Rosie is the manager of a slightly run down hotel in Scarborough, looking after the motley crew of permanent residents as well as dealing with the eccentric staff members. When the hotel is sold she has to contend with a change manager working on the orders of the two American brothers who want to 'update' the hotel. This was a fun, light read and I enjoyed Rosie's bristly comments and the humour throughout. There is an unexpected twist at the end and the residents, although unconventional, are very endearing and lovable.

Thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins for sending a digital copy of this book. It wasn't quite what I was expecting when I started to read but soon got into the story, and what a fun tale it was. A good range of characters, mainly eccentric, who gelled very well with the storyline which proceeded gently as did the underpinning romances. Plenty of laugh out loud moments. Read this if you're needing amoodlightening few hours.

I absolutely loved this book. Rosie is a manager at a lovely old fashioned hotel in Scarborough. They welcome the locals with lots of small fun events. They also have some long term residents who are housed by the local council. When they hotel is taken over by an American team , huge changes are in store.
You can just imagine the old Victorian building moaning in protest as the loud and garish furnishings are coming in through the front door. Their whole ethos and the wonderful friendships are under threat.
The transitions manager bought in to oversee the whole process manages to earn the heart of Rosie despite her reservations due to past experiences.
You can just imagine booking a week in the hotel as it was and really loving relaxing in it's cosiness. But also having a £90 meal in their new style sounds tempting! I guess change is inevitable to ensure that things thrive in the modern world- but there must be a small corner for this hotel.
It is a lovely warm story, I enjoyed the skype meetings with the American bosses, and loved the exchanges amongst all the local characters.

The beautiful cover and the blurb and the fact that we get another Lilly Bartlett book, got me all excited. I loved her previous books and couldn’t wait to dive into this one.
In this story we get to follow lovely Rosie, who works in hotels. She is back in her home town now. She used to work in New York and had plans to go to Paris with her friend Digby. However, a guy called Chuck comes along and she falls in love with him.
That was years ago now, but it’s still part of her story.
In Scarborough she works at an old seaside hotel and it’s time for some changes at the hotel, at least according to transition manager Rory. Not everybody is happy about this... And then there is Rory... let’s say the have some „moments.“
The story switches between her time in Scarborough now and her past in New York. This gives us readers a great insight to Rosie’s life and feelings. Every time she shares a moment with Rory, she thinks of what happened with Chuck, which doesn’t make the whole situation easier.
The characters in this book are wonderful and well lined out. I really enjoyed following them around. I really liked the seaside/Florida vibe oft he hotel and Bartlett’s writing just adds so many sparks to the story. It’s vivid, bubbly, fresh and full of heart and passion!
Rating: 4.5/5

The Big Dreams Beach Hotel, written by Lilly Bartlett, is the perfect summer read! This is novel that will have you laughing out loud as you get to know and love the eccentric cast of characters.
Rosie never imagined she would return to her hometown after her time spent working at a hotel in New York. However, that's exactly where she has been for the last three years...working at a hotel in her quiet seaside hometown of Scarborough, while trying to heal from a broken heart. The hotel has been losing money for many years, and caters more to the community than actual hotel guests. All of that is about to change when the owner, The Colonel, decides to sell the hotel...sight unseen...to a pair of brothers from America. Beach Vacations Inc is the company that now owns the hotel, and they have hired Rory to oversee the transition and remodel. Rosie and Rory get off on the wrong track initially, but being forced to work together, their relationship improves in time.
Everyone at the hotel is worried about this new change, especially the permanent residents of the hotel. What will happen to them? Rosie is completely horrified when she realizes the new owners plan to remodel the quaint Victorian hotel to look like a hotel straight out of the eighties hit television show Miami Vice...pastel colors and gaudy decorations. Change is usually a good thing, but in this case, only time will tell.
First let me say that the author has perfectly balanced the pace and layout of the storyline! This story is literally filled with an abundance of humor and an eccentric and quirky...but completely lovable...cast of characters. As the story progresses, more is told about the heartbreak Rosie endured from the man she met while working in New York City, Chuck. It is actuly quite funny because Rosie often confuses Rory with her memories of Chuck, and this is how that relationship is revealed throughout the story.
The new owners do not have passports, and are afraid to fly, therefore, their meetings take place using Skype. I found myself laughing out loud when Rosie meets one of the brothers (PK) through Skype for the first time. The author uses very descriptive details to describe his looks, and you literally can visualize the entire scene. Each character is well written, and each has a story to tell, including the supporting characters. You will fall in love with these amazing characters, even with the grumpy ex-military man known as Chef. Overall, this is a heartwarming, and often hilarious story. The personal stories of each character are as different as they are interesting...and all will touch your heart! I honestly cannot begin to put into words just how wonderful this book truly is. I hope you give it a chance...you will not regret it!
I would like to thank HarperCollins UK/HarperImpulse and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read and review this book. My views are my own and are in no way influenced by anyone else.

