The lies within by Jane Isaac.
The DI Will Jackman Thrillers Book 3.
Grace Daniels is distraught after her daughter's body is found in a Leicestershire country lane. With her family falling apart and the investigation going nowhere, Grace's only solace is the re-emergence of Faye, an old friend who seems to understand her loss. DI Will Jackman delves into the case, until a family tragedy and a figure from his past threaten to derail him. When the police discover another victim, the spotlight falls on Grace. Can Jackman find the killer, before she is convicted of a crime she didn't commit?
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I do love this series. I love Grace. I do hope there is more to come. 5*.
A great Police Crime drama, but i struggled to connect with the characters and storyline. With hindsight, maybe i should have read the previous ones in the series first.
The Lies Within: A DI Will Jackman Crime Thriller by Jane Isaac
5 stars!
This was my first read of a book by Jane Isaac, but it wont be my last! A fun, enjoyable read that kept me guessing until the last page.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley who provided this e-book in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in return for my honest opinion.
What a great read! I wish I had realized that this was the third in the series and that I would love it so much, I would have started with the first two books in the DI Will Jackman series and went from there. I don't feel that I needed to read the other books to enjoy this story, it was quite enjoyable, but I will definitely be reading the others.
I instantly loved DI Will Jackman, I mean, he's no Joe Kenda, but I was hooked! In trying to solve this case we see what type of man Will is and the author gives us enough detail on him from the past that we feel for him. Grace Daniels is charged with murder and then the story goes back almost a year and we see what led to this charge. A simple storyline that was told in such a wonderful way that I was in edge the whole time. I started to read this book over breakfast one morning and had the whole book read by the next day, staying up late to finish. I had to get to the conclusion. Fantastic.
I will definitely check out more books from this author, starting with the first two DI Will Jackman books.
I love this series that features DI Jackman. He's the kind of detective that you would always want rooting in your corner.
Grace Daniels is left distraught when her daughter's body is found naked in a quiet country lane. With everything going wrong around her she finds comfort when a friend from the past. This book is slightly different from the previous novels in that it features rather heavily on Grace's character and how she deals with the aftermath of such a tragedy. The book is very cleverly woven with great characterisation, and the storytelling is brisk ensuring the engagment of the reader. As a reader you're really kept guessing throughout as to what the truth really is. Brilliantly done by Ms Isaac. As ever, I love Jackman and I really hope good things happen for him in the future. Fingers crossed!
I very much enjoyed this book and really look forward to the next in this terrific series. I just hope there will be another!!
Highly recommend. My thanks to all for my ARC received. Much appreciated.
Thanks to netgalley for the opportunity to have read this great book. This was the third book in the DI Will Jackman series. The book reads nicely as a standalone, but I recommend that you read the previous books in the series. This is a brilliant series, and highly recommended.
Thank you for allowing me to read this early release so I can review. This book was worth the time just needed a bit more "something" to make it stand out
Definitely recommend this book and the series to anyone who likes this genre.
Thanks for the advanced copy
THE LIES WITHIN by bestselling author Jane Isaac is the third DI Will Jackman Crime Thriller. I have read and loved her previous books in the series: Before It’s Too Late (Book 1) and Beneath the Ashes (Book 2), and this is another winner! I literally did not want this book to end. I highly recommend reading all three books but I advise they be read in order to fully appreciate the ongoing character development, though the plots are standalones. This is a series I plan to read future novels in this series.
This is not a long novel…but it packs a punch and has you totally committed to finding out the truth! Once you start this book you will not be able to put it down. A perfect crime!
“Be under no illusions by her kind face and eloquent manner… This woman is guilty of murder.”
“The body of a woman has been found in rural Leicestershire. A cyclist discovered the body on his ride home from work. The victim is naked thought to be late teens-strangled-No ID. No witnesses and signs of sexual assault.”
Grace Daniels is distressed after her daughter's body, Jo Lamborne is found in a Leicestershire country lane. With her family falling apart and the investigation going nowhere, Grace's only comfort is the re-emergence of Faye, an old friend who seems to understand her loss.
Previously, two other women had also been attacked on their way home from a night out. (Operation Ascott) Could there be a connection?
