I didn’t get around to reading this book sadly. Not for any reason other than lack of time. Thank you for the opportunity though.
Thank you for the opportunities to read this book. I have attempted it on a number of occasions but unfortunately I haven’t been able to get into it.
The Missing girls by Carol Wyer.
Detective Robyn Carter crime thriller series Book 3.
When a girl’s body is found at a Midlands storage unit, it is too decomposed for Detective Robyn Carter to read the signs left by the killer.
Brilliant read. Thoroughly enjoyed this book. 5*.
Great story, thrilling plot that I could not put down. Well worth a read, and would recommend to others.
The Missing Girls – Carol Wyer
Yet another cracker of a book from Carol Wyer, this is number three in her Detective Inspector Robyn Carter series. These can be read as standalones but as is nearly always my opinion they are better read in order beginning with Little Girl Lost. One of my favourites things about this author’s book is that the topics are usually relevant to current and this is no different. From the very first harrowing chapter everything stopped for me there was no way I could put this down till I had finished and wow what a finish.
Reading this book to a certain extent makes me glad that I have boys rather than girls, I know you still worry about them but it’s a whole different set of worries when you have girls. Social media has become a very scary place; the amount of detail and information that is put out there is scary. Online bullying is on the rise and it’s purely because small-minded nasty people use it to say what they like as and when they feel like it, after all it’s so much easier than face to face isn’t it?
I enjoy Robyns organisational skills, using post its and plenty of recaps both for the team and the reader, making sure to keep us up-to-date with the cases progress. Her knowledge of forensics and post mortem are written so as not to be salacious but to be informative. Every DI should have a team that’s as loyal and dedicated not only to the job but to Robyn as well. Each and every investigation DI Shearer, Mitz, Anna and the rest of the team work their socks off, putting in the hours almost neglecting their own personal lives.
I honestly can’t recommend both the author (Carol writes chicklits too) and this series highly enough. *Since reading this we now have the formidable DI Natalie Ward series to get out teeth in while we wait for the next DI Robyn Carter.
Read for an honest review. Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture
Really enjoying the DI Carter series from Carol Wyer. The Missing Girls is number 3. "A young girl's body is found in a storage unit. DI Carter and her team struggle for leads. Then another body is found and another girl goes missing. What do they have in common? Can they find the killer in time?" There is a little twist at the end. You might guess it, but it's still a fun read. And you get to learn the Queen's English again! 😂 Another good story from Wyer
I must admit that I do have my set routine for reading Carol Wyer’s novels. All doors and windows locked, curtains drawn (if dusk) lights fully on and an emergency supply of chocolate next to me, just to sooth the tough moments because there will be plenty!
The first chapter just creeped me out, a young woman petrified, dazed and wanting her mum in a totally dark room, for me, was enough to make me well up but then a noise. Bloody hell, I was ready for dialling 999 myself! All I could think was lordy I hope it’s quick because you aren’t going to see chapter two!
The chapters that follow are all dated and numbered as Day one, Day Two, giving the whole sequence of events that follow an urgency to find out, where, why and who someone if targeting these young women, that seem to have nothing in common. The thing that really got me, was the sheer pleasure that the killer feels. Well really more than pleasure, more a gloating at the victims suffering and savouring every second until their death. Wow did it bring down the temperature in my lounge!
Detective Robyn Cater is up way past her neck in this novel, with a new boss to win over, bodies of dead girls turning up in the most unlikely places and missing girls that seem to be running out of time. Nothing obvious seems to link them. Of course no-one can work 24 hours a day so she tries to relax and find some sort of escape from the terrible things that some people do to each other.
This is a very modern story which to be honest feels like it could really be bubbling somewhere before it explodes. Carol Wyer to me is a people watcher as I can imagine her going out choosing her characters from the crowds of shoppers or in a cafe, the ones she sees in everyday life because that is how real the characters feel. They aren’t cardboard, each one seems like a little bit of someone you know, even the ones that are on the brink of trying to cope with situations that aren’t in their control.
This is a story that will make you look at the people you live with and wonder just what goes on behind the tap, tap of fingers on key boards and phones. A fabulous story of other people…………….. I hope!
I wish to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an e-copy of this book which I have reviewed honestly.
