This was a fun title that captured the essence of Texas critters. I will be adding it into my homeschooling curriculum as we study the Lone Star State.
If you live in or near Texas, have family from there or are just plain curious about the places to visit there, this book is a great way of introducing little ones to that environment. Based on the task of searching for monsters this book encourages readers to use their observational skills to look for and find the "cute" monsters. I say "cute" as to prevent my little one from getting the idea that monsters are everywhere I made them out to be cute, monsters in the cupboard and under the bed are enough for us thanks. Some of the monsters were easier to find than others which allow for a longevity for the title that is not always found in this type of search and find book. All in all, a worthwhile book to get those little ones curious about the world around them.
Have you ever been to Texas? I haven't. While I searched for the monsters in the book, I saw several different places to visit. Some of the monsters are easy to find, others aren't. I got to look for monsters at some of the sights I visited in the book. They are historic Route 66, the Alamo, canyons of Palo Duro Canyon state Park and more. Some of the sites were especially beautiful. I was pleased to discover the sites that are in Texas. I know I want to visit Texas after reading this book. Of course, I will be looking out for monsters when I do visit!
Our thoughts: Monsters are everywhere, in these books!! So now while you might be agreeing to the stories your little one is making about monsters under the bed or in the closet, you can also point out the monsters in these books and show them how cute they are. So, not really anything to fear but cute, friendly monsters that you can play hide and seek with. And in the process of finding the monsters that hide in each page (very cleverly, I should say), discover sights to see in each city and a cool fact or two as well on each page. All in all, a fun, informative read that is play as well. This book is geared towards the younger readers (up to eight years old, but I have to say, I and my kids had fun looking for the monsters too, and they are 11 and 14 years old now:)) and will be perfect for teaching them about different cities (maybe before a visit to that city).
I have read a few of the books in this series already and these are the next ones (and am sure, more coming in the future that I will look forward to, even though I have kids who are 11+).

Texas Monsters is a search and find book about the lone star state. In this book are a lot of places you can check out in Texas like Route 66, Palo Duro Canyon, The Alamo, the Capitol among others. There are a lot of cool illustrations throughout the book and throughout you can look for all the cute hidden monsters on all of the pages! This is a really fun way to teach kids about new places in a fun and interesting way!
I received an e-copy of this book in order to write this review. I was not otherwise compensated.
Reminds me of the Highlights magazines I used to read when I was a kid. The seek and find was always my favorite, and this is like an upgraded version of that. I think kids will love it!
What a fun way to learn about Texas! The very idea that there could be monsters all around was fun and I think kids would love this. I did!
The monsters are spotted in some of the most well known places and some lesser ones too so there's a nice balance and it's a fun guide to the city and culture in question.
I love this book. It has real places in Texas. It also tells alittle bit about the area so not only are the children having fun finding the monsters but they also are learning.
3.5 stars
This is another cute installment in the Monsters educational seek and find series. As young readers flip through the pages focusing on historical landmarks and sites in Texas they have the opportunity to learn and have fun. Hidden within each individual location illustration are several adorable little monsters that readers must try to locate. Some are easier to spot than others, meaning it might be more ideal if the author had indicated how many monsters to look for per scene. Additionally, I think a few more historical facts about the locations mentioned might have been nice, but all in all this is a nice book for kids. Would be great to have on hand for your next family road trip to Texas!
Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the review copy.
This is the fifth City Monsters book that I have reviewed, and believe me, my son and I are learning a lot about the different cities and states of America.
This time we visited Texas, where we have to locate all the hidden monsters. Over the 22 pages there are lots of monsters to find. Some are easy to spot, whilst others take some searching.
As well as spotting monsters, there are also lots of places within Texas to discover, and beautiful images to admire too.
The monsters hide in various locations including:-
Route 66
Palo Duro Canyon
Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden
Space Center Houston
Galveston Island Pleasure Pier
And many more.
I love these books and so does my son. Not only are they great fun, but they are educational too.
A fun, interactive book for children that gives a brief overview of some historic and interesting places in Texas. The illustrations are fun, the main cities covered, and the interactivity great. It is a good book for any child that likes finding books!
When I saw my city's own Stockyards Station on the cover of Anne Paradis's Texas Monsters, I had to check it out. As it happens, I have been to all the stops on her monster's tour of Texas! Paradis takes kids on a cartoonish tour of familiar Texas locales. Sanaa Legdani's illustrations include cute monsters hiding around each scene. As the kids get a taste of Texas landmarks, they will enjoy finding the monsters in their hiding spots. (No scary monsters here. These are more like the cuddly monsters of Monsters, Inc.)
Texas Monsters is a fun, colorful seek-and-find book, perfect for Texans, lovers of Texas, and people who wish they lived in Texas. (That covers everyone, right?) Find the monsters and plan your next road trip!

Texas Monsters is such a cute book! I've lived in Texas my entire life and was really impressed with the descriptions, etc. People from Texas don't realize how far apart everything is. We measure distance in time (how far? About 3 hours) Or the fact that there are deserts, mountains, forests, seaside, buttes and any manner of geographical places here.
I can't wait to purchase this for my nephew.
I hope there will be one of these for each state. The kids will get so intrigued with finding the monsters that they will get the pictures of the places in their heads without realizing it. These books would be good ways to start state studies or for a geography center.
Texas Monsters: A Search-and-Find Book is written by Anne Paradis and illustrated by Sanaa Legdani. This book is part of the City Monsters series, which "takes you on a sightseeing adventure. Find the hidden little monsters as you discover big-city landmarks."
As an interactive story, children will learn about the state of Texas, as they search and find adorable monsters throughout the colorful illustrations of various landmarks, such as the Alamo, Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District, Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, Big Bend National Park,
According to the back cover, "The Lone Star State is such a great place to live that even little monsters have taken up residence there.... Have fun spotting them all as you explore some of Texas' most iconic landmarks and sights!"
This easy-to-read board book is a charming children's travel book, which is geared towards younger readers, particularly ages three to eight.
Note: I received this book from NetGalley, which is a program designed for bloggers to write book reviews in exchange for books, yet the opinions expressed in this review are my own.
We've enjoyed the search and find "City Monsters" series. They are fun for the pre-K set, especially before traveling to the city/area highlighted in the books. Whether it was because we viewed the eVersion on a small screen or the illustration style of the monsters themselves was different (not as much contrast/similar hues sometimes in the art), we found this one a little more difficult to navigate. The attractions described may be unfamiliar to many in the country outside of the Lone Star State. Nevertheless, young readers will find the pictures engaging and the monsters still fun to locate.
This series is fun and enjoyable. I would recommend to others.
This book looks like a cute one. We Texans are pretty proud of our state and I know my 8 year old twin boys would definitely love to read this cute little book. Anything at all about Texas would intrigue them, but the cute monsters would seal the deal. Thanks for the sneak peek!
I read this book with my 8 year old daughter to see what her opinion would be. She is a little beyond the look and find stage but she still absolutely loved this book as well as the rest in the series. She thought that it is a great book for little kids because it was a fun book that taught you stuff too. I would totally buy this book for my nephews and nieces. We had fun pointing out the monsters and we also learned some new facts along the way.
A quick jaunt through a very large state. This kids travel book highlights the best places to visit in text. But beware, monsters are everywhere.
