I loved this! There are so many twists and turns you really never quite know what is happening. You start off with Min’s story – she’s hiding, again, from the strange man who murders her on every other birthday. From there you follow Min as she begins to uncover the conspiracies and secrets in Fire Lake, Idaho.

Oh, and there’s a giant asteroid on a probable collision course with Earth, and everyone’s waiting to see if humankind will live out the next six weeks or so.

There are also so many cool characters, despite the fact that you’re mostly limited to Min’s high school classmates. Noah is the neglected son of the richest man in town and has his own secrets to hide; Tack, Min’s best friend and fellow trailer-park resident, is just trying to get through another day at school and has literally no idea that Min dies every two years; and Ethan, the leader of the popular clique and a total jerk, among others.

I just really like how dark this book is. I haven’t read a YA like this for a while and I’m super excited for the sequel!

This is a gripping novel that will completely turn on its head and turn you with it. Expect the unexpected with this one... the story line is fast paced, intense and will never leave you feeling bored or stuck. Definitely a recommended book especially for those who love their ya books mixed with a bit of mystery, thriller aspects as well as a decent amount of action!

Gripping and intriguing, Nemesis sucked me in from the get go and didn't release me until the slap to the face reveal at the end. OH. BOY.

A fantastic addition to YA fiction, perfect for fans of The Maze Runner, with an extra gritty edge.

What the hell have I just read? I don't mean that in a bad way, but I am still shaking my head trying to work it all out.I don't even know what genre it was , was it dystopian, Sci fi, YA, Thriller I guess it was a mashup of all of those and probably some thing else I haven't thought of.This was the strangest book ever and I've read some strange books, it boggled my head for sure.I liked the main character Min, she was brave and fearless and stood up against injustice ,Noah was a bit wussy at first and I wanted him to grow a set, maybe a bit unfair and he was alright really, in that situation I'm not sure anyone would be very brave especially when they had no clue what was going on.I wonder where writers get their ideas from some times and I certainly did with this book, nothing is as it seems talk about smoke and mirrors and then some. This book will certainly keep you guessing and I'm not giving anything away .If you are looking for something different, pull up a chair you are in the right place, you do have to suspend disbelief but in all honesty if you read any book that steps outside the norm you will have to do that, and for me reading is escapism as well as enjoyment and you will get all that with this book.I thought it was very good and highly original.

A lovely story about the magic of Ireland - unfortunately it lacked something for me.
Nice characters and scenery, also some interesting myth and legend tied in.

I have read other books by Brendan Reichs and I am always hooked from the start and the mini-cliffhangers at the end of each chapter makes you want to read on.

The story from a different point-of-view was great. Not too sure about the ending through....

I LOVED this book! It was just... wow... I can't seem to get my brain together to write this review. I saw this book advertised about a year ago and I had read all of the hype that surrounded it. But when I looked on Amazon to buy it, it was £53 for the Audio CD and £35 for the hardcover. I was beat. But luckily, I waited and Nemesis was finally sent to me from the publisher so for that, I'll be forever grateful!

It’s been happening since Min was eight. Every two years, on her birthday, a strange man finds her and murders her in cold blood. But hours later, she wakes up in a clearing just outside her tiny Idaho hometown—alone, unhurt, and with all evidence of the horrifying crime erased.

Across the valley, Noah just wants to be like everyone else. But he’s not. Nightmares of murder and death plague him, though he does his best to hide the signs. But when the world around him begins to spiral toward panic and destruction, Noah discovers that people have been lying to him his whole life. Everything changes in an eye blink.

For the planet has a bigger problem. The Anvil, an enormous asteroid threatening all life on Earth, leaves little room for two troubled teens. Yet on her sixteenth birthday, as she cowers in her bedroom, hoping not to die for the fifth time, Min has had enough. She vows to discover what is happening in Fire Lake and uncovers a lifetime of lies: a vast conspiracy involving the sixty-four students of her sophomore class, one that may be even more sinister than the murders.

What I loved the most about this book was that it just kept you guessing the whole way through. If you liked a character, something would happen and suddenly you wouldn't like them and if you didn't like a character, something would happen for you to like them. It was pure craziness. I was forever being turned this way and that to guess what was going on and when the mystery slowly revealed itself with the big finale reveal at the end, I was left in shock. I.DID.NOT.SEE.THAT.COMING. Some character behaviour at the end of Nemesis as well left me shook and I wanted to scream and cry but also punch the character.

