I haven't read any other books in this series, so am new to the ideas and characters, but I found it quite easy to pick up who was who and what was going on. Some bits were a bit irritating, but mostly I found the story quite good. It was certainly well written, although perhaps with a story being one of a series, and not the last one, the ending wasn't as conclusive and satisfying as it might otherwise have been.

I enjoyed this book, I am looking forward to reading the rest in the series. I haven't read any other Nicci French books but I will certainly be looking at her other books for me to read.

I did not realise initially that this was the 7th novel in a series. Therefore, beginning it was a little confusing as I obviously had not read the previous novels and did find it difficult to fully understand some of the characters and plot. Compared to other thrillers that I normally read, I did not find anything particularly interesting or redeeming about the plot, and considering it is the 7th novel in the series, it appears that the writer was running out of ideas.

I am in charge of our Senior School library and now during this time of lockdown, I am looking for a diverse array of new books to furnish their shelves with and inspire our young people to read a wider and more diverse range of books as they move through the senior school. It is hard sometimes to find books that will grab the attention of young people as their time is short and we are competing against technology and online entertainments.
This was a thought-provoking and well-written read that will appeal to readers across the board. It had a really strong voice and a compelling narrative that I think would capture their attention and draw them in. It kept me engrossed and I think that it's so important that the books that we purchase for both our young people and our staff are appealing to as broad a range of readers as possible - as well as providing them with something a little 'different' that they might not have come across in school libraries before.
This was a really enjoyable read and I will definitely be purchasing a copy for school so that our young people can enjoy it for themselves. A satisfying and well-crafted read that I keep thinking about long after closing its final page - and that definitely makes it a must-buy for me!

Nicci French's books are always fantastic and this one is no exception. Brilliant!! Must read, as are all her books.

A gripping thriller in the seventh book in the life of Dr. Frieda Klein. She is a noted psychologist who has become a detective and carrying on from book 6 she finds a body under the floor board of her house, left by her nemesis Dean Reeve. Or so she thinks, the police believe that he is dead. A great thriller and although I haven't read any of the previous books I may well go back and take a look.

I didn't find Frieda a likeable character and couldn't wait to get to the end of this so i could read something else!

Sunday Morning Coming Down is book #7 in the Frieda Klein series written by Nicci French. The first I've read in this series, it works perfectly well as a stand alone novel but did leave me curious about Freida's story so far.

When a decomposing body is found under the floorboards of Frieda's home, the police investigation begins and Frieda is adamant it is the work of missing presumed dead criminal Dean Reeve and has been targeted directly on her as a warning. Frieda has for many years insisted that Reeve is still alive and in hiding, something which infuriates the police force who believe she is showing them to be incompetent.

Soon the people close to Frieda find themselves under individual attack and a calling card left at the scene of each attack directly calls out "Frieda Klein".

Frieda and her eclectic mix of friends band together to try and help her solve the crimes with help from a sceptical and resentful police force.

The story develops well and keeps the reader guessing until we start to the see the perspective of the actual criminal and the story leads to its conclusion. While it's not a nail-biter of a conclusion, the book wraps up really well and keeps the reader guessing as to how it's always going to unfold.

A good, well-written and developed police procedural from Nicci French which I enjoyed.

I couldn't finish this book - I'd read some of the authors other books and found them to be really well thought out and good to read but there was just too much dialogue that I completely lost who was saying what and when - to a point that I just couldn't get the gist of what was going on.

Sorry, there's not many books I don't finish - I tried several times to get into it, maybe it was just my state of mind and this is something that I could come back to. If I do, I'll update my review.

I've always enjoyed Nicci French books and this was one was no exception. I liked the interaction of the characters and the foundation of the fact family are not just the people you are related too.
I will read another one.

This was such a quick read. And I was pulled in pretty much immediately. I love Frieda. She is such a cool and collected character, yet you know underneath she’s trying very hard to not jump to conclusions and rash decisions and hysterics.

