I am not quite sure about the flat characters in this book, such as Julian... To me personally, he was simply too flat. Just like Harlow was too straightforward in almost every way and every conversation.
But I did warm to the main character Taliah, and I definitely love Toby and what he said about trees: 'I think we could stand t learn a lot from trees. They're resilient. And they're always growing.'
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of the book.
This was a quiet and sweet little story, that while it didn't have the heart racing, was a heart-warmer of a read and made me want to turn each page as fast as I possibly could. Tal has never met her father, but with some educated guessing it is clearly rock-star Julian. A man she is clearly never going to meet. Until he shows up on her doorstep.
Therefore, starting on a journey of discovery as Tal discovers more about her father's family and the man she thought she would never get to know. This is a wonderful book about acceptance, trust and believe that things can change. I loved the family history and the background to this story. It was so much more than a discovery of family. Tal also discovered her parents love story.
The reason that this is not a five star for me is because there is a lot of information and not enough action. While information is good, I did wish that the characters moved a bit faster on that information and stopped dithering about. It would have made the storytelling so much faster.
Also Tal was a bit boring, but as it says in her description she is 'ordinary' and throughout the book that clearly shows.I wish that there had been more of Harlow as she was definitely a feisty character and pushed Tal into making the right decisions.
This book is perfect for the more romantic in us, the ones who need a happy ending and a story that will make you fall in love with it time and again.
I didn't expect to read this within a few hours but I became engrossed. I just wanted to know what had happened all those years ago. I really enjoyed this and would love a novella set a few years from now to see where their relationship went.
Unfortunately I am unable to review this as the file only consisted of the book's copyright information and author's acknowledgments. Please note that I have therefore given it 3 stars on the basis that it has a good synopsis and I'm sure that I'd enjoy reading the whole thing.