Another fantastic page turner by this author - kept my interest right up until the end. cannot wait to start the next book in the series.
The body of a beautiful young girl is found wrapped in plastic in a trunk at a storage facility. DI Robyn Carter discovers that a well-spoken woman dressed blue brought the trunk to be stored by the facility. Her name appears to be an alias and DI Carter is at a dead end trying to track the rented van the woman used. Another body is found and the similarities are obvious. DI Carter now knows they are hunting a serial killer. But what is the connection between the two girls? A third girl goes missing and Robyn knows there is a connection somewhere...she just has to find it.
This series by Carol Wyer just keeps getting better. This is a fast moving, gripping read that will keep you guessing. I love it and highly recommend it.
I received this book through Netgalley.com in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to Netgalley.com, to Bookouture, and to Carol Wyer for this opportunity.
The Missing Girls finds DI Robyn Carter on the trail of a killer yet again when a stakeout that was meant to lead to a drug bust turned up a the body of a teenage girl instead. she is left with few leads and too many unanswered questions when the body of another girl is discovered. The pressure is on to find the killer, and Robyn needs to solve these murders in a hurry because someone she cares about is missing—and time is running out.
What I Liked
I loved the second book in this series, Secrets of the Dead, so I had high expectations for The Missing Girls. I wanted a chilling crime spree committed by a villain whose identity I would be completely unable to figure out before the Big Reveal came, and Wyer definitely pulled that off. That chilling crime spree I hoped for took on an even more distressing note when the motive behind it was revealed, because it was the sort of thing that felt like it could easily happen in real life.
I also wanted to learn more about Robyn Carter, herself—particularly concerning her memories of her dead fiancé, Davies Hilton, and her struggle to deal with his loss.
An unexpected twist at the end of the book completely surprised me; I finished this one some time ago, and I am still blown away by it!
What I Didn't Like
As much as I loved the cliffhanger ending, I didn't like having to wait for the next installment of the series. (Okay... I know that barely counts as a dislike, but it's the best I could come up with for this section of my review.)
Final Thoughts
The Missing Girls is an intense thrill ride that's the very definition of unputdownable. With a series of crimes made all the more frightening due to the believability of the motive behind them, the villain in this novel will be hard to forget. The surprise bombshell at the end of the book is destined to take your breath away and have you rushing on to book four as quickly as possible.
If you haven't started reading the DI Robyn Carter books, you seriously need to get on board with this series, because hours of entertainment await you!
I received an advance reading copy of this book courtesy of Bookouture via Netgalley.
THE MISSING GIRLS is book 3 in the DI Robyn Carter series, by author Carol Wyer, and is based on bullying and revenge. The author chooses to address a topic that is very much in the forefront in today’s society, and one that should be given more attention. I have read the first two books in this series and loved them, so now plan to read the remaining three books in the series.
There are currently 5 books in the series that include:
1) Little Lost Girl
2) Secrets of the Dead
3) The Missing Girls
4) The Silent Children
5) The Chosen Ones
One girl found dead. Another girl gone...
A little girls’ decomposed body is found in a trunk, and the only thing that is known is that a woman in blue rented the storage locker and had dropped off the trunk. The victim, Carrie Miller was wrapped in plastic, with her arms folded across her rib cage.
Detective Robyn Carter and her team are assigned to the case, with little or no clues to follow-up on.
No one knows the woman in blue who rented the unit; her hire van can’t be traced. But as the leads run dry another body is uncovered. This time the killer’s distinctive mark is plain to see, and matching scratches on the first victim’s skeleton make Robyn suspect she’s searching for a serial killer.
As Robyn closes in on the killer’s shocking hunting ground, another girl goes missing, and this time it’s someone close to her own heart.
Robyn can’t lose another loved one. Can she find the sickest individual she has ever faced, before it’s too late?
This is a gripping and darkly compelling detective thriller that will have you hooked from the very start, with an ending you won’t see coming! The plot and writing are strong with believable characters to make for a very enjoyable read…and part of the team!
Many thanks to Bookouture via Netgalley for my copy.
