The shock by Mark Raabe.
When Laura Bjely goes missing during a storm on the Cote d'Azur, the only thing her friend Jan finds is her smartphone - with a disturbing film in the memory.
An ok read. Slow moving. 3*.

This was a bit slow for a thriller and ended up being predictable. Not really my cup of tea, but I think some people would like it more.

This was an excellent tale with a great storyline. The characters were likable and this was a page turner. I would recommend this book.

slow build up that is worth the work it takes to make it until the end!
If you don't mind the slower paced but overall well done mystery, this is worth a read!

Thanks to netgalley for the ARC of this book. A slow and steady thriller that I enjoyed, and would like to read more of the author in future. Well done.

I hate this when this happens. I really wanted to love this book, I think its only the 2nd book this year that has a low rating from me, I don't like it, its not something I take pleasure in at all.

The story was fairly slow moving but I stuck through it, I read it until the end even though I had to read other books in between. Its taken me an entire month to get through.

The plot was a good plot, but it lost its directive in many places which frustrated the hell out of me and got me tearing my hair out to find some positives within this story.

I thank the publishers Bonnier Zaffre and the author who I will give another try in the future.

The book cover was fab.

The blurb for this book calls it "a disturbing thriller". While it does have a couple of unusual plot twists, the disturbing thing for me was that I considered putting it down several times. It also took me longer to read. I kept looking at it and kept finding other things to do.

I really didn't like any of the characters. And the very first part was just so far out there that I didn't get any hook with this book until the very end.

The book was just okay for me.

Thanks to Bonner Zaffre and Net Galley for providing me with a free e-galley in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

Terribly boring and a silly storyline in my opinion. Not the right book for me.

I struggled with this story I think something was lost in translation an ok read but at times I found this a hard book to keep reading as it seemed drawn out

Oddly, I really liked the very beginning of this book, but then, as it progressed, I lost interest and never got back into the story even though I finished it. I really wanted to like it, but I just couldn't. I thought the story fell flat after the first couple of chapters and it was almost like reading a different book.

I'm sure there are people that will enjoy this and I encourage everyone to read it and make their own decision about it, but it just wasn't something that I could enjoy.

This review is based on a complimentary copy from the publisher, provided through Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

A woman is abducted in France. Her friend finds her cell phone and with this information he follows her back home to Berlin. There the chase for the abducter ,who turns out to be a serial killer, starts in earnest. The storyline is good,up to a point, and then it starts to wander. But the writing, the style is lacking something. Perhaps it is due to the translation(it was originally published in German ).All in all, after a good start,a bit of a disappointment .

This was just an okay read. I can't say that I was impressed with this book. There is a twist at the end that helps it limp across the three star line. Other than that, just an average read.

The Shock Marc Raabe

Set mainly in Berlin this psychological thriller is a typical example of the past catching up with the future, intertwined with hidden family secrets having horrific consequences.

The story starts with Jan Floss spending a few days away with his sister Katy; his long lost school crush Laura; and the handsome Greg.

When Laura goes missing after an argument Jan finds her mobile phone with a disturbing video on it.

For some reason Raabe determines that his main protagonist, Jan, will not involve the Police, but will attempt to find Laura himself.

It is evident that Laura has been kidnapped by a serial killer and as the bodies start to pile up, and attempts are made on Jan’s life, he still does not involve the police.

And that is the problem with this book it is not very realistic. At every point in the story the characters make decisions which no sane person would make.

The end of the story is very good with plenty of twists and shocks; but it feels as though this was where the story started for the author, and that the first 75% of the book was just a vehicle to get to the end scenario.

Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. I had such high hopes for this novel and whilst it was ok it wasn't brilliant.

This is a dark thriller. When Laura goes missing her friend Jan tries to find out what happened to her and the reason for her disappearance. This is a fast paced thriller which is a bit gruesome in places.

This was an interesting thriller but not as good as I expected. The story starts as a stalker, but nothing is as it appears. I would be interested to read others by this author.

I'm definitely in some sort of reading slump. This was another one that didn't suit me. It started off really well, and I was hooked, but then it all went a bit sideways. There is a decent plot, and a few interesting twists but it just didn't keep my attention. That being said, I would definitely read more from this author.
