The painting bits went right over my head, I’ve not one iota of a clue about painting, only scribbling!
That said, my other fault was that it was just far too descriptive for me to the point of annoying the hell out of me.
Not for me.
I read it, I completed it, there’s some really excellent twisty bits where the author drops clues, I did like that.

Omg talk about a roller coaster read wow this book kept me on the edge of my seat threw out I just couldn't put it down this writer keeps you hooked and once your hooked your not letting go I found this book thrilling the characters were fantastic and well thought out and the little clues all the way threw keep you guessing until the end this book stays with you long after you close the book this book is well worth the read I promise you wont be disappointed

Really enjoyable read. Good characters and a Good story. Well worth a read. Think others will enjoy.

Great story by T.A. Cottrell. Really thrilling read, great characters and an enjoyable story. Highly recommend to others!!

Alice is a painter who focusses on the details. When her husband doesn’t come home one night she knows that something is wrong. She begins to put the pieces together but does she really want to know?
‘What Alice Knows’ offers a familiar premise but unfortunately it didn’t have me hooked. I found it overly descriptive to hide the thin plot and the characters were generally unlikeable. I also found the constant name dropping of artists to be distracting. Overall I liked how the novel was more of a ‘what would you do if you knew?’ rather than a ‘whodunnit’ but generally the writing didn’t engage me as much as I would’ve hoped.

Unfortunately, I could not get into this book at all, I tried and tried to persevere, but in the end, I gave up. Hard going!

Lots of twists but I found the detail to art and painting was way over my head

This book really wasn't what I expected. It is a bit of a mystery and a good look at secrets and morals. Alice as the main character maintained my interest in the story, the author has created a character with a detailed personality: annoying at times, likeable at times. It does jump around a bit and the detail at times is a bit distracting, but as a debut novel it was enjoyable. It is definitely a good book for a book club the range of issues covered are ripe for debate.

A great debut novel from TA Cotterell. What Alice Knew is a well written book.

Lucy has built the perfect life. She is a successful portraitist, her husband Ed is an obstetrician and they have two young children. One night Ed doesn’t come home after consuming too much alcohol at a party. Their perfect world starts to unravel when the body of a young woman is found and her husband the last person to see the woman alive.
The resulting police and media attention prompts a friend from Lucy’s school days to get in contact and commission a portrait. During the sittings she asks questions which are piercing and intuitive and sow doubts into Lucy’s mind about the life she has so carefully created.
How far will Lucy go and what lies will be kept to keep that life? Can her marriage survive the pressure?
I felt the start was a little slow and maybe it wasnt going to be my type of read. That thought was quickly retracted as I found myself caught in the grip of a great read and couldnt wait to find out how it all ends.
Even though this was only a novel I was a little sceptical that you can ever know someone fully. At the same time there was slight regret not having experienced that feeling.
I thought the author did a great job of highlighting the difference in focus between a doctor and an artist. One aims for the best possible outcome and the other for perfection and the underlying truth of colour, composition and insight.
What a fantastic tale of sacrifice, revenge, truth, lies and repercussions. Dont miss it!

I enjoyed this book overall. I thought it was well written and kept my interest. I think it explored well the dilemma of love and morals.

I didn't dislike this book.. I just didn't really enjoy it.
It wasn't that I couldn't finish it or anything that bad, but it just didn't move me, I was glad when I'd finished it.

What Alice Knew kept me hooked from the first few pages. It was full of twists and turns that I did not expect. Have a read you won't be disappointed. 5 stars from me.

This was a great read until the final third and then for some reason it felt like someone else had taken over the writing of this thriller.
I'm not going to go into the storyline too much as the blurb doesn't go into much so I won't spoil it either, but the story starts off with Alice, happily married to Ed with two children until Ed goes missing for a night and Alice finds out he had got drunk and slept with a younger woman who is found dead a few days later.
The book had so much promise but the ending was flat and didn't fit with the storyline as throughout the book it was about finding the truth in all parts of Alice's life but the ending was just a lie.
I would like to thank netgalley, penguin random house and transworld digital for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is the story of Alice and Ed, told from Alice's point of view. They have a good marriage, two children and a nice house in a good part of Bristol. The early part of the plot explains some of their background and importantly their careers as portrait artist and obstetrician.
Out of the blue an event happens which will change their lives. Because the story is told by Alice, the second half of the book contains lots of introspective - Alice's anxieties are exposed and considered very well I thought. There are twists and turns throughout and just when you think you have the storyline sussed, something else is thrown in to take things in an unexpected direction.
The whole book is beautifully written. It's presented in a conversational way, making it a great, summer or holiday read.

Loved this book from the very start. You think you may just have worked out "who did it" and then another little twist changes your mind. I certainly ne read saw the ending coming even by the penultimate page!
Really good summer read.(well any time actually).

Excellent book. Great main characters and plot. I would recommend this book.