I love it when you finish and book and immediately pine for the next one and this was one of those books. I had read the first two books in this series and loved them so started this book with fingers crossed that it would be as good as the last two. I need not have worried in just a chapter in and I knew it would be a brilliant read. The thing I love most about these books is that you almost feel like you are part of the team, you get pulled head first into the story and exit with a serious book hang over. The story flows so beautifully and easily and there’s a few little things thrown in there to mislead you and keep you on your toes.
A little girls body is found in a trunk and the only lead is a woman in blue that rented the storage locker and dropped off the trunk. Soon another body with some similarities turns up leading Robyn to think that it is the work of a serial killer but not everyone is as convinced as she is.
And the ending of this story is just a complete sucker punch and you just don’t see it coming at all and all is nicely lined up for the next book….which I really really want to read RIGHT NOW!!!!
This was already book 3 in the Detective Robyn Carr series, and I can with all honesty say, they just get better. This book continues where the book left Robyn's private life in book 2, (no spoilers!) and the relationships she had with her fellow detectives just get more interesting as well. The book will read nicely as a standalone, but perhaps its better if you read them in order, just to make sure you miss nothing!
The book is well worth your time and effort, I promise!
RATING: 4 STARS

This one is my favourite of the series so far. It was really suspenseful but also had a lot of characterization and more chemistry between Carter and her team. I am so happy I have one more book to read in this series!
The Missing Girls is the third in the DI Robyn Carter series by Carol Wyer, and once again Carol has not disappointed!
I loved the first two books in the series, Carol has swiftly become one of my favourite crime authors and as soon as this book was announced I was keeping my eye on NetGalley in the hope it would be shared. Cue large amounts of excitement, clicking the request button and checking my emails repeatedly hoping for an approval email, and then it came and I got nervous, what if I didn’t enjoy it as much?! Carol set the bar so high with her first two books in the series, but I’m pleased to report any fears were unfounded. Once again Carol has done a wonderful job!
A storage facility is raided as part of a drugs operation, instead of drugs the team finds a badly decomposed body hidden in a trunk, Robyn and her team are brought in to investigate but with false information given to the storage company all they have to go on is a mysterious woman dressed in blue who dropped off the trunk. With a new DCI at the station, Robyn is struggling to prove her theories, and when someone Robyn knows is abducted the case becomes personal as she races against the clock to try and find them.
Once again Carol has put together an amazing plot, well written and fast paced you’ll find yourself reaching the final chapters before you know it! I particularly enjoyed seeing a little more of Robyn in a personal position, spending time with Amélie.
Then there’s the ending – I’m not going to give anything away, but that ending! Carol what are you trying to do to me?! This is an ending that will leave you demanding book four, luckily you won’t have too long to wait, The Silent Children will be published by Bookouture on 7th December!
Would I Recommend?
Always! Carol is an author that does not disappoint, all three of her DI Robyn Carter books are well written with gripping plot lines and stunning cases that will keep you enthralled from the first chapter to the last! I’m already counting down to December. I need to see what comes next!
Detective Robyn Carter is back with a bang in another thriller. The formula remain the same girls missing+ found dead +torture and cuts on body =serial killer and police investigation.
The author Carol Wyer has written an action packed twisted tale with Detective Robyn Carter at the helm. This is the third book in the series. There is a strength and conviction in Carol's writing, and she seems to grow more with every book.
Detective Robyn too grows with the book. There is self assurednes and an aura of confidence about her. She is as clever as she was in the first book. I like the fact that Robyn's personal life is also told to us and it is nice to read about the woman she is at home. The plot may appear same but the treatment given definitely isn't.
Carol has packed this fast paced thriller with enough twists, forensics and good team of investigators that it leaves us asking for more. A great thriller.
Well if there has to be one advantage of being a little late to the party, it is the fact that I have gotten to read all 3 books in such a short time to each other. Non of this trying to remember any of the main characters.
Book 3 in the Detective Robyn carter Series, is just as good as the first two.
Here we are back with Detective Robyn Carter. A great character, and getting to know has been interesting.
Robyn is still struggling after losing her husband, and wishes he was with her, life is lonely so what do you do? get yourself stuck into a new case.
The body of a missing girl is found in a storage warehouse, but no one knows who the woman is that had the chest put in there. It's not to long before a second body turns up and it soon starts to look like this is the same killer, but still the team have no idea who they are looking for.
