I had not read any of the previous Jordan Lacey books which was quite a drawback as there were frequent references to events that had happened before I felt this put me at a distinct disadvantage.
Jordan is a private investigator. She is a believer in taking on jobs when you can get them which often results in her biting off more than she can chew. As Christmas approaches she agrees to investigate a suspected fraudulent claim for damages against the local upmarket department store. She ends up working in the store to investigate missing goods. When the owner's son, who originally asked her to investigate the claim is found dead on a fairground ride and her friend is badly beaten up Joran decides this not the season of good will.
This was a fast moving story with some interesting characters. I really liked Jordan's self deprecating narrative. At times I found the story a bit far fetched and relied quite a bit on previous stories. It is not ideal as a stand alone but as part of a series it is an enjoyable read. I really wanted to give it 3.5 stars but rounded it up rather than down. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this.
