This book just didn't flow that well and it wasn't that great of a read
Overall I enjoyed this book, although I did find the writing style a bit confusing at times, as I sometimes found it hard the following the conversations. However, I thought it was an interesting reflection on control and abuse from a young age.
Cecily (Joz)Joscelyne is, in simple terms, a sociopath. She's a famous interior designer but this woman definitely has issues. She has battled mental abuse for many years from her stepfather, a very rich man, a very manipulative man. She also has a close relationship (in her eyes) with her brother, Thomas.
When she and Thomas were children, he promised her to always be there for her. They used to imagine a small house on an island where they would live together forever. She is close to a mental breakdown, especially when her beloved brother marries another woman.
Meet Faith Collins, a woman separated from her husband who finds herself pregnant by him. She leaves the city, where everything reminds her of him and moves to a small rundown cottage on an island off the coast of Dorset.
Faith is an artist ... she copies masterpieces for a living. When Joz calls her and places an order for several pictures, Faith thinks her problems are getting somewhat smaller. But she is in for a huge surprise.
Joz wants her house and she's willing to do anything, anything at all, to get it.
This is an exceptional story of a woman's mental illness, an obsession borne of abuse from the time she was a small child. With no one watching over Joz's medical condition, she loses all touch with reality .... and bodies fall in her wake.
WARNING: There is one instance of animal abuse (dog), somewhat graphic. Feel free to skip those pages if you read this book.
Many thanks to the author / Endeavour Press / Negalley for the digital copy of this book. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
Cecile Josselyne is a woman that is larger than life. Loud voice, commanding attitude but under the influence of her step father she crumbles.
Faith is a painter who finds herself pregnant shortly after her husband Guy ups and leaves her. Trying to finally be free she buys a run down house on a little island. Alex her handsome next door neighbour is all too happy to lend a hand when work needs carrying out on her house.
Cecily and Faiths world's connect through a business deal and Faith finds herself being propositioned by Cecily. Thinking Cecily is joking Faith does not take her serously. But Cecily always gets what she wants.....how far will she go?
This book was a fascinating read. While it was not "fast paced" I was completely taken in by the story as it built and as the all charachters lives crossed. The narrative comes from all the main charachters point of view and builds to finish with one big beautifully woven ending.
This is a fantastic read. Well deserved five stars!
Nice thriller! When Faith and Joz's lives intersect, we are not quite sure what the outcome will be. Surely Joz's is a little un-hinged as we see her rather unhealthy attachment to her brother, Thomas and her fear of her step-father. But how does this have anything to do with recently-pregnant, Faith and her cheating husband, Guy? And how does new neighbor, Alex fit in? Lots of twists and turns and creepiness factors in as well. I read it long into the night!
Good story! Looking forward to reading more by this author. Highly recommend!
I received this advanced copy from Net Gallery in exchange for an honest review. This book is psychological thriller at its best. It was riveting. If it hadn't got so late I would have read it straight through from cover to cover.
DNF - the first scene in this book (wedding at the church) was so intriguing! But the second part of chapter one and chapter two were only slightly unnerving as these first pages and to be honest: a bit silly.
You belong to me is a disturbing read of manipulation, greed, incest and insanity, focusing on a well to do and influential family with deep dark secrets and a talented artist Faith who gets caught up in Joz's fantasy world when all she wanted to do, following the breakup of her marriage, is to escape her ex and London and be alone. I have to admit I found the first few chapters a bit muddled but I'm glad I stuck with it as the story soon came together to a satisfying conclusion.
This was a really good read. Alex never gave up even when no one believed what was happening to her. They thought she was making things up because of an incident in her past. There were many suspects to who was tormenting her. Every time I thought I had the answer a new twist would come about. Highly recommend this book!
I found you belong to me quite difficult to get into, the book cover is impressive but wasn't for me.
Faith, newly divorced and pregnant thinks she’s gotten lucky when she gets a commission to paint some portraits for “Joz”, a prominent interior designer. She doesn’t realize that her new employer has got sinister motives. The designer comes from the most twisted family tree since Whatever Happened to Baby Jane. She believes she can be happy, but only if she can have what Faith has. Creepy and intense
