Brilliant writing, another winner from this brilliant author. The second in the D S Ruby Preston series and although this book could be read as a stand alone I recommend that you read them in order to get the full background. Ruby is the type of copper who thinks the rule book should be used to prop up a wonky table leg and fortunately her D I Jack Downes let's her get on with her job because he knows she will get results. Three young women are found murdered, two of the bodies are found in a macabre way, depicting characters from fairy stories. Ruby is determined to find the killer especially when her lover Nathan is implicated in two of the murders. I can't praise this book enough, I absolutely loved it

I absolutely love Caroline's work, she doesn't hang back, and produces gritty, gory thrillers. Love them, The grittier the better. This book is no exception with Ruby mixing her worlds of policing and villains. This time her boyfriend is in the frame, and with pressure to "get him off" from the family and catch the killer, the race is on. There's a lot of surprises in this book with twists and turns that even amazed me. It's an excellent sequel and I hope Caroline writes more. Thank you to netgalley for my advanced copy.

I did really like this book but the ending just didn't do it for me. It seemed weak and rushed hence 3 stars.

Again Ruby' s personal and professional lives clash and loyalties are tested like never before in a gruesome, complicated case.
Mitchell writes with a rare authenticity, making the main characters flaws, rule touting and dedication to both sides of her life feel much more believable than most authors would be able to.
A thoroughly absorbing read, unplug the phone and expect to go without sleep until you turn the last page.

This book was fantastic, I loved every single page! The characters in the book are great, really likeable, Ruby in particular and I really liked the story line. This was a real page turner for me, I really had a hard time putting it down. If I could give this 6 stars I would, I loved it.

Oh my goodness, I loved this book!!  I have read every book now that Caroline Mitchell has released and I have loved them all, so I was really excited when I got an opportunity to read and review and advanced review copy of her latest book... and boy did she smash it!  I couldn't put it down!!

The story is dark, twisted and full of detail. I loved Ruby's character from the first book and in this one she has developed even more, you can read this one as a stand alone, but I'd recommend reading the first in the series if you can.  I loved the story concept and its done really well, I put down the book I was ready when this one arrived on my Kindle and was so glad that I did, its a wicked storyline in so many ways and I would love to know where the inspiration came from for this book as it's definitely one of the best I've read lately in the crime genre- 5 stars no hesitation. The review will be posted on my blog on publication date.

This is the second book in the Ruby Preston series that i have read by Caroline and holy moly, this was an absolute corker. It had everything. Twists, turns, upside downs.......the lot! I read this book in a day and honestly couldn't turn the pages quickly enough to find out what happened next. It is so easy to relate to the characters in the Ruby Preston series as the books are so well written. This book will leave you holding your breath. Just remember to breathe at the end of it!! Cant wait for the next instalment.