I need to go back to the beginning and read her story. Butt overall, I loved this book. Well written, character driven and with enough twists to make your heart happy.

Always enjoy a Nicci French novel. The Freida Klein ones are good, but preferred her stand alone ones. However, still a good read.

I have very much enjoyed the Frieda Klein series and have read it all in fairly quick succession.

Frieda has found a body underneath her floorboards and is convinced it's a calling card from her old nemesis, Dean Reeve, who the police are convinced is already dead. Is it really Reeve or could it be something else that is hellbent on destroying Dr Klein? The usual cast of characters are as always present and I especially love Karlsson, the patient DCI tasked with trying to keep Frieda in check. A very difficult job at the best of times! Frieda is slowly unnerved as events appear to be spiralling out of control and it takes an awful amount of tenacious effort to fight to uncover what is actually going on.

Sunday Morning Coming Down is the penultimate book in what has been overall a fantastic series. I haven't always liked Dr Klein with her closed off ways, but she's a character that has grown on me over time and I will miss her long hours of walking the streets of old London town.

I'm very much looking forward to the final instalment. Can't wait actually and seriously hoping for a satisfactory resolution. Bring it on .......... !!

I read and enjoyed some of the early books by this team, but none had Frieda Klein in them. I found it really unsettling and just too Gorey and brutal to be enjoyable. It seems as if from a completely different pen. Having said that, I assume tastes change and the authors have adapted to this by going harder. It really wasn't for my taste but was well written and in parts intriguing.

I was offered the opportunity to read and review Nicci French’s latest in this series Sunday Morning Coming Down with a recommendation to read the first in the series to begin with. I read through Blue Monday and skipped the rest of the books in the series to read and review this one. I was a little worried that I would have missed a lot of the important character development, but I need not have been. I was able to pick up Sunday Morning Coming Down without feeling like the characters were totally different. Granted I had missed out on some significant events by the sound of it, and some less significant (Freida has a cat...?) but the main blanks were filled in for me. Although I’m not entirely sure whether it’s a good thing or not that the characters didn’t seem to have developed much during the 5 books I’d missed. It was handy for me, but I would have expected something more momentous to have occurred over such a time and it actually made me decide not to go back and read the previous books because I don’t feel like I’ve missed anything, certainly not anything big enough to alter the characters outlook or progress them in any way.

That said, I devoured this book. It compelled me to keep reading. As I was cooking dinner, making coffee, brushing my teeth... I couldn’t put it down, I just had to keep on reading. And for me, it was really handy that the characters I’d come to know in the first book were all still the same and all in tact! So it was familiar and I didn’t need to go through the whole “getting to know the characters”.

It was a shame that there wasn’t more time for Freida’s professional insight in this book. The first book contained a lot of psychological concepts that Freida brought in and were discussed (some at length), but aside from a vague mention of Freud there was barely any of that in this book. And whilst it made for a gripping read, it felt less intelligent than the first in the series because it was less of a “thinker”.

I did manage to figure out who the second criminal was a while before it was revealed, and I wasn’t a fan of how quickly his demeanour changed once he was suspected. It was too sudden and too drastic a change.

This book wasn’t filled with as many twists as the first (going back to what I said above about it feeling less intelligent), it was a bit more about action and violence and fear than the suspense and “whodunnit”. Which is fine because that’s what the book was - I expected different because of the first book but perhaps if I had read all of the ones in between I may have had different expectations as it may have been a more gradual change in the style of writing.

For me, this was a definite page turner and I enjoyed my time reading it. I didn’t like it as much as Blue Monday, as I found it lacking in comparison but I would certainly still rate it as an excellent read! And I will certainly read more in this series (if and when they are published)!

This is the sixth in the Frieda Klein series, and was just as good as the others. I do hope there will be more in the pipeline. The intrigue is excellent and makes this book a real page turner. I just hope this series continues as I feel I know all the characters and will miss them should it not. Nicci French is an excellent author and I have enjoyed all of the books that I have read so far. I would recommend this book wholeheartedly.
