I enjoyed The place we met. I felt it was well written and I could imagine I was right there at Lake Como in Italy. Have a read it was great.
This book was everything I was looking for. A lovely story narrated by two POV which didn't bother me at all. It's a perfect read to be done on Christimas time. It has a romance but also a bit of suspense. Love it every bit of it.
Interesting book - didn’t see the plot twist until it happened by which time you had formed your opinions of the characters which was then at complete odds with the situation presented to you.
Brilliant book. Isabelle Broom manages to really capture the essence of the location and makes you believe you're there with her descriptions. Lovely, funny, story with gorgeous, poignant moments. Highly recommend.
Yet another alluring novel by Broom set in a gorgeous location destined to enthral her readers. Told in alternative POV by our protractors Taggie and Lucy Broom tackles issues of pain and self-doubt as a consequence of being constantly let down by those they love. Their human saga unfolds in the beautiful holiday resort of Como Island as she takes one on their journey of self-discovery, hopefully healing and lasting peace. It is an emotional roller coaster ride as Broom plunges us into her protractors lives ruthlessly unravelling their every emotion, baring their very souls as she tantalisingly unfolds their saga. One glimpses the grit, mettle and spunk of the two gals as we wade through the trough of their emotions to rediscover themselves. Will Taggie and Lucy two very different protractors find themselves and true love? This novel has all the hallmarks of Brooms style complete with an HEA.
Lucy is a nurse in a new relationship with Pete. They decide to have their first holiday together in Lake Como where Lucy used to go as a child.
Taggie works at a hotel in Lake Como and also has many happy memories of the area as a child. She plans a big New Years party for the residents and locals.
Their lives are connected through love, pain and Lake Como. Everything comes to a climax on New Years Eve where all their secrets come out.
This book obviously has a wonderful setting and so you'll be sucked right into Italy as soon as you pick this up. The book follows two characters and so we have a dual narrative structure that I love. Both characters have skeletons hiding in their closet that we don't know about and all is revealed as the book continues. Despite the fact that I really wanted to find out what each of these women were hiding I did find the pace of the book a little slow and struggled to bond with the characters initially because I knew they were hiding something, nevertheless I wanted to know what that is and I enjoyed reading about the Italian food and the Italian landscape.
The characters were really quite different and so I can see why this author chose to have their stories come together in this way. I really liked Taggie and respected the way she composed herself and her reasons behind being in Lake Como before and after finding out what they were. I didn't like Lucy as much. I found that I really didn't get along with the way she had so many doubts about things but she didn't follow up on them. She was a little indecisive and it really began to grate on me. Later on in the novel she definitely finds a little more back bone but I wasn't entirely happy with the ending that she got.
The secrets that both these women have and even those they don't fully appreciate are what kept me reading through this book and the structure definitely made me keep turning the pages. Because I struggled to identify with one of the characters I think I struggled to keep up the pace during her sections of the story. Overall though this was a good read and I really enjoyed spending time in Lake Como.
It was ok i guess. It took me absolutely ages to trawl through it because i constantly lost interest and found something better to do.
Another wonderful story from Isabelle, can't help but be drawn into the characters and go on a journey with them
A romance with a difference. Set in Italy, Lake Como mainly, which was lovely as I have been there and could imagine their love of the place. The story revolves around four main characters, two couples Pete and Lucy and Marco and Taggie. But Pete and Taggie used to be in a long term relationship, which ended about 6 months before they all meet up again and the truth of the story is revealed. A little slow in the middle of the story, but a interesting and plausible ending. Happy ever after, but shouldn't all romance stories be so....
Thank you for approving my request. Full review on my blog soon
Oh my. I loved this book. The first of Isabella Bloms I have read and it won’t be the last.
Set in Lake come, Italy. I love Italy! And the way Isabella writes you feel like you are there. New Year’s Eve and live is in the air. Such an easy, heart warming read. Loved it. Thank you for the arc
This is another wonderful book from Isabelle Broom, who is the Queen of Making You Want to Book A Trip to the Place She Writes About.
This is because Isabelle excels at making the location of her novel come alive in your imagination, and this novel is no different to her previous efforts. Perhaps you will find, like I did, that you'll want to go visit the location-- in this case, Lake Como, Italy in the winter-- as soon as possible. I was rooting for the characters throughout the book and really wanted each of them to get the ending they deserved. (Happily, they did, but no spoilers here.)
Thank you to Penguin and NetGalley for providing me with a review copy in exchange for an honest review.
I generally tend to prefer more fast paced books these days. This was a good read, although I was more taken with the descriptions of Lake Como than I was with the actual story (oops!). Good if you like this sort of light hearted read...
This book was set in the festive period and it really made me want to visit Lake Como. I loved how the story was set out - each chapter by one of the two female lead characters. The story flowed well and even when I thought I had figured out the plot (which I didn't) I was eager to read more to see what would unfold. Taggie and Lucy are both really likeable characters, their worlds collide in the least unlikely of places - Lake Como. one is running from heartbreak whilst the other is trying to cement the foundations of a newish relationship. As the story unfolds there is a lot of baggage that both women must face so that they are able to move on. A story of love, heartache and coming through the other side stronger - my perfect blend of a book. Although the book ended perfectly I would love to read a second book featuring all the characters and see how their lives continued.
Review: This book took a little while to get into but once I did it was OK. Its follows two women who just want a happy ever after. This book for me was missing something. It was well written and a good read but was missing something in the plot.
It just shows that you can't run away from the past and the sooner one confronts it, the sooner one can move on. A delightful read with a feel good ending.
This writer is one of my favourite. She sets all her stories in different countries and describes the setting so vividly that you can imagine being there. There are two storytellers in this book, Taggie and Lucy. Lucy and Pete have come to Lake Como for their first winter holiday together. Their relationship is fairly new. Taggie works in a hotel, around Lake Como, as a tour guide and entertainment organiser, She meets, Italian, Marco and sparks fly! But what is she running from? Read on!
This was my first book I have read by this author but it won't be the last. A slow start but do on built up to an emotional story
A fairly typical story of the heroine running away from a trauma in her life which we learn about through the course of the book. Took e a while to engage in the story but once I did I found it an easy read.
