This book had me on the edge of my seat early on. As a mumof twins I loved how their complex sibling relationship was explored. It really felt like you were watching in on a family and anticipating what the next twist would be. As the story developed I felt all kind of emotions, sadness, shock and empathy.
What stood out to me was how someone's decision can have such a lasting impact on a whole family, even years after the event and how memories from childhood never leave us infact they can shape the rest of our lives. It is completely believable and addictive. The final twist at the end I didn't see coming but somehow it made perfect sense in hindsight. Well written and enjoyable if at times uncomfortable story lines but overall brilliant I loved it! Would love to read more books from this author.
I read this book in just two sittings, would not want to spoil it for others but it definitely had the 'I wasn't expecting that' factor. The characters were believable and there were enough twists to keep you turning the pages. The Title and description had me feeling a little on edge but thankfully it wasn't too horrific .
Overall I would definitely recommend this to those who like a little suspense with the odd twist and change to keep you guessing
Having struggled with the author's first novel, this is a vast improvement! Really enjoyed it, fast paced and kept me gripped.
A well written fast paced book that kept me interested all the way through, with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing. I will look for more by this author and recommend.
Compelling read - empathetic characters despite their circumstances. The author draws you in and manages the different times and narrators very well. Would definitely recommend.
This book covers so many difficult subjects that it makes it a rather draining read.
What an addictive read!! This book is full of twists and turns and really captures the relationship's between siblings and step families. One of the most well written thrillers I have read in some time and literally could not put the book down. Really showcased Holly's great story telling skills! Can't wait to talk about this book with others
Excellent book with a great twist in it. Will definitely read this again soon!
Well I really liked this book, it's about twins girls Sarah and Robin and some very strange family dynamics!!!!
It goes back and forth in time to show the events that lead up to how and why the sisters are like they are and why they live how they do, they haven't spoken for years and thenall of a sudden they are thrown together again, it was a great book at the end I'm like what??? A total in your face ending haha.... It had me going that's for sure and I couldn't put it down. A must read for sure.
Thoroughly enjoyed this read.
The delivery was brilliant as we learnt about the protagonists in past and present snippets, eventually culminating in some epic reveals and twists.
Heart-breaking at times, emotional throughout, these two families had me gripped from the first page.
Thank you NetGalley and Atlantic Books for a review copy.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this book. I have to say this book is by far the best I've read so far this year. It's not what I expected at all, it was so much better. The storyline was absolutely fantastic, the characters were brilliant, I wasn't expecting the twist. All I can say is WOW brilliant writing.
I've been given a copy of this book by the publishers via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I was quite excited to read this book however, for me, it didn't live up to my expectations. The story centres around two families and involves separation, step-families, child custody, suicide, sexual assault and mental health issues. Whilst it sounds like there's a lot going on in this book it actually made me feel where exactly is this story going? I stuck with it to the end but felt quite disappointed. The storyline was too slow for my liking and left me with many questions unanswered.
Great story - I did not expect it to turn out the way it did.
Thanks for the advanced copy
I was absolutely enthralled with this novel and found the lives past and present of Robin and Sarah compelling. Unfortunately I found the last third of the novel seemed to run out of steam a little. However all in all an excellent read
Truly enjoyed that book! Touching, hitting you emotionally sometimes. Well planned, with lots of details, but only when needed. I wouldn't change much, maybe some little things, only if I had to. I'm giving the book 5 stars, for keeping me awake until 3am yesterday.
Terrific psychological thriller. I love psychological thrillers but I've read so many, it's hard NOT to see where the story is going and I am often disappointed by those which promise "didn't see that coming". This one didn't disappoint!
Told in present day and flashbacks from the perspective of twin sisters in short, easy read chapters. Their parents are very friendly with a neighbourly couple. The girls are very friendly with their same age son. Soon the relationship changes and this has a huge and continuous impact on their dynamics for the rest of their lives.
Nice, slow build up until the change then several twisty turns until at (as other reviewers have also commented on), 90% .... and YES, I did NOT see THAT coming!!
I paced myself on this book (lack of time actually) but once I hit that 90% mark, I couldn't stop. Very well written and descriptive of the drives and emotions of each of the main characters. I could understand the reasons each of them behaved and acted the way they did. I highly recommend this book.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the advanced copy.
Now I must go see the author's previous book and hope it's as good as this one.
After reading Holly Seddon’s first novel Try Not to Breathe, I eagerly awaited her new book Don't Close your Eyes and I was not disappointed.
A brilliant psychological thriller that gripped me from the first page. I could not put this book down.
I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks to Net Galley & Atlantic books for an ARC of this book in exchange for a review. What a super psychological thriller.
Twin sisters Sarah & Robin, as different as chalk and cheese in every possible way. Their family split apart by their parents, the girls separated for years, Callum their almost brother and Robin being closer than the twins.
Robin is living like a recluse, afraid to go outside, sleeps under the bed, watches her neighbors all day, religiously counts her ten thousand steps and pushes her body to exhaustion in her home gym. She's afraid to even answer the door and someone has been knocking for days, Robin is terrified.
Sarah has had her own problems to overcome and is trying to track her sister down, is she the only one trying to find Robin. Sarah want Robins help to get her daughter back.
This story has twist and turns and holds the readers attenion and anticipation right to the end. Will definitely be reading more by this author.
Holly Seddon. Another fabulous book. I did actually think that nothing could beat her last one and how foolish I was. This book has caused me to burn dinner and have to stay up until 2am to finish a work report. It also caused me to risk taking my kindle into the bath. In short, it was that great word - unputdownable! She described so well the thoughts and feelings around when a family splits and at times it was raw. There were some difficult subjects within this book, and they were handled sensitively and well. It was a story that made me think for a while afterwards - on how the events that occur in our childhood can shape us into the adults we become. A good book, for me, is one that needs me to take in the whole story and consider it after the book has finished. This was one of those. Excellent and highly recommended.
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for an advance electronic copy in exchange for an honest review.
This book had me completely engrossed. The characters all had traits which led to my involvement with the story.
At times, I had my heart in my mouth, and others felt immense sadness for the events which led to family breakdowns and loneliness. I loved the relationship between Robin and her step-brother Callum, but was heartbroken for Sarah when she was separated from her twin and moved to the other side of the world.
The subsequent outcome for all involved left me deeply moved. I highly recommend this book.