Before I even started reading this book, I thought it was an adult book but once I started reading it, I realised that it was like a bridge between young adult and adult. It pretty much had all of the themes that are in a young adult dystopian novel, but the way that the book was written came across as very adult. However, on Goodreads, the category that this book has been put in the most is actually young adult so I'm guessing that's what most of the audience classes it as.

"Why is that lunatic smiling?" Tack demanded, shaking his head. "He's talking about the apocalypse like it's a freaking One Direction concert. Weirdo."

- Brendan Reichs, Nemesis

I also thought that the characters were really well written. Although I really didn't like Tack. Even though he was Min's best friend, I just couldn't get past all of the sarcastic remarks and the snide comments that he made. He was just so irritating and I wanted to see him gone. Every time a sentence left his mouth, I just got automatically annoyed. And that went for Ethan as well... GOD! HE WAS SO ANNOYING! His whole friendship group was though to be fair. They knew they were popular and just thought that they owned the school because of it and thought that they could treat people how they wanted. No. Doesn't work like that. There was some fantastic character development though of both Min and Noah but I liked Min the best. She wasn't going to let what was happening to her control her life anymore and she risked her life over and over again to find out what was happening to her. She stuck-up for herself and for her friends, she was stubborn, she was loving, frightened but brave, she was everything that I look for in a YA female protagonist.

Overall, this is a fantastic sci-fi/thriller/dystopian/mystery novel. Yes, it is all of those things wrapped in one. But don't be put off! That doesn't mean that too much is happening at once and it's confusing; it isn't! It just has elements of all of those genres. Now that I've finished Nemesis, I cannot wait for Genesis (book two) to come out! I need it in my life, and it doesn't come out until March 2018 so looks like I'll be waiting a very long time...

Amazing for the first half, then the forced love story and the ending put me off majorly. It started out brilliantly and I was hooked, but then last bit really felt like every YA trope ever had been shoved in, and the narrative completely lost itself.

As soon as I read the prologue to Nemesis, I knew I was going to love it. Min has been dying every 2 years, on her birthday, murdered by the same man, but inexplicably wakes up in the same place afterwards with not a mark on her. Why? How? Good questions that are eventually answered in this fast paced YA offering from the co-author of the Virals series. Nemesis reminded me of the Gone series by Michael Grant (which is no bad thing!) with trapped teens, power struggles, apocalyptic tones and enough twists and turns to keep the reader on their toes. Min is a tough female character with a good moral compass who is contrasted with Noah, our other narrator who is far less self-assured and doubts his own abilities. Together they attempt to find answers and save each other in a world where both the reader and characters have little information. The ending is left wide open so I shall look forward to the next instalment.

Wow what a read. I read this over a day and found it hard to put down. I'm not the biggest fan of sci-fi books but the initial synopsis and the cover made me want to read Nemesis. I also hadn't read a book from Brendan (Author) before and was not disappointed at all.

The book is told mostly from Min's point of view, but later in the book Noah's too. The story centres around Min, a girl who is killed every even birthday since she was 6 years old by a stand man in a dark suit with sunglasses. The initial opening chapter is a really page turner making you feel compelled to read.

I don't want to give any spoilers with this book at all. Even telling you what I think of the characters is hard as it may give things away. I will say that Min is strong, she's a great heroine and I love Tack. Their friendship is impenetrable. They share a great connection although I got Mim hiding things from Tack in the beginning. At first I found Noah rather bland. I think his whole fear/anxiety thing drove me crazy. He was the polar opposite of Min in many ways. As the book progressed I liked him more.

Ethan deserves a mention, he's an arsehole. There nothing else needs to be said about him.

This book would make an amazing film. I'm not sure if it will ever be made into one, but I think it would be great taking this from the page onto a screen. As I mentioned earlier in this review. I'm not the biggest sci-fi fan but I literally couldn't stop reading and had to know what was going on in this book. Considering this is part one of Project Nemesis I feel many questions were answered towards the end and I can't wait to see what happens in the next book now - hope I'm not waiting long. This is a great YA read with a sci-fi (And maybe slightly dystopia feel to it). I can see it appealing to many and feel it would be find for 14 years and upwards. 4 stars.

What a read....

[BC]'Nemesis' by Brendan Reichs

Overall I enjoyed it. The general idea for a plot is original. All my predictions about the end failed. It's a mixture of 'Dark Matter' mysterious scientific feel with survival mode of 'Hunger Games' and... well one book more but i dont want to reveal too much.

