Having read none of the other books in the series I was initially worried that I would struggle to pick up the thread with this being the 8th book in this series but there was enough back story to be able to read this as a standalone.
But saying that i will defiantly be reading the rest of the books in the series, in order this time!!
It is certainly a unique plot, with enough twists and turns to keep you hooked.
I will be recommending this book, and the other books in the series to my book club :-)
This book was really different in that the 'missing person' was not missing physically, but was missing in that he had amnesia and had no idea who he was. A story which kept you intrigued throughout.
This is the 8th book in a series of books, so I feel I now need to go and read parts 1-7. That said, I picked up quite of a lot of information about David Raker, one of the main characters of this book and one whom I suspect is so in the other 7. Raker is a specialist in missing persons and he is contacted by a man, Richard Kite, with amnesia to try to find out who he is. Raker sets out on his journey to find out where Kite is from and why does nobody know him? Then there is a dead body of a woman found on a railway line in London, two years before, how does she connect to Kite, or does she have any connection whatsoever. The reader is taken along on this journey, plot twists come and go, some expected and some not.
I enjoyed this book a lot.
I received a free e-arc from the publisher via Netgalley.
This is such an interesting thriller! There are so many twists and turns in the plot that it’s so hard to guess what’s going to happen until the main character starts putting things together himself.
It doesn’t even matter that this is part of a series - there’s not any backstory that you need to understand, no references to previous cases or unresolved plot lines from previous novels, so you can jump right in and enjoy the story.
I really liked the way the author shaped this story, and I will definitely be looking for the other books in this series.
The twists and turns in this book make you not want to put it down and keeps you wanting more. I would strongly recommend.
I found the story too bland and prosaic, and it did not sustain my interest beyond a couple of chapters.
The title and idea behind trying to find out someone's forgotten past was interesting. However, the book turns out to be just another crime Story. It's ok, if that is what you want, but I think they missed an apportunity here.
This book is brilliant, gradually building up into the crescendo. The nearer I got to the end of the book the more I wanted to keep reading it. I didn'the want to put it down but I also didn'the want it to end. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
This is the first time I have read anything by Tim Weaver and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was well written, with a good plot and perfectly paced. David Raker is a character I need to get to know better which is why I went straight to the library and borrowed the first two books in the series!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the review copy
i enjoyed this book this is my first time ive read one of tim weavers raker series i didnt realise it was number 8 not that it matters what order you read them in im definatly going to look into his other books
I enjoyed most of this book - didn't realise it was part of a series and actually, it stood on its own quite well. A point did come though where there I felt that there were too many characters and the events seemed too coincidental.
I am missing By Tim weaver.
When a young man wakes up bruised and beaten, with no memory of who he is or where he came from, the press immediately dub him 'The Lost Man'. Naming himself Richard Kite, he spends the next ten months desperately trying to find out who he is. But despite media appeals and the efforts of the police, no one knows him. Richard's last hope may be private investigator David Raker - a seasoned locator of missing people. But Raker has more questions than answers. Who is Richard Kite? Why does no one know him? And what links him to the body of a woman found beside a London railway line two years ago? Could Richard be responsible for her death - or is he next?
A good read with good characters. Little slow in places. 4*. Netgalley and penguin UK- Michael Joseph.
While I enjoyed this, I thought the pace flagged around the middle. The setting was intriguing but took a while to get there. Not my favourite in the series, but a good read.
Sorry i didnt get chance to read this title. Was archived before i got to read it. Hopefully will be able to read it another time.
I am Missing by Tim Weaver
This book is about a man who, after a possible beating, is found on a beach having Lost his memory.
After trying to find out who he is he turns to David Raker, a private detective , who specialises in missing people. Although in this case the person is not missing but his memory of that person.
This novel is number 8 in a series. I had not read anything by this author so wondered if it would be a problem. It wasn't. A great read, great plot, brilliant atmosphere and tremendous descriptive writing, felt you were there in many parts. Kept me hooked throughout. Will read more in this series.
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review
This book started off very promising as a man with no memory of who he is or what his life consists of approaches a private investigator to uncover his truth. The book has many dimensions and characters and travels from Southampton to the Empress Islands. A good read but seemed a bit far fetched at times. Nonetheless, definitely worth a read.
This is my first Tim Weaver read but even though this is the 8th in the David Raker series it worked well as a standalone.
The premise was fascinating and really drew me in, this, a missing person case was commissioned by the actual missing person. Richard Kite is suffering from Dissociative Amnesia and remembers nothing of his life prior to being washed up in Southampton battered and bruised and hires David Raker to match all the missing pieces. With only the memory of a beach and a television programme from his childhood Raker sets about doing the do and uncovers layer upon layer of intrigue.
A thorough and well executed thriller with much to applaud, it was, however in my opinion longer than necessary. Thanks to Netgalley for providing an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
This was a missing person mystery with a real twist.
At times it was very coincidental but overall it was a good read.
I am missing is book number 8 in the David Raker series. I haven't read anything before by Tim weaver but I will be looking out for him in the future and look out for any of the previous books in this series. As this is book number 8 I felt you could read this as a standalone and not read the others first which was good.
The story is set over a few weeks so was easy to follow with no flipping back and forth between different years. David Raker is a private detective specialising in finding missing people. He has been called to help Richard, although Richard is there in person after being found washed up on a beach and wounds to the left side of his body and face indicating a fall or a fight he has no memory. When asked who he was Richard just came to him so he feels strongly that was his name. Apart from his supposed name Richards only other memories are a beach and the opening credits to a tv programme also that he is a good swimmer. Richard was a sad character and was described well so I actually felt for him at the beginning.
The story I did find moved onto other people connected to Richard and although I did feel the information the other characters gave was relevant to the story it did make my head blow a bit from too many characters to get my head round. I did like how all the characters stories linked nicely together and for that it would have been a five star but I did get bogged down slightly from all the information I had to take in. There were a lot of twists along the way but I did feel that David really wanted to be jack reacher or James Bond as he got himself out of a lot of scrapes that at times were unbelievable!
I would like to thank netgalley and penguin uk - Michael Joseph for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.
Fan- flipping-tastic!!!! I haven't read any of this author previously, but intend to now read all previous titles (This is apparently the 8th in a series!!) Don't let that put you off, however, as it didn't affect my enjoyment of this thriller at all. well written, and gripping from the start.
