When Cici Johnson's one-night wedding party hookup with tycoon Rich Maguire results in an unexpected pregnancy, she's at first horrified, then committed to making a future with her baby. After contacting Rich, who has no interest in her or the child, she prepares to go it alone, supported by her family and close friends. After growing up in the child welfare system, Jason Hooper has become a family practice lawyer, fighting for the interests of orphaned or neglected children. He's had too many people he cared about walk away to want to get close to anyone, but there's something special about Ceci, who's so determined to do the best for her "little bean." After a sultry summer in Manhattan, a woman who wants to forge ahead alone and a man who wants to help without getting too involved find they can make the most magical future...together. Delightful!

An easy to read romantic book with a good story line with the usual emotional roller coasters one expects in a book of this genre.

'Summer in Manhattan' is an easy-reading romance with a simple concept. Cici finds herself pregnant after a one-night stand, and finds herself navigating the world of dating whilst newly pregnant. It's full of romantic moments and sweet exchanges between the characters, but that's about as far as this book goes. There is no major climax to tie the book together at the end - in fact, I found the ending pretty lacklustre. Although the story itself was an easy read, there were so many errors that it drove me mad. 'Stationary' instead of 'stationery' for example. The formation of some of the sentences was awful, almost as though they were half-finished. I had to re-read things several times to try and make sense of what was being said! I wondered if I was just being pedantic, but it seems other reviewers have given similar feedback. I'd recommend this as a nice quick holiday read, but beyond that there's not much on offer.

First book I've read by this author. I must say I really did love it.
The character and story was just brill xx

this book is number two to her previous book so i was a little worried if i was to understand the characters. Theres two main characters who have a one night stand and law and behold poor woman ends up pregnant, a womans nightmare you might say? Cici wants the baby but the man Rich doesnt want anything from either of them... sound familiar?
theres love, hate, companionship, baby, sex, sweet and so rewarding you wont want to put the book down. Tottally enjoyable. I read this in one day. Thank you to Netgalley

Good story, easy to read with plenty of drama. Very enjoyable and perfect for summer holiday reading and relaxing.

I received an free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book has so many issues that I stopped reading it after getting tired of highlighting the mistakes.
I was 54% of the way through the book but the story started jumping around and it was as if the author forgot what she was writing on the page before. Very disappointed in the quality of this book from an author that I've read before. Words were omitted, sentences didn't make sense, incorrect words were used (tale/tail), the characters were sitting in one paragraph but standing and sitting in the next. I'm not any fancy editor or anything but as a teacher, some of these editing issues should've kept the book from publication.

Cici Johnson has been avoiding Jason Hooper after he rejected her following a hot date. He was scared about the intensity of his feelings and has been regretting his actions ever since. Things have changed a lot since then. Cici fell pregnant after a one night stand and is trying to sort out her emotions. I enjoyed this story. It wasn't predictable and the characters were well developed.

I enjoyed reading Summer in Manhattan by Katherine Garbara. After Cici Johnson has a drunken one night stand with Rich Maguire she unexpectedly ends up pregnant. Rich wants nothing, absolutely nothing to do with the baby or with Cici. Although Cici never expected to become a mom, she is determined to raise her baby with all the love she can. Jason Hooper was abandoned after birth and spent his entire life wondering what family means. He was in and out of the foster care system until being adopted by a wonderful family as a teen. Because of his background, he never gets close to anyone in case they walk away. After meeting Cici he feels like he’s finally found his place and his home. He has to figure out if he can accept Cici and the baby while Cici needs to stop running away and believe that Hoop has her back.
I enjoyed reading this book. It is really a great story showing the importance of friends and family and believing they have your back.s Ms. Garbera is a wonderful story teller, keeping me interested in this story and I definitely recommend this book to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Wished I had read the 1st book before this one. Feel like i had missed out on a lot. Had a good plot, nice characters and a very real storyline you can relate too. Will defo need to go and get the 1st book now.

