Do you ever think to yourself, ‘I have nothing to read!’? (Wailed in your most dramatic whiny voice!) Well, this was yours truly on Friday night…

Trust me, the irony is not lost on me either *snorts*. Coz as we all know, without a shadow of a doubt, that I NEVER *repeat: never* have nothing to read.

I was just in a mood *rolls eyes* as it had been a week. What was a gal to do? I went trope diving (it’s a thing – my thing!), of course! Now *taps chin*, what was going to tickle my fancy?

It was Single Dad romance FTW!

After a quick (not!) scroll through my books I found this one languishing on my TBR pile. For shame! *hangs head*

Abi and Damien’s story was just what the doctor ordered *snorts*. Oops! Did I neglect to mention that along with being a single dad romance it’s also from the Mills & Boon Medical line? My bad… *shrugs*

It still amazes me sometimes how much can be packed into a M&B story. It may be a quick read but it’s a story to sink your teeth into. I love strong female characters like Abi. She is a hero and survivor regardless of how she perceives herself to be.

I’ve since discovered that FFTSD is Book 2 in a series of interconnected standalones called The Hollywood Hills Clinic by an array of M&B authors. Yup *nods*, the rest are all now on my TBR. Whaaa? I have questions about other characters – it’s not my fault!

So, tell me… are you willing to take a chance on love?

This was a pleasant enough romance, I could have done with a little more story and a little more chemistry but all in all it was entertaining enough. I found the whole thing very sweet but not very deep. I did really love that the main female character was a war vet as that is something I am used to seeing with male characters. It was great to see a female solder represented here.

Falling for the single Dad is a medical romance. Abi is an army medic with PTSD and many background issues which combine to make her an interesting character. Damien, the single dad is also well written. The introduction of Abbi's assistance dog was interesting and informative, This was a beautiful story of two people overcoming their past demons and falling in love. An enjoyable read.

What a pleasant surprise! At the start of the book when there was mention of a medical facility in LA where the rich and famous went for their cosmetic procedures, I immediately expected ultra-rich characters who wouldn’t be rooted in the real world, and yet, what I found was a nicely written, simple love story of Abi, the PTSD suffering army medic, and Damien, the single dad, who had only ended up working in LA because his aspiring actress ex-wife had insisted they move there. Whilst this is part of a series, I haven’t read any other instalments, and, whilst characters are mentioned who I assume feature in the other volumes, it did not impact on my enjoyment of the book, and it worked perfectly well as a stand alone story.
Both main characters were well-written, relatable, and seemed to have real issues to contend with. The writing of Abi’s army experiences and her PTSD was done with sensitivity, and it was good to learn about the use of assistance dogs, and the issues Abi continued to suffer with in light of her experiences. Damien came across as an all round nice guy, and their coming together as a couple seemed a natural progression that took place over the course of the book as the story progressed.
This is the first book I have read by the author, and I will be looking at reading her other books in the future.
Thanks to M&B/Net Galley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
