Omg omg omg .......... this book was amazing I could not put it down I read every word on the edge of my seat I loved the story line, i loved the way the story just kept us guessing all the way threw I loved all the twists and turns and would defiantly recommend this book it was so believable and kept the reader engaged I love it
I really struggled to get into this book, and even when I did the story and characters did not grab me and hold my attention and I found it all a bit boring, so did not finish the book, sorry not for me.
I’m clearing and tidying my NetGalley shelves so I managed to get this book on Kindle and found it to be really good. I would definitely read other books by this author.
I did enjoy this - but it took me a long while to get into and I must admit to skim reading parts of it as it was just getting boring. It's a solid mystery/thriller, but I just felt it was far too stretched out.
Very slow to get going, with lots of characters, but the final third was excellent and kept me guessing to the end
A great thrilling, suspenseful and masterful read. Well done, can't wait to read more!

AN EXCELLENT WHODUNIT WHICH WILL KEEP YOU GUESSING TILL THE END
The novel is based upon a solid plot with hardly a police person featuring: no serious forensics nor police procedural. So Christobel Kent doesn't go for the "padding" so common amongst crime writers but rather concentrates on concocting a really good plot.
"The Day She Disappeared" concerns the disappearance of Beth, fellow barmaid and friend of Natalie. Her disappearance arouses no suspicions as she appeared to most Locals as not being the type to settle down. But Natalie, her close friend, has cause to believe that her friend has been harmed. A belief which grows ever more in strength as the novel progresses. In the absence of any serious police interest Natalie starts her own investigation. Her suspicions are shared by Victor.
The narrative of the novel is related through a trio of perspectives: Natalie, Victor and the Murderer. This provides an added chill factor especially when we realise that the Murderer is physically close to either Natalie or Victor. But the reader can't easily guess who the Murderer actually is.
As the story progresses, and the body of a murdered young man is discovered, gradually more villagers become convinced that Nat is right and that Beth may have met a grisly end. But not the police, who refuse to link the murder with Beth's disappearance.
The book falls into the "whodunit" genre with Nat and Victor trying to track a Killer. The novel manages to keep the reader guessing right till the climatic end. Christobel Kent throws in many a false trail to keep us in suspense.
Set with a pub firmly at its centre this novel explores the value of relationships. It also features domestic violence (Sophie, Rufus and bad Dad Richard, the solicitor) and stresses the importance of good healthy family relationships. The story is set in a village in the South East of England near the sea: the local community is insular and one in which few appear to be honest with one another.
My favourite character was Victor. Ninety years of age, we are provided with a realistic and wonderful insight into his mind and thoughts as he tries to protect himself in hospital from a killer determined to eliminate him.
The novel is nicely concluded with all loose ends gathered.
An excellent novel, from the author of previous bestsellers : "The Crooked House" and "The Loving Husband" to name but two. I would thoroughly recommend this novel.
I found this disappointing - the plot was theoretically good but it was executed fairly poorly. It was disjointed and took a while to warm up. Shame.
I found this really hard going for most of the way through this book. It took a long while to engage with the characters and most of the time I didn't really care very much about Beth and her disappearance!
The last quarter of the book was better. I really felt for Victor. I did begin to root for Natalie and want to know what had happened and why.
The author does capture the atmosphere of the place well. Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for letting me read and review this book.
A little slow going, but got into the tale about 1/3 of the way in. Loved the character of Natalie and how she was determined to find out what happened to her friend.
This was an excellent and gripping read. Nat's friend goes missing but no-one takes her concerns seriously and so she begins to investigate herself and finds that her friend had many secrets. There are quite a few sub-plots about the relationships between other characters in the novel. I found it well written and very descriptive of the locations so I could really imagine them as I read. There were several characters 'in the frame' and it wasn't until the very end of the book that the perpetrator was revealed - it kept me guessing until then.
The story focuses around Nat whose best friend Beth has disappeared. It takes the reader through the discovery that things are not as they seem, and that someone seems to be watching Nat. I didn't find it the easiest book to read and therefore it took me longer to read than most books. The conclusion just seemed to happen. I read The Loving Husband by Christobel Kent and thought that was a great book, I just don't think for me this book worked as well but for people who like thrillers then give it a go.
I really enjoyed the last Christobel Kent book that I read (The Crooked House) so approached this expecting a strong, atmospheric read. Unfortunately it never really took off for me.
The Day She Disappeared took me awhile to get my head around but I'm so glad I persevered as I loved it. It threw me completely at the end I did not have a clue. A well deserved 5 stars from me.
I enjoyed this book overall although I did find it a little slow to get into initially. There were quite a lot of characters to hold in mind but I thought the ending came as a surprise which is always a bonus in reading mystery books!
Personally I just couldn't really connect with the characters in the book and I ended up skim reading it as I didn't want to give up on it. I think it would be a good book for readers who have just started on this genre or for a light holiday read.
I enjoyed this book but it was slow paced for about the first twenty percent. I would recommend it as it had a good storyline.
Took a while to get to grips with characters. Kept me guessing but for some reason I didn't connect with book, it didn't keep me turning the page but stopping and coming back to it.
It took me a while to get to grips with this thriller but once I did I enjoyed it. I liked Natalie and was caught up in her search to find out what happened to her friend Beth. I read a lot of thrillers and this one kept me guessing until the end. I would like to thank NetGalley and Little, Brown Book Group for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review
Thank you to the publishers and Netgalley for my free e-copy in return for an honest review.
The remit for this story sounded promising and this author is new to me so I was looking forward to reading this.
Unfortunately I just couldn't engage in the story. Natalie's friend Beth has disappeared but no one seems to notice, or care. Then Natalie realises that someone is watching her. This is when the novel began to fall apart. SPOILER: Natalie comes home and her table is set for one. Yet Natalie lives on her own. For me the first thing she should have thought of was Change the Locks.
Its face paced an well written but it just didn't do it for me.