I was really looking forward to reading this book, partly because of its gorgeous cover. Sadly, the inside was more disappointing. Although the story had promise and most of the characters were interesting, the writing was inconsistent, jarring and felt like the penmanship of a novice author. Marred with tedious prose and inane dialogue, it was difficult to really sink into the story. Entire scenes could be excised or at least edited with a heavy hand. I valiantly read the book through, and it was a pleasant enough read for the most part, but the ending felt too convenient. I wouldn't be in a hurry to read anything else by this author.

The Big Dreams Beach Hotel hooked me in from the first few pages I loved it, a great book to read while on holiday.
We are first introduced to Rosie while she is working in New York, she meets a man who becomes the love of her life..... but all is not as it seems.
We then jump to Rosie back home working in Scarborough and it then flicks for a few chapters between New York and Scarborough before settling on her life now in Scarborough. A fab book that I enjoyed.

I loved the cover of this beautiful book it drew me to read straightaway. The main character Rosie works in hotels. She has returned to her roots in Scarborough and is working in an old dated seaside hotel. The owner decides to sell the hotel to a big American hotel group who make many changes. The transition manager Rory is sent to help with these changes.
Rosie's last job was in New York in a prestigious hotel where she met Chuck and fell head over heels in love.
The story switches between Rosie's present day life in Scarborough and her previous one in New York . I did find this a bit confusing at first but hey that's probably me!!!! As Rory and Rosie become close can she forget the pain from her previous relationship with Chuck? Will their relationship work with him about to leave soon? Can she trust again?
There are plenty of real life moments in this book friendship , fun, laughs and relationships. The perfect book to read on a sunny summer day.
Thanks to Netgallery, the author and publisher for my copy which I read and reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

This novel's beautiful cover first drew me in and luckily the story was equally as eye-catching. This is my first novel by Lilly Bartlett (and Michele Gorman) and I wasn't disappointed. This novel is told in first POV of Rosie. Rosie has been back in her seaside hometown, Scarborough for three years after a short stint in New York City. The reader is kept in the dark about the details of Rosie's sudden departure from New York City. Rosie is currently managing a quaint little Victorian hotel in Scarborough when the owner sells it to some Americans that want to covert the hotel into replicas of their other Floridian hotels. Rosie's new love interest is Rory, "the transition manager" who has been hired to implement the new changes at the hotel.
This novel is full of charming and unique secondary characters such as the 80 year old Colonel and Peter, the narcoleptic dog trainer. Rosie was a very likeable character as she was loyal, funny and relatable. Lovers of the chicklit genre are sure to enjoy this book just like I did.

