I had not read any of Martin's earlier book but that didn't matter- this is a fun, cheery, light read. I read this on a rainy day and it raised my spirits. Darcy and Riley are terrific characters you will root for (as you will for others in the town.) Martin has written a plot driven romance that never feels contrived. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. You will like this if you enjoy British chick lit Thumbs up!

Having recently discovered Holly Martin, I was looking forward to diving into another of her series and Summer at Rose Island was the ideal read to settle into the hotter-than-Hawaii-UK-heatwave with. I haven't read the first two books in the White Cliff Bay series, but that wasn't a problem and with quirky characters in a beautiful setting it was an enjoyable trip.

"Being with you is going to get me in a whole heap load of trouble, isn’t it?"

Centralising around saving the islands lighthouse, we have marine biologist, Darcy who has escaped the mainland and her overbearing, thoughtless parents, and Riley; lighthouse keeper, lyricist, American and a bit of a hermit.

"I’m weird too, so we can be weird together."

I'm a bit partial to a reclusive man and Riley is that. He and Darcy have an immediate pull towards one another and as they get to know each other they bring everything from fight to fun, sweet to sexy. I have to admit there were parts that seemed a little on the saccharine side but I still appreciated how they wore their hearts on their sleeves as simmering away is the reality that if the lighthouse isn't saved, Riley loses his home and return to the US beckons.

"If I had to choose between keeping you in my life or saving the lighthouse, I’d choose you without any hesitation."

Once again Holly Martin has created an entire cast of characters who were easy to love and who I plan on spending more time with once we get in to the festive period. George and Libby, and Penny and Henry are already on the kindle waiting for me.

A fairly typical romantic novel, well written but a bit predictable in parts. OK as a holiday read.

Yet another fabulous story from Holly Martin. She has very quickly become my must read author! This time we meet Darcy who moves from London to Summer Island in search of a new start.

There she meets the locals and one in particular Riley seems to be very hard work for her to get to know....

If you want an easy fun and romantic read then this is the perfect book for you!

This is the third book in the series and even though I have read every book in this series I do feel that you could read this one as a standalone and be able to follow the story perfectly!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an arc copy in exchange for an honest review.

Summer at Rose Island is the third book in the White Cliff Bay series. I haven't read the first two books in the series, but that didn't spoil the read. I think each one can be read as a standalone story.

I have read another of Holly's books - 100 Proposals - and so I'm getting to know Holly's style. She writes sweet romances, so if that is what you are looking for, Summer at Rose Island ticks all the boxes. Now I enjoy a good romance, but this story was possibly too sweet. It seemed all too easy, with hardly any angst. There were a few blips in the romance between Darcy and Riley, but nothing major, and certainly not very in-depth.

What I enjoyed more I think was the town and community Holly has created. There was a strong sense of place. I also enjoyed Darcy's back story - how her parent's treated her over the years and the effect that had on her. I also liked her interest in all things to do with the sea - that was a different slant. All in all, I liked Darcy's character.

I haven't got much to say about Riley. He was nice enough, but a little bland I think.

Being a dog owner, I liked the inclusion of the two dogs. All in all this is a pleasant, light read, so I would recommend it.

Enjoyed this book from page 1. A light romance with interesting characters and a different storyline. Perfect read for a sunny afternoon.

So happy to get back into Holly Martin's White Cliff Bay! Her books always seem to make me laugh. This can pretty much be stand alone though I have forgotten characters from the first book. After reading the excerpt for book 2 you see some characters have made a appearance in this. I loved how the story ended with the lighthouse. It was interesting to read about British foods he was trying, she describes them and does not just figure we know what they are. Which is a plus in my book since I am not that familiar with all British foods. The item under the bowl was really funny, Holly Martin always makes me laugh with her humor! Always keeping my eye out for a new title by her.

Darcy Davenport’s parents have made it clear they are tired of her ability to settle down with either an occupation or a man. Now, she has retreated to White Horse Bay, the place she spent her summers as a child with her beloved aunt Ginny. One day on a swim, she ends up on a little island with a beautiful lighthouse. She barely has time to explore before an angry man chases her off. Darcy soon learns the man, Riley Eddison owns the island and lighthouse and has gone to great trouble to restore it. But now the lighthouse is to be torn down, replaced by something smaller, newer. Darcy jumps in with the locals to save the lighthouse, but it has nothing to do with her feelings for Riley, or does it? I loved the small village atmosphere and how everyone teamed up to save the old lighthouse
