A great book with some typically Julia Donaldson rhymes and featuring some cute animals and the adventures they get up. The book also includes some lovely illustrations by Lydia Monks,

This book was fantastic and so unique. When I got it I didn’t realise it was part of a series so I bought the other books for my son as well. He absolutely loved the story and the bright colours were perfect for him to look at.
It was a really unique story going to London and the poor queens crown was stolen by a monkey! My son wouldn’t stop making monkey noises for a while.
Overall the book was so enjoyable and beautifully written. Now I’ve got to buy the physical copy my son loved it that much!

Definitely 4 out of 5 stars.

My daughter absolutely loved this book, even more so as it was set in London which is where we were visiting during the holidays.
As usual the pages are bright, the pages are glittery and the ladybird said never a word!
Fabulous book for all children of all ages

This was a lovely story with beautiful pictures (although reading it in a black-and-white kindle kind of damped that part of the experience) and it makes a great bed-time story, but maybe it was too advanced for my baby since I seemed to enjoy it more than him. I would recommend this book for young readers and older toddlers, I will definitely read this again with my baby in the future, although I think we will try the printed version!

Another wonderful book in this series from Julia Donaldson. Her books are always a big hit in my household and this one is no different. I will definitely be buying this one for their bookshelf.

A fantastic addition to What The Ladybird Heard. My daughter loved the first story when she was little, she is now 9 and really enjoyed 'What the Ladybird Heard on Holiday', as did her little brother, 7. Julia Donaldson are timeless classics, that my children always enjoy.

Join the ladybird for another adventure.
Julia Donaldson gave herself a really hard act to follow with The Gruffalo - on Amazon UK this has over 1,000 reviews and an average of 4.9!! Both my grandchildren love it and their parents already know it off by heart. So it was with high expectations that I requested a copy of What the Ladybird Heard on Holiday from NetGalley.

I gave this a run-through and found the rhymes a bit awkward, so I borrowed it's predecessor, What the Ladybird Heard, from my grandson, to compare them. To my delight, I discovered that in the paper copy of the book, the ladybird has texture - so instead of saying 'where's the ladybird' on each page of my review copy, my son was directing, 'touch the ladybird', which is already so much more fun. But I also found that the rhyming in the original copy takes a few reads to get the hang of, to get the rhythm right.

What the Ladybird Heard on Holiday is intended for a slightly older audience (3 - 6 years) than The Gruffalo (2 - 5 years), so my grandchildren are still a little young for it, but they loved the animals and will get more involved with the book as they understand the story better.

I may be giving this one 4 stars, based on the slightly awkward rhyming, but it's still an excellent choice for all young children.

Lovely, colourful book that I acquired for my granddaughter. Perfect story and illustrations that hold a young child's attention.

We (me and my two girls aged 7 and 5) absolutely loved this book. I think it was even more inventive than the first one and the illustrations were amazing. We loved finding the ladybird on each page and revisiting the shady burglar characters. I liked that the corgis seemed to be based on the Queen's actual dogs too. Fab book and tempted to get it for presents.

This story is one that is told in rhyme
That’s a winner for me, every time!
It concerns the ladybird who
Flies to London and visits the zoo.
She hears two thieves who are plotters
Planning to steal Monkey Joe - the rotters!

To discover what happens you’ll need
This delightful story yourself to read.
With zoo animals and the Queen’s corgis, too,
The story is action packed through and through.
The illustrations are superb, colourful and bright
And overall I believe this story really is just right!

A fun and entertaining tale children will adore
Reading once then again and again and more.
Via NetGalley I was given a copy of this book
I’m so glad I gave it a careful look!
I highly recommend it to anyone who
Knows children who’ll love it, too!

Familiar and fun story, another Donaldson winner

It feels very familiar - the rhythm, structure, plot and characters, but is just as fun to read aloud as Donaldson's other Ladybird titles. Your little ones don't need to know the other two books to enjoy this, but it would help as both the Ladybird and the two burglars were in previous titles.

Before, the silent and watchful Ladybird has prevented Hefty Hugh and Lanky Lou from stealing, and here, when on holiday to London, she sees them again and has to prevent a nefarious plot to steal a London Zoo monkey to use in a robbery on Buckingham Palace.

The tricks she plays are bound to be enjoyed by small children, and as before, they involve teaming up with other animals (here, zoo animals). The Ladybird is clearly a clever creature, but one who does not shout about her accomplishments.

Her trip to London is a great idea - we have some great Lydia Monks spread of the city and its famous landmarks, and the Queen's corgis prove cheeky new featured characters.

The familiarity is warming and reassuring, it is an easy read for a grown up though not too hard for a newly independent reader to manage either.

The book is dedicated to the Queen's corgis, which I think is a lovely idea - and a great talking point for children and parents.

Will be a great choice for teachers talking about Donaldson's books, as well as the topic of London, and suitable for toddlers and above for bedtime reading at home.

A wonderfully colourful book for a gift and for children to delight in.

With thanks to Netgalley for the advance e-copy.

Enchanting storybook for toddlers. Beautifully illustrated. Written in rhyming couplets which are easy to remember and repeat. Brilliant!

A beautiful and colourful book. I adored the rhyming and love that it is set in London. As a mum and teacher living in London I can imagine it being a hit with my baby boy as well as the children at school. It was very funny and I know children will want to read it again and again. The book names animals as well as specific breeds of dogs such as lurcher and labarador which is great for teaching children about different animals. It also shows places in London and I can imagine parents having fun taking the book along with them when they are out and about in the city.

My three year old grandson is already an avid fan of Julia Donaldson’s books and will no doubt love this one too. Written in the author’s trademark rhyming couplets style, enhanced by delightful illustrations from Lydia Monks, we encounter the ladybird on holiday in London. While she is there, she hears Lanky Len and Hefty Hugh cooking up a dastardly plan to capture a monkey from the zoo as a means of stealing from the Queen.

Their scheme is foiled by the ladybird’s careful listening and hatching her own crafty plan with the animals at the zoo. As the action unfolds, we see how they collaborate to rescue their monkey friend. Along the way, subtle teaching helps inform a listening child about animal activities, sounds and species, and general moral principles relating to behaviour, friendship and helping others in need. A lovely, pacey book for preschoolers.

Julia Donaldson was not an author I was familiar with, but a quick conversation with the mothers and children I know quickly set me right and brought me in to the beautiful, colourful and adventured filled world she has created for little readers and their families.
On my first journey in to Donaldson's I thought it best to bring a friend, my guide was a friend's daughter who is well versed Donaldson's work. She adored this book and I must confess, so did I. The story is fantastic and would have me asking for one more story before bedtime.
The writing and wording is well mixed to encourage learner readers to stretch their vocabulary while still enjoying the story and the learning experience. Each page has so much more than the story, with the art work and characters there is plenty for you and your little one to enjoy.
Grab this book, and all Donaldson's other works, for adventure filled storytime and you'll be happy to read just one more everytime.

My five year old grandson loves the Ladybird series and this new addition is no exception. As usual the book is beautifully illustrated by the talented Lydia Monks and would be an excellent addition to an already impressive collection.
