I'm not going to write a lengthy review for this book, as I read it in order to decide whether I should read the latest in the series. From the outset I loved the character of Frieda Klein and the kind of cases and characters that she deals with is exactly the sort of crime I enjoy reading.
So thank you very much, I shall noe proceed to read the latest in the series and will review that properly on my blog, amazon, goodreads etc.

I admit I’ve not read any Nicci French books before but with her next book in the series out soon I wanted to go back to the beginning as it were. It was a unique POV in this book with a psychotherapist walking into a police station claiming to know something about a crime. Imagine if your patient had had a dream about something that sounds very much like a recent police case?
After reading the book, I’m not quite sure what to make of Frieda as I don’t think I liked her or really got to know here. She doesn’t seem to like herself very much and I want to know why so I’m going to read the next few books as I’m curious! The psycho analysts aspects of the story really built up for me so whilst these confused me at times, I hope to have understood more by book two. I just hope the subject matter of the next case is a bit more...well...less uncomfortable.

Thank you for the opportunity to read this book. It was quite a good book. The storyline was well written. The characters were great, not impressed with the main character, think she is a bit cold. I suppose that comes with the job of psychotherapist. A lot going on there. Good book worth a read.

Freida Klein has just joined my shortlist if best sleuths. This was fast paced, twisty and engaging, keeping me turning the pages until the end. What a great start to a series. I can think of so many people to recommend this to.

This is the first psychological novel in this fascinating series featuring the psychotherapist, Frieda Klein. She is a woman who suffers from insomnia and is careless over her own safety. She is not close to her own family, is a loner, for whom work is her main obsession in life. Frieda has concerns over the disturbing revelations of a client which appear to connect with an actual child abduction. This leads to her working with an initially sceptical DCI Karlsson. Frieda finds her self in the darker territory of the mind as she probes her client and delves into the mystery. This is a well plotted novel that pulls the reader in with ease. Our introduction to the character of Frieda is that of a complex, intelligent woman with a strong dash of the cold in her personality.. An excellent start to the series.