In this third book in the DI Will Jackman series, Will has been assigned as regional lead on Adult Sexual Offences, and temporarily promoted to Chief Inspector to review outstanding cases. He investigates into the case, until a family tragedy and a figure from his past threaten to disrupt him.
When the police discover another victim, the spotlight falls on Grace. Can Jackman find the killer, before she is convicted of a crime she didn't commit?
A gripping thriller … highly recommended.
Many thanks to Jane Isaac, Legend Press and Netgalley for the ARC.
The third book in the DI Will Jackman series by Jane Isaac and WoW does it live up to my expectations and much more. An unputdownable book which will have you gasping for breath and send you on a rollercoaster ride of your life.
From the start I was addicted, the short prologue with a damning closing argument of a trial in which Grace is accused of murder, I had to read on, I needed to know the Who, How's, Where's and When's. The prologue sucked me right in.
Three women, one dead, Graces daughter Jo. DI Will Jackman is drafted in to help find the killer. Grace becomes withdrawn, in absolute despair of the loss of Jo, shutting her family and the world away until a long lost friend rekindles a friendship. But is all as it seems, is Faye to be trusted.
Jane has managed to spin a web of lies and deceit throughout this storyline which draws you in further, some red herrings and some surprises. I couldn't put it down, only thing was I couldn't read in one sitting, work got in the way, not a bad thing though it meant I could savour the book longer.
I would highly recommend The Lies Within, I dare you to try and put it down.
With thanks to NetGalley, Jane Isaac and Legend Press for an advanced copy for an honest review.
Grace Daniels is having a hard time coping with her grief after her daughter Jo's murdered body is found. DI Will Jackman is appointed as the case SIO because it appears similar to the unsolved sexual assaults he is reviewing.
A very well plotted story that moved at a good pace and was totally believable. The characters were realistic with convincing dialogue. A lot of suspense that carried on to a great ending made this a very enjoyable read. I highly recommend it.
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read the advanced copy. I enjoyed this, the third in the DI Will Jackman series, equally as much as the first two. a real page turner and very emotional as well as gripping from start to finish. Definitely a must read.
Good read! A whodunit that kept me guessing until the last page. Although the situation with Grace and Faye was a bit far-fetched, it's still a good book.
The Lies Within by Jane Issac
DI Will Jackman is on secondment from his beloved Stratford-upon-Avon to Leicester where he’s working on a project to assess procedure on old unsolved sexual crimes. He’s also supposed to be getting over an injury, confined to a desk for his own good. But when a young girl is murdered in a case that mirrors the crimes he’s studying, Jackman leaps at the chance to take over as senior investigating officer. The victim is student Jo Lambert and her murder attracts a great deal of attention from the media and public as Jackman and his team meticulously work through the clues to identify her killer.
But Jo was more than a victim. She was also the daughter of Grace Daniels, stepdaughter of Phil, and sister of teenager Lydia. And Grace is transformed completely by the loss of her daughter and the relentless agony and isolation of her grief. It leaves her totally vulnerable. So while the police investigation goes in one direction, Grace’s story takes her into the unknown and it can only get worse. Much worse.
The Lies Within is the third novel in Jane Isaac’s series to feature DI Will Jackman. There are reminders of previous novels, especially regarding Jackman’s relationships, but this is a novel that stands alone very well indeed. The fact that it takes place in Leicester, in unknown territory, also makes it stand apart from the others.
I like Will Jackman a great deal. He’s quiet and kind and, despite some serious heartache in his life, he doesn’t carry its burden into the job. The Lies Within continues Jackman’s story but it certainly doesn’t get in the way of the novel’s main focus, which is the investigation of Jo’s murder and, in parallel, Grace’s personal descent into darkness.
The Lies Within is a marvellous novel, most definitely my favourite of the series so far. It took no time at all for me to become completely involved in the investigation and in Grace’s story. As the narrative alternates between Jackman and Grace, both such fascinating and well-developed characters, I became so hooked I did not want to put it down for a moment. The final third of the novel in particular is absolutely fantastic and incredibly tense. This is extraordinarily powerful storytelling, supported by some intense descriptions of something I’m not going to tell you about. I had to know what happened. I can’t remember the last time I was so utterly immersed in the denouement of a novel that I forgot where I was as I read it. Blimey, that ending! I suspected little bits but it’s the way in which it’s told – fabulous!