Summer in Manhattan was a great book that I loved. We meet Cici and Hoop, Cici who is pregnant due to a drunken one night stand and Hoop who was in and out of the fostering system, can they work through the challenges that are thrown at them or should they go their own ways.
A lovely easy to read, that is ideal for a holiday read.

Sweet & satisfying! Two scarred souls, sizzling attraction ... yet life gets in their way over and over again. Can they manage to overcome their individual hang-ups in order to make a relationship work? They both really want to ... but insecurity and fear is a compelling argument against forever!
Cici Johnson hasn't exactly felt like she fit in with her surroundings for most of her life, but she's finally happy in a business with her two best friends and is looking forward to a bright future. Unfortunately her impulsiveness has gotten herself into quite the fix! When a drunken one-night stand leaves her pregnant, she's going to have to learn how to handle it all on her own because the father wants nothing to do with either of them.
Jason Hooper grew up in the foster care system, and even in adulthood, he finds himself expecting people to still turn him away. He tried keeping Cici at arms length even though there was a massive attraction between them when they met, and now when he's having second thoughts, he finds out she's pregnant with another man's baby! He's not sure this is something he can handle, and in all honesty, with the life he's lived, he's not sure he even wants to.

Hoop is the man every woman needs...devoted, charming, nice, handsome, financially stable... he's got it all. All except for CiCi.
CiCi is the woman he refused. And he did it in such a crappy way that she went out and had a one night stand, and found that she was pregnant from it.
But Hoop realized his mistake, and he will do anything for CiCi.
This is a sweet romance.

Summer in Manhattan is a feel good romance. Sexy, sweet, emotional. I love the underlying theme that families can be made by choice and not necessarily by blood. I love Hoop and CiCi and really appreciated that even though they had misunderstandings and weren't sure of anything, they still talked to each other. I've read a lot of Katherine Garbera's books and love them. Summer in Manhattan is a winner!

Spend the summer in the best place on earth (in my opinion!), NYC! Cici and Hoop are two complex characters who have the same wariness about commitment and what it means to be a family. And when Cici finds out she's pregnant from a one night stand, the meaning of family is definitely called into question!
Cici is co-owner of a successful dessert/chocolate shop called the Candied Apple & Cafe and I dare you to read this and not crave something decadent!
Super enjoyable, fun read!
Thank you for the advanced copy...

This is a sequel to Garbera’s book, The Hot Cop Next Door, about three women who have opened up a candy store and cafe on Fifth Avenue. I haven’t read the first book, but most things are pretty well explained, although I still had a feeling as if a lot of the action had taken place before this book begins.
As the book opIt turns out that Cici and Hoop are really ideal for each other. They both have uncertainties from their childhoods about what being a family means. Hoop was abandoned as a newborn and had bounced around between foster homes until one family adopted him and helped him realize what family really was. But he still fears being abandoned. And getting involved with a woman pregnant with another man’s child is enough to reawaken all those uncertainties. Cici has enough to deal with adjusting to the idea of being a mother without the father taking a role to really know what she wants with Hoop. So there is a lot of dithering back and forth for both of them, especially Cici and it gets a bit tiresome.
But what I really liked is that these seem like real people, or as real as an attractive couple in a romance novel can be. She admits that her stomach is a bit poochy and her eyesight is poor. He worries that he doesn’t have a six-pack. When is the last time that a hero in a romance didn’t have a six-pack or was self-conscious that he didn’t.
What Hoop is is a very nice, good man. He gives back for what his adoptive parents gave him by being active in the Big Brother program. He left his career being a policeman to going into family law because he wants to help others.
There were some details that I would have liked a quick explanation for. Cici and her friends have opened a business on Fifth Avenue. Where did they get the start-up money for that? She has a two-story apartment that sounds like it’s in Manhattan. Who has the money for that sort of housing anywhere in New York City? I would have liked to have had a few sentences thrown in to explain that.
But, all in all, I enjoyed these characters and was glad that they found their HEA.
I was given a free ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