A lovely read with quirky, yet sympathetic characters and a substantial story that will keep you entertained and touch your heart.
Rosie, a lovely, kind Yorkshire girl from Scarborough, can't get out of her hometown fast enough to see the world and learn the trade of hotel management. She feels very lucky to be able to do that in New York and when a handsome & loving American sweeps her off her feet, she is certain her Happy Ever After is around the corner. However, what waits around one of the corners of the Big Apple is a Big Disaster. A shocked and disappointed Rosie hightails it back to Scarborough where she finds herself in charge of a lovely, but dilapidating hotel where glamour, money and paying guests are scarce and so is career-advancement. The permanent residents of the hotel -housed there by the social well-fare schemes of the council- are odd & eccentric, but they become Rosie's friends, so when the profit-oriented new owners want to get rid of them, she is forced to be taking sides, but she just cannot bring herself to do that. And there is also Rory, the "transition manager", who seems considerate, supportive and also cute, but employed by the new owners nonetheless.
The story offers a more substantial plot than what I came to expect from the chicklit genre and this has been a nice surprise, but it never gets overheavy. The plot manages to keep a great balance between being entertaining and giving you some food for thought. The characters are memorable and likeable and the romance was just to my taste: engaging, realistic but not all-inclusive. The fact that the heroine and her love interest manage to voice & discuss their problems, like adults should do, instead of running away and creating misunderstanding is an added bonus.
Bravo, Lilly Bartlett!

Thanks Netgalley, Publisher and most importantly the author. I was in utter stitches reading this book and all the characters in the hotel.

The Big Dreams Beach Hotel was a pleasant enough read. It didn't blow me away but I enjoyed reading it over a couple of days.
It follows the story of Rosie who's back in her hometown of Scarborough as manager at a quaint Victorian hotel. It's a far cry from three years ago when she was working at a hotel in New York. However, the hotel has been sold to Americans who try to modernise is and send in a Transitions Manager, Rory, to oversee the work. Will Rory move from foe to friend or possibly more?
There are some great characters and some interesting ones too and I did fall in love with Barry!!
As I stated at the start, I found this book pleasant enough to read. It would be perfect to read whilst relaxing on a sun lounger somewhere and whiling away a few hours.
Thank you to NetGalley, Harper Collins UK and the author for the chance to review.

Thank you to Netgalley and the Publishers for this review copy.
This is definitely one of those books where the cover draws you in. Such a beautiful colourful cover that just makes you want to pick the book up straight away and get started. In this story, we meet Rosie. Rosie works in hotels. Her last job was in New York but she’s now back in her home town of Scarborough and living in her mum and dad’s house whilst they are travelling. In New York she was working in a prestige hotel, planning to move to Paris to work and train in more hotels with her friend Digby, when she meets Chuck (yeah, I know….Chuck!). Chuck has been told he needs to arrange a Christmas party for the firm that he works for and, after visiting the hotel that Rosie is working in, requests that Rosie organises it on behalf of the hotel. Obviously there is a connection between them and she ends up falling for him big time. The story is split between Rosie’s time in New York and the story regarding Chuck and present time with Rosie working in a hotel in Scarborough. In Scarborough, she is working in what was once, I’m sure, a prestige seaside hotel! It is old and dated, with its own sitting tenants and is struggling to make ends meet. The owner decides to sell up to a big American Hotel firm who come in with its own transition manager, Rory and make sweeping changes which include pink and green uniforms and flamingos on the cushions!
You are kept hanging on to Rosie’s story which switches between present day in Scarborough and a couple of years previous when she was working in New York. Every time there is a ‘moment’ with Rory, she compares it to what went wrong with Chuck and as the story goes on you get to find out what really happened in New York. Back in Scarborough, Rosie resigns herself to a life of bingo (where everyone gets a prize), dog pampering and karaoke. She is also single but when Rory comes into her life, is that all about to change? The stories of the live-in residents are funny and heart-warming, and you feel for them when the new American company come in with their rules and regulations. Can Rosie stop them from turning the hotel into a wildly eccentric, vastly overpriced boutique hotel, protect all the residents from a life on the streets and win the heart of Rory?
The characters in this book are lovely and all with a lovely story. I have to admit my favourite character is Peter, the narcoleptic children’s entertainer….oh and of course his dog Barry! Perfect story for a lazy hot summer’s day! Book me a room flower, because where else would I want to be!