I’ve enjoyed this series since the first but with The Lies Within it joins the few crime series that will always push their way to the top of my reading pile.

Before It’s Too Late
Beneath the Ashes
Last year I read another book in Jane Isaac’s DI Jackman crime series (Beneath the Ashes) and although I enjoyed it and found it readable I was dismayed by the somewhat clichéd language and stereotypical characterisation. In this new novel she has to a large degree avoided this and overall I found it a much better constructed and focussed novel. It’s a plot driven tale of a murder and a possible serial murderer, and it’s a real-page turner with a compelling narrative drive and believable characters. Very good indeed.
I love this series. And I love Will Jackman.
He's not your usual run of the mill hard cop. I've got to know him quite well.
He's trying to solve this particular case when there are 9 years separating this particular case that seems to have a connection with the past one.
It's a snappy fast paced read which I thoroughly took to heart and enjoyed.
I would like to thank Lucy PA for sending me an advanced copy as a gift. She knows I'm a huge fan of this authors books.
Will Jackman is back in the latest in this series and he has been seconded over to Leicester police force to work on reviewing outstanding cases of adult sexual assault offences. He is currently trying to link the assault of Shelley Barnstaple and Eugenie Trentwood, both attacks bear similarities but happened nine years apart, could it be the same person that attacked them? While Will is there a crime is called in, the body of a young girl has been found which also bears some similarity to the previous two, Will requests that he heads this one up too and his request is begrudgingly approved.
The latest victim is identified as Jo Lamborne, a Nottingham University student who was home for the weekend for a family wedding, when Grace and Phil, her parents are informed, their world is naturally turned upside down and Will and his team are determined to find the killer and bring them to justice. The events that follow are very disturbing for the family, especially when a rekindled friendship between Grace and Faye turns sour. Who is Faye and where does she fit in with all of this, and will Jackman and his team get the result they want?
The author has depicted this story incredibly well and the courtroom drama is captivating. I read this book within a day, it had me hooked from start to finish and just when I thought I'd worked it out, everything changed. A truly brilliant read and I hope to see more from Will and his team in the future. Thank you to Legend Press for the approval. I will post my review on Goodreads now and on Amazon on publication day.
Quite brilliant.
This series is becoming a firm favourite of mine. I love the way you feel like you're within the story itself, a part of it. Dark, twisty and psychological and totally my kind of thing.
Three attacks on women, two murders, who is the killer of Jo Lambourne and just who is this long lost friend of Grace?
I have yet to read a book of Isaac's that I haven't enjoyed and like the others, this book was also a little corker that had me gripped from start to finish. I did find some of the plot predictable, including the ending though, which is the reason for the four, rather than five stars. I enjoyed the court room drama element to the story, which took the reader away fom the usual formulaic crime thriller that other authors so often adhere to. All in all a very good read that I would definitely recommend.
Many thanks to the Netgalley who provided me with this ARC. I chose to read it and give a voluntary and unbiased review.
Grace Daniels is happy - she's married to her second husband Phil, has two daughters Jo and Lydia, stepdaughter Chloe and granddaughter Meggy. Then her world is turned upside down when Jo's murdered body is found the morning after a family wedding. DI Will Jackman has been working with Leicestershire Police reviewing two sexual assaults that appear linked but remain unsolved. He is appointed as SIO for Jo's case as the murder appears similar to the previous two assaults. Will and his team can't find anyone linked to all three victims and the case seems to be going nowhere. Will also has to contend with more health issues for his wife and the return of a colleague he found attractive when they worked together previously. While struggling with Jo's loss Grace reconnects with an old school friend, Faye = she seems to be the only person she can talk openly to - but is Faye all that she claims to be? Then there's another murder and Grace finds her self accused and standing trial but Will isn't totally convinced the right person is on trial. Fantastic read from start to finish. More Will Jackman soon please.
Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and Jane Isaac for the opportunity to read and review this book.
