3 stars.
I liked the idea of how you can read one story a day instead of the whole book at once. Each day is its own little story. Its a good christmas book and I can see why it would be great for kids. Like most of us, Santa also has all sorts of jobs to do leading up to Christmas Day. In fact, he has 24 of them. They are a joyful read and the illustrations are really vibrant.
'Santa's Countdown to Christmas: 24 Days of Stories' by Kim Thompson with illustrations by Élodie Duhameau is a series of 24 short stories for each day in December.
Throughout the course of the month, we see Santa and his team getting ready for the big night. Elves are busy, Santa is working out, and the reindeer and sleigh are also getting ready. Santa has to review the naughty and nice list, and there is one special present he needs to find. Will it all get done in time?
The stories all span a couple pages, with most of the space being taken by illustration. The date is given on each page, so it could be a quick bedtime story leading up to Christmas. I loved the illustrations which have lots of little details. I also loved Santa's alliterative exclamations like 'jumpin' gingerbread!' and 'leapin' lollipops!' There are tons of those and they made me smile. This would be a fun pre-Christmas read.
I received a review copy of this ebook from CrackBoom! Books, Chouette Publishing, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.
I enjoyed this book but I wasn't a huge fan of Santa giving pets to children for Christmas... and I have marked the book down from 5 stars to 4 stars for this, after all the advertising that a dog is for life not for Christmas I didn't really expect to see them being given as presents!! Other than that the images were lovely and the story was very easy to follow and I thought that countdown idea was great as you could read a page each evening - 4 stars from me
I love reading books with my kids in December all the way through until Christmas night. This is the perfect book to read to lead ones, to help build excitement, and to spend precious quality time together. The book has adorable illustrations and the daily stories are short enough that they will hold the attention of nearly any kid. Santa's Countdown to Christmas would be great combined with an advent calendar to make the overall countdown to Christmas super exciting!
An Advent calendar type book that day by day tells a story of how Santa is preparing for Christmas Eve. The cute picture scenes and the way Santa interacts with his elves are entertaining for the little ones.
This book will teach you that even Santa has to plan ahead in order to have a successful event....Christmas Eve presents for Christmas Day . Children will be delighted to see how much work goes into this special presentation as we countdown to Christmas Eve. Bright, colorful illustrations add to the whimsy. A winner.
I haven't read all of this book so far, I'm reading it with my 2 year old (yeah, I know, it's not December yet) and he doesn't sit still for long!
Seems a really nice book that works as an advent calendar with a story to be read each day in the run up towards Christmas. Ideal if you don't want your child having chocolate or whatever. I do think it would work better as a physical book however. Especially for younger children, I know mine seems a little confused over the page turning. Or lack of it. He loves books but hasn't quite grasped reading on a Kindle yet.
I think the kiddos will enjoy reading a day by day account of what's going on the North pole before the BIG DAY! From reading children's letters to baking cookies and making toys, Santa, Mrs. Claus and the elves are very busy. Illustrations are nice, with lots to inspire imaginations!
It is a Christmas tale about what Santa does from December 1st to the 24th. It's almost like a Christmas Advents Calendar but in book format. Each Day Santa has a new story or thing to handle in the story. You also get some pretty pictures of Santa and his friends throughout the book. Its overall gives you a great Christmas vibe and beauty. I would recommend this for anyone who wants get Christmas books for the little ones. Now onto my final thoughts on this book.
This book illustrations are amazing, they alone are 5 out of 5 stars. Then the story is adorable and totally 5 out of 5 stars. They illustrations bring such life to the words of the story. Santa’s Stories or problems are so cute and simple but would appeal to any little kid. It's just a great book to read all of December. You can take the book down off the shelf each day and read that days section to the kids. I can’t wait to get this book myself for the kids even though I have read the Arc because my kids will enjoy the book each year. I believe all kids would enjoy this each year, especially the little ones. It's a great Christmas fun filled buy like the ELF on the shelf.
This story is a children's book about counting down to Christmas, starting from December 1st. I find this book to be a cute read for children at bedtime who are extremely excited to be counting down for Santa. At times I find this story to be a bit wordy. It could have been simplified. Because of how wordy it is, I find it to be good for around ages 6 and up. Anyone younger may get bored.
I received this ARC from Netgalley for an honest review.
A cute little book that is perfect for those kids who like to countdown the days to Christmas. With a short story for each day, kids will look forward to a story for each day.
This is a Christmas book to enjoy every day for the month of December.
As a family of "christmasaholics" if that's even a word, we loved this book, a story a day for advent sets the scene & excitement for Christmas. The book is enjoyable, funny & entertaining. It is beautifully illustrated to keep even the smallest of children entertained. I will be recommending it to primary teachers to use as there story book for December.
This book had cute illustrations. It's a fun little story that goes through the days counting to Christmas as Santa's point of view. I didn't think there was enough to read per day but the idea is cute. I also laughed at Santa's expressions such as "Sufferin' snowflakes!" or "Gallopin' gumdrops."
Thanks to NetGalley for providing this ebook for review. What a wonderful addition to your Christmas traditions with children. The content and illustrations are interesting, colorful, happy and humorous. Highly recommend.
The idea of Advent is to prepare for Christmas. This is exactly what Santa does in this book. Each day he has another task that either he, Mrs. Santa or the elves must do to get ready for the big night of delivering the presents. The idea is to read a short story (very short) of something that helps prepare them for Christmas. I would read this and then have my grandson open the day on the Advent Calendar. The illustrations are cute and will delight the little ones. A great addition to a family holiday library. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via Netgalley.
This book is a delight! It is full of bright, colorful illustrations that capture the humor of the story and the spirit of Christmas. The book works like an advent calendar with an activity or job to be done each day in December for Santa to be prepared to deliver presents. This would be a great title to add to the home collection for the holidays.
This is such a fun idea and different twist on the Advent idea leading up to Christmas day. Every day adults and kids can read a story together to count down the days until Santa comes. The stories talk about how the Claus’ and Elves prepare for Christmas which can also provide a chance for people to talk about what preparations they make in their own family.
The only negative I see is children have been ‘trained’ to flip pages to read the stories so having them focus and understand you have to stick to just one page might cause a little confusion. If you have multiple kids and let them take turns reading a story each day that might make it a bit easier but it’s one of those try it out and see what happens things.
This illustrations are beautiful, festive, colorful and absolutely perfect accompaniments to the stories.
Lovely book with really nice pictures. A great way to build up the excitement before Christmas. I must say I think this is a book that must be read as a physical book to see it in its full glory!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an arc copy in exchange for an honest review.
I love the idea of this book, 24 stories to read, one day at a time, leading up to Christmas. The stories tell of how Mr & Mrs Claus and the elves prepare for Christmas. The illustrations are delightful, but I foresee the problem with this book being the need to stick to one page per day. Reading books with children, half the fun for them is turning the page and looking at the next picture, so trying to get a child to focus on one page and that be it for the day, may be a little tricky! It's a lovely idea though.
Some bits of text are easier to read than others, i.e. black text on white background, whereas black text on blue is harder to read. A minor detail, but one that makes a difference.
Overall though, this is a great idea for the run-up to Christmas.