I’m not usually too keen on novels that switch back and forth through time but, as I love Lilly Bartlett’s books, I was willing to give this one a try! It was great, I had no trouble distinguishing between what was happening now, and what happened three years ago. It worked really well and the whole story was seamless. Rosie’s career was very successful and she worked in the hotel industry in New York. Something happened that made her return to the UK and to a slightly shabby hotel in her own town. Totally believable and full of lovely, interesting characters, “The Big Dreams Beach Hotel” had me hooked from the first page and I didn’t want it to end. I really hope that we might return to Rosie and friends at some point in the future! Highly recommended :)

I loved reading this book! The split past and present narrative was a great addition as we found out what happened in New York alongside her budding relationship with Rory so we gradually came to understand why she was holding back. I adore the cover - if I saw this in a shop it would draw me to it straight away with the bright colours and sea view. This was a light, fluffy, happy read - not necessarily particularly unique though. You could sort of guess what was going to happen but it was still enjoyable anyway! I loved all the characters - from the residents at the hotel to the crazy new American owners. Adoring Florida I actually liked a lot of what the new owners were doing to the hotel - even flamingos!! Thank you for the chance to read and review!

My apologies but I cant review this book as I didnt finish it and it wouldn't be fair for me to do so. I just found it too confusing, didnt really click with it. Sorry.

3.5 stars
At first, I'll be honest - it took me a while to get into. I think what it was is that I was actually confused as to where it was meant to be set! Was it in New York or was it in England? (It's set in England, just FYI). After I realised where it was set I did get into a bit more and started to enjoy the story.
I've never read a book by this author, so I didn't know what to expect. One things for certain though, all of the authors books have absolutely stunning covers! They draw the reader in and I for one fell in love with the cover of this novel. The colours are beautiful and I simply adore the bunting going across the top!
I think one of the things that confused me at the beginning (wondering if it was set in NYC or not) was actually one of the things I did enjoy about this book in the end - you see, the story is set around main character Rosie and her journey as to why she left her job in NYC. Throughout the book there are 'flashback' in which we go back and learn a bit more. I don't want to give too much away obviously but this was certainly one of the things that kept making me want to keep reading!
The characters were all really quirky and unique and another thing I enjoyed was that there was a real sense of friendship and community between those who worked at the hotel - reading it made me want to be part of it! I liked Rosie's character and found her to be easy to relate to. One thing I didn't think was entirely plausible was Rory's character and his place within the story - again I won't go into too much detail but I found sometimes I was a little bored reading about him.
Overall, it was an easy, romantic read. I wouldn't say it was one of my favourite books but it was enjoyable.
Thank you to Netgalley and to the publisher for a chance to read this novel, which I have reviewed honestly.

Plenty of twists in this unusual book. And I learned a lot about the hotel trade! Loved the way Lily was disparaging about Chuck's name - one of the very funny bits in the book! I really enjoy the fact that the characters are not the norm - not super good looking or incredibly brainy. Normal people (although some of the hotel residents would hardly be described as normal!) Loved it :)

Rosie works in a hotel where she has just celebrated three years at, however her boss has shocked them all by selling the hotel and so in transition, Rory is sent in as the hotel company from the US makes staff, restaurant and building changes.
Rosie left the USA after an experience with Chuck as she began an intense relationship with him whilst she had just planned his companies work Christmas Party. But then it effects her relationship with Digby as she would sacrifice anything for love and Chuck despite what a user he turns out to be, a Tiffany necklace broke their relationship, along with lies and Rosie was heartbroken but better off without him!
But now in Scarborough, Rory and her are getting close while she fights off the feelings reminding her of her failed relationship, can she make this work between them as he will be leaving in the coming months?
I enjoyed reading this book, even if I did think it was longer and more drawn out but I did enjoy the split past/present split narrative as we died find out all about Chuck and their past not just her life now with the odd sentence thrown in. Lilly is a new author to me and she's definitely one to watch out for new books from in the future!
Many thanks to the publishers for allowing me to review this book for them!

First, let me just vocalize my pleasure with the cover of this book. This cover caught me hook, line, and sinker because of the colours and aesthetic in general. It looked like such a cute and fun read that I had to get my hands on!
Overall, this novel read like the average mass market romance comedy. It was an enjoyable and funny read but unfortunately, there wasn't anything necessarily unique about it.
Definitely a quick, cute, and fast read to pass the time but do not go into this book with overly high expectations other than a light and fluffy read.
