unreliable then perhaps this book would have been more appealing to me. She goes form being disbelieved to being a suspect after unusual deaths begin to occur around the hospital. Also I found this book to be a little slow. Things seemed drawn out. Not everyone is as they seem in this book and that is a Good thing (channeling Martha Stewart).

I really wanted this book to be better. I wanted to enjoy it more. I think the description is terrific. This is a debut novel and I believe that with time this Author will really develop her craft and really deliver a psychological thriller which I will enjoy. This one did not live up to my expectations but there is a lot of promise here. I know that I am in the minority on the rating of this book. I see that most people really enjoyed this book. I did like the beginning of this book but then it failed to keep me overly engaged. It slowed and lost some of it's momentum for me.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Don’t Wake Up is a fantastic psychological thriller. It moves along at a rapid pace and keeps us knee-deep in twists and turns. Not only does this book surprise and shock, it also proves to be quite addictive.

Doctor Alex Taylor awakes tied to an operating table in a hospital. And when a strange doctor gives her a single terrible choice, she is forced to choose between options that are as frightening as they are horrific.
Alex Tayor wakes again only this time, she is safe in the hands of a team of friends in her own hospital, having been found unconscious after a bump on the head. But with no signs of harm and only her word against a man – the doctor – who abducted and assaulted her, she is confronted with a life that is swiftly adopting a new and sinister form. Even as the bodies begin to fall, Alex fights to be believed but with no evidence to support her memory, she begins to question her own sanity.

This is not at all what I expected when I began reading. Oddly it wasn’t the first chapter that ‘hooked’ me, it was the second – when no evidence of the assault is found to have taken place. Was she dreaming? Is she ill as the police and her friends suspect? If not, who is his mysterious man?

The characters are well realised and I found myself being completely drawn into Alex’s life. Really enjoyed this novel!

Don’t wake up is an immersive and addictive read that keeps you on the edge of your seat until the shocking conclusion.

Shocking. Addictive. Mysterious.

liz lawler is an amazing author and this book is testament to her skill as the writer

alex a young doctor is kidnapped and held, but when she comes round when she tells her story nobody believes her, she finds it harder and harder to get people to believe her story...as more people are killed with links back to her the police are not going to be looking for anyone else...

this is an edge of the seat book if ever there was one...a great story line that keeps you guessing right to the end

liz lawler is an author to keep an eye on...

This book is intriguing to say the least! I was sucked in from the first and felt the main character's angst at not being believed about what had happened to her by anyone. It was frustrating to know what had happened and to sit with her pain as her friends and family peeled away from being supportive to a non believing point of view..... but did it really happen? You are left questioning everything right throughout this compelling read. The ending was not as strong as the majority of the book, which is a little disappointing but not enough for me to not recommend it. Well worth the read.

The description of the book had me really excited to read it the cover is ok, and the beginning started of strong so I thought great it will get even better getting into it. However that was not the case after she's found and all the people and detectives not believing her just started going on and on then made the book start feeling flat and a bit annoying instead of thrilling and exciting my curiosity was lost so unfortunately this book was definitely not for me.

Dr Alex Taylor finds herself in a nightmare scenario, but no one believes her, not even the man she loves. Things go from bad to worse as each new disaster unfolds. A great story which keeps you on your toes, fast moving, vivid descriptions (a bit too vivid sometimes) - definitely a thriller. I did work out who it was before the reveal but that didn't spoil the story, perhaps the why did, a little. However Alex was a bit too perfect, a goody two shoes really which was ever so slightly annoying. Be careful if you are reading this on public transport because you might just miss your stop!

Many thanks to the author and Netgalley for the advanced digital copy of this novel.
After reading Don’t wake up, I’m looking forward to read more books by this author. This psychological thriller is, despite some small flaws, very well written. Especially the opening, because you are immediately in the middle of a very terrifying experience. It is like you can feel all that’s happening with Alex Taylor. I think this book would do very well as a movie. It has a good mix of strange and frightening things, interesting characters and nice twists and turns in the plot.

I was enticed by the premise, and this book delivered! It was twisty and a bit dark, just how I like my thrillers.

Thank you to NetGalley for my copy of this novel.