I decided to give it:

[C]🌟🌟🌟 (3,5 stars)

I couldn't decide between 3-4 stars.

[C]GOODREADS SYNOPSIS:

He killed me. He killed me not. He killed me.

My non-spoilery thoughts:

Like I said I really enjoyed the story. We have this two POV of two main characters- Min and Noah- that are being killed every 2 years on their birthdays. At first the writing was a bit confusing like my mind couldn't grasp the idea of 'murder-resurrection' process. I am still unsure about it.

'Nemesis' is a first book in the 'Project Nemesis' series and it must be read as one. The reviews are divided. Some people loved it some people gave it less than 3 stars. It's a beginning of a big mystery. The killings are just a little part of the whole project. I am genuinely interested at the next sequel to the book. I would love to know what happens to the world and characters.

MIN is my favourite character, completely opposite to NOAH which I must admit annoyed me a great deal. Min and Noah are in the same class. Min lives in the trailer with her mum in poorer part of the city while Noah is a son of a rich businessman. Min is a strong female character that refuses to give up. She is confident and strong. Even though every 2 years she goes through the nightmare of being killed, she doesn't talk about it even with her good friend - Thomas vel Tick.

Noah is less confident, quiet boy that never show off his financial status. He annoyed me so much that at the times I couldn't stand his chapters.

As the story progresses we find out what is happening with Min and Noah. The bigger project is slowly revealed in the last chapters to leave us with even more questions unanswered.

'Nemesis' is a great YA science-fiction book that has a great potential in becoming even better with the following books.

Was an interesting read. Not sure how I completely feel about it yet. But for the 1st novel I've read by this author a strong start, that makes you think.

I'm really struggling to write a review of Nemesis. Firstly because I really can't decide what I think about it and secondly because it's really difficult to talk about Nemesis without spoilers.

So what did I like? The premise is great, every other year on her birthday Min (Melinda) is brutally murdered by a man in a suit wearing sunglasses. However Min doesn't stay dead but wakes up in the woods with no memory of how she got there and no evidence that the killing took place. Meanwhile, Noah (who coincidentally shares a birthday with Min) is having terrifying nightmares about violent murders and death.

After her latest death on her sixteenth birthday, Min decides she wants answers. Noah wants a cure. At the same time the residents of the small town in Idaho where she lives are all on edge waiting on an announcement about whether a planet killing asteroid is on a collision course with earth.

It's definitely unlike anything I've ever read before and I have to salute the author for creating a completely unique and slightly crazy (in a good way) story. At times I did think maybe there was a little bit too much thrown in but I loved the unpredictability of it and found it very difficult to stop reading as I tried to figure out what was going on.

The story is told from both Min and Noah's points of view and while Min was likable enough it was Noah I found the more interesting, complex and frustrating of the two. Despite coming from money and hanging with the popular crowd he suffers from anxiety and is riddled with self doubt. While it is frustrating watching him hesitate, let others make decisions for him and generally just panic and freeze up it's great to have a character behave the way I probably would if I'm being honest.

The secondary characters are a little bit cliched but they too don't always behave the way you expect them to. It's set in a high school so you do have the class clown, the bullying jocks, the rich popular mean girls and the various groups of outcasts. There are actually a heck of a lot of secondary characters and again I think that was one of my issues with this book. I am not great with remembering who's who and there were so many names that I gave up trying and focused on the most important ones.

The writing is ok. The plot does get a little complicated in places and I found myself going over certain bits more than once. What I thought really let it down however, and the reason I rated as I have is that I just didn't feel it. I was intrigued about what would happen next and the twists and surprises kept me hooked but I didn't connect with any of the characters so felt a little bit detached from the whole thing. There were a few scenes that should have triggered some kind of emotion (tears, laughter, shock) but the whole thing left me cold.

I would still recommend you give it a try but at the moment I'm undecided about whether I'll continue to read this series.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC. As always all views are my own.

I have now tried five times to make it through this book. Like most people, I was very intrigued by Nemesis after seeing all the starred reviews and reading the fascinating premise. There is still a part of me that very much wants to know what the hell was going on - hence why I attempted reading it so many times - but the story itself is so slow and boring. I didn't connect to, nor care about, any of the characters. It was an effort just to keep turning the pages.

I was given a free ecopy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity.