This book certainly keeps you going, page after page, you want to read just that little bit more. I love it when a book grabs my attention and this certainly did that.
I love the main character Robyn, she seems like a woman who is passionate about what she does, yet cares about the people around her.
I'm looking forward to book 4 which I now get to read right away, and consider myself very lucky to be able to do so. Looking forward to it because the ending of this book has really left me needing the next one. NOW!
As always I say this is part of a series, and I personally think the books are better read in order, but you could get away with reading it as a stand alone. But personally i'd just buy yourself all 3 books now and lock out the world, by the time you finish them book 4 should be available. How cool is that?
Carol Wyer is one of my favourite authors! Detective Robyn Carter is a strong female detective who has the respect of her team. A great book with lots of twists and turns that kept me reading late into the night. A good twist towards the end. Although this is book 3 in the series you don't really need to read them in order.
If you follow me on Instagram you know that I have a lot of love for the DI Robyn Carter series. When Little Girl Lost was released at the beginning of the year, I was blown away when I realized that it was Carol Wyer’s first attempt at writing a thriller. She writes as though she has many years of experience in the thriller genre. Secrets Of The Dead proved to be another great follow up in the series, and Carol Wyer has become an author I will automatically read. If you haven’t had the pleasure of interacting with Carol yet, I suggest that you connect with her on social media, she is so kind!
When my dear friend Julie (Novel Thrills And Chills Review) suggested that we read book three in the series, I was thrilled to reconnect with Robyn and her team. One thing I want to point out is that each book can be read as a standalone, but I would recommend reading the series in order to get Robyn’s full backstory.
The Missing Girls is my favorite book in the series so far! The story is about bullying and how harmful it can be to all those involved. Carol Wyer creates these stories that are relevant and entirely plausible, which makes them that much more terrifying. I love Robyn Carter’s character and how she will do anything to find justice for the victims and catch the killer. I admire her devotion to her job and the loyalty of her team.
The Missing Girls is full of twists and turns the entire way through. I thought I had figured out who the killer was halfway through the book, but wow was I wrong! Carol Wyer throws a curve ball with that ending that I did not see coming! I’m looking forward to continuing the series with book four in December.
Have you started reading the DI Robyn Carter series yet? If you haven’t, I highly recommend that you put these books at the top of your TBR pile. Why? Because Carol Wyer knows how to create an intricately written story that is gripping, fast-paced, and completely intense.
Head over to Julie’s blog (Novel Thrills And Chills Review) for her thoughts on The Missing Girls!
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture, and Carol Wyer for the opportunity to read The Missing Girls. It was my pleasure to write an honest review.
This novel blew me away! I was hooked on page one! This is my favorite DI Carter book in the series so far!!!
The Missing Girls was read as a buddy read with my bestie Megan over at Coffee By the Novel. This book was a novel that was completely devoured and very hard to put down. The DI Robyn Carter series has been one of my favorite series. It has currently surpassed the Helen Grace series written by M.J. Arlidge in my eyes.
I love everything about Robyn Carter. I love her work ethic, I love her thought process, her instincts, her devotion to not only her job but to her colleagues, and most of all I love DI Carter for the way she still loves her husband after his passing.
When decided to read this book, both Megan and I had already been huge fans. This book could not have added more suspense to our lives along with more love we could give Wyer.
The Missing Girls had me hooked from page one. I had life happen in the middle of this book and could not read it as fast as I would have liked but the times I was reading, I was completely captivated by Wyer’s writing. The story line, writing style and character development were on point in this novel.
There are just the right amount of twists and turns. Especially when you’re not ready for them. I can say that the culprit I had in mind was definitely not who it turned out to be. Even with this books’ incredibly dark side, it had a very light emotional side as well. With Robyn giving more light into her married life, her relationship with Amelie and her new found work relationship with Shearer, it contains the perfect amount of “awe” moments for this twisted psychological thriller.
This book deserves a 5 star rating and a lot of praise! If someone asked me for a recommendation, the series would be a definite first thought while recognizing this book as my favorite! December cannot come fast enough to get my hands on The Silent Children.
