A gritty British crime novel that has an ex Metropolitan Police Detective Constable, now a private enquiry agent, taking on a case for a Casino owner. The story unfolds nicely and is easy to follow. Some of the seamier side of the London social scene is put on display for you to ponder about. The ending will leave you wondering but that is up to you, the reader, to discover.
I have rated this book 4.5 stars and recommend it if you enjoy crime stories as only the British can do them.
I received an ARC from Netgalley for my unbiased review.
This was a fun read! A modern day, irreverent, womanizing gumshoe who tries to track down kidnap victim. A little predictable but with such likable characters and snappy dialogue that you don't really care. For fans of noir crime fiction this is a must.
This is not the sort of book I'd usually read - detective novels are not my genre - but I was tempted nonetheless. Graham Burlem's writing is fast, pithy, sometimes surprisingly witty. His novels career from one plot point to the next and are carefully plotted. They are very easy to read.