This book was a bit of a struggle but I hung on to find out what the hell was going on. I'm still wondering to some degree. It didn't all make sense even when explained.

Against a backdrop of an extinction level meteor storm we find two teenagers Melinda known as Min, and Noah. Each of them has been murdered 5 times on alternate birthdays, only to awaken later finding all traces of their murders wiped from the world. We see the story alternately through these two characters' eyes, remembering each murder and trying to find out why this is happening to them, and what this has to do with global events. The story becomes increasingly like a futuristic Lord of the Flies as the rest of their class becomes involved.

Having read the Virals series by Kathy/Brendan Riechs and been caught off guard by the sci-fi element I thought I was prepared for this book. Clearly that element was in here, but hovered under the surface for most of the story refusing to surface then exploded into the story right at the end. It made a frustratingly late entrance into the story. The reader barely has time to take it in the explanation before the book ends. A few hints earlier might have better prepared the ground. The book almost felt like an excessively long prologue. Still, I will be interested what book 2 brings.

This book is brilliant. The story goes at a fast pace the whole way through and I was unable to put it down. I really enjoy books that are different from the rest. This is a very well written book with an ending I did not see coming. I hope the second book is out soon as I really want to read it.

Nemesis pulled me in from the start, kept me engrossed for the entire book, and spat me out at the end for good measure. It was really, really great with lots of mystery and some clever ideas.

Min is murdered every alternate birthday by the same man. Which is a confusing concept to grasp right? How can she be murdered more than once? Well, that's all part of the fun of this book. You don't know! And you won't for most of the book, but discovering how it all works will keep you interested enough to want to find out. The author cleverly drops us little clues along the way, fleshing out the story as he goes.

There's also the small problem of the asteroid heading for Earth. No big deal right?

I really liked Min as a main character. She is fiery, has a lot of spirit and fights for what she believes in. Some of the chapters alternate between her and another boy named Noah, who also has an interesting story to tell (but no spoilers so you'll have to find out for yourself!). I also liked Tack, Min's fiery best friend, and actually I expected this to be an obvious romance plot or love triangle but thankfully it didn't work out the way I expected - there were lots of forks in the road which left me pleasantly surprised.

I did find that some of the dialogue between the characters was sometimes a little like when your dad tries to impersonate you - instead of sounding like a genuine teenager he comes across as a cheesy kid from Saved by the Bell or something! But this only happened now and then, and it didn't detract from the story, it was just slightly funny sometimes. The characters are actually pretty funny in themselves, especially Tack, so it works out in the end.

Overall a really brilliant book - I absolutely recommend it. I can't wait to see what happens next!

One fast and action packed novel thats got to be the start of a new series. If I hadn't known who the author was I think i would still have drawn parallels between Min ( Melinda J) and Tory Brennan from his Virals series. There's a common theme between the two, strong female lead, potential boys wanting her attention and pharmaceuticals, but thats where it all ends, references to the modern day dystopian trend ( hunger games anyone) and pop culture fit in well, without trying to be relevant.
Great book, five stars

I thoroughly enjoyed Nemesis - really fast read, thrilling and engaging, if with somewhat of a convoluted plot - but for me in a good way.

So poor Min gets murdered every other year on her birthday. Then POPS awake again, unharmed as if nothing has happened. An asteroid is hurtling towards the earth and strange weather is everywhere, the locals are acting strangely and well, that town is just plain weird! Then Brendan Reichs takes you on a journey towards certain understanding (although as this is part one its really just a set up for what promises to be a great part two) and as a reader you barely get to draw breath.

There are elements of everything I enjoy in a good YA tale here in Nemesis - the author kind of mashes things up, the romance is low level which frankly I prefer, too much gazing into each others eyes rather than dealing with the issues can get wearing - and Nemesis starts off as one thing and ends up as quite another.

I loved main protagonist Min who dealt with things reasonably logically, we have a few bad guys lurking around of various types, Min's friend who just can't keep his mouth shut and made me laugh, then Noah. Well ok Noah drove me crazy - good Lord man get a grip - his constant insular whining was perhaps the only thing that brought this down a notch, but you can't love everyone.

I liked the premise which was layered well - the reasons behind all the shenanigans well imagined again in a kind of mash up type way that works really well, I imagine that book 2 will have a different level to it and I'm looking forward to finding out.

Overall a high octane, high energy, rush of a read that I fully immersed into.
