The Missing Girls is the third novel in the D.I Robyn Carter Series and it’s the best one yet. It starts with Amber Dalton waking up with a throbbing head. In a dark empty room apart from a mattress she is lying on and wearing something unfamiliar and rough material. The last thing she remembered she was wearing her pleated black skirt and silk blouse. She moves and feels around the room to find a door and then she realises that someone is in the room with her. There is a piercing light comes from a man wearing a night vision goggles and with a torch who threatened her with a knife. Amber is so scared she wets herself. The man says that he should rub her nose in it. She wants to go home but he says “it’s too late you’re mine now”.
DI Robyn Carter and her team are on a drugs raid at a self-storage unit, when they come across a chest. Where they find a decomposed body of a young woman in it. When they are trying to find out who this girl is, another girl goes missing. With simarilaties of both disappearances, DI Robyn Carter knows she has a serial killer on her hands. But she also has another hurdle, she has to convince her new boss DI Flint that there are not just disappearances but a serial of murders.
Wow, what a book. It gripped me throughout. It was intense, gruesome in parts and the author was very good at keeping you hooked from the start to the end. I liked how the story showed the ups and downs in the police investigation. It made the story more believable, the in-depth story of each character and I thought it was very up to date in the world in the way that, the story included a phone app and the subject of cyber bullying. This has a well deserved 5 stars from me.
I also liked the little teaser at the end of what going to happen in the next instalment in the DI Rob Roby Carter Series. Can’t wait.
Thank you Bookouture and Netgalley for and ARC of this book.

I read this hoping that I could dip into the series without reading the first two. It was absolutely fantastic. I can't wait to read the first two!

The opening of the book, we are introduced to Amber.
Amber can hear some sort o drumming sound, but, she doesn't know where its coming from as she is wrapped in complete darkness, wrapped in a thick blanket.

She knew she had been doped. But, had she been raped?

She is not the only girl that goes missing; the connection through each girl later becomes apparent and the author makes us aware of this at the time.

The pacing of this thriller is at the correct pace for a story like this at it allows the reader to digest the full impact of each event, each sentence and each chapter.

Robyn who take the lead role in the detective side is a passionate woman on a mission.

I thought at times she had a witty way about her when speaking about things other than #the case#

The investigation side of it was very informative, I could see how the author had done lots of research the make this fictional story stand out and believed.

I really enjoyed the book, I also enjoyed reading the information from the author at the back of the book explaining how she came by the subject matter.

It was definitely full of anticipation and had me fixed and foxed right until the end which left my jaw dropping with mixed emotions toward the reasons for these crimes.

Fabulous read.

For those that follow my reviews they may recall that I wasn't a great fan of this series in the early days, however I'm pleased to say that I am so glad I stuck with it as I feel invested in the main characters now. This third instalment is definitely the best yet and based on the final two chapters I cannot wait for number four!

I'd like to see Robyn & Tom Shearer work a case together, or perhaps have Robyn confide in him regarding her personal shock revelation that has just been dropped on her... would he want to help her? Judging by the increasing positive interactions seen throughout The Missing Girls I think his feelings will be conflicted (of course, this is all hypothetical!)

I'll definitely be recommending this series now to fellow crime fans!

Thanks to Bookouture for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

We are back with Robyn Carter and the team and I feel like this series is building in pace and couldn't wait to get started on this new one. A body of a girl, 16-year-old Carrie Miller is found in a trunk and Robyn and the team are working on the case. We see the return of the cracking characters that form part of the team such as Mitz and Anna, as well as a somewhat more likeable DI Tom Shearer. Robyn's new boss Flint however is not somebody that has gelled well and it's not going to be easy for Robyn.

The story itself was pacey and we see the team work their investigative magic. Alongside the team working their case, we once again meet Robyn's cousin Ross who I absolutely love. He is working a case looking for a missing dog and I was thrilled to see him back as he is a character that I love and think works well in this series.

In addition we see Robyn working through her grief after the loss of her fiancé Davies. In addition she still has contact and is forming a relationship with Davies daughter Amelie. I really liked this element of the story as we see how Robyn is coping and her thought process. The plot for the murder of Carrie Miller weaves its way throughout the book adding lots of layers and as the bodies add up, so does the stress put on Robyn and the team. I loved this latest book and as for the ending...well it was a cracking one! People are saying it's a cliffhanger, but I disagree. It's just an absolutely first class opening for the next book and I cannot wait to see what happens. Another brilliant read for this new book by Carol Wyer and I loved it from start to finish, roll on book 4!

Excellent read. Difficult to put down and read it as quickly as I could! An excellent story with twists and turns before the final surprising revelations. Very readable and definitely recommended.

I really loved the first book in this series, didn't particularly like the second but this one was right back up to 5 star standard. I did get annoyed with the repetitive references to the boyfriend which was putting me off but then the ending happened! Omg, I cannot wait for book 4.

This goes straight in to my top 5 books of the year, Carol Wyer just gets better all the time. The suspense and drama keeps you reading and the things that come out towards the end you would never think of. This series about DI Robyn Carter really is excellent with the next one coming later this year you need to read this now.
From a routine drug bust to a young girl found dead in a trunk is just the beginning, how many more will die before they find the killer and why are there not any clues? Superb book that I would recommend.

‘The Missing Girls’ is the third novel (and the best in my opinion) in the Detective Robyn Carter crime thriller series, set in the Midlands. This novel has moved to a setting even closer to my home in Rugeley, when a body is discovered in a self storage unit in The Towers Business Park on the Armitage side of town. The badly decomposed body of a young female is recovered in an unassociated police raid and taken away for further examination. Meanwhile another girl is missing and the race is on for Robyn and her team to chase down the murderer before another body is callously discarded.
Immediately, the few clues that are left behind are closely examined as the team try to put together a profile of the murderer. They watch footage from nearby CCTV cameras, which yield only grainy images of a van depositing the grim contents of the made-to-measure box in which the plastic covered body is transferred into storage. This case is complicated and therefore very hard to solve and challenges the team more than any other investigation. As the body count racks up, so the pressure is on, and even more so when a girl who is a friend of Robyn’s once-to-be step daughter disappears like the other girls, seemingly into thin air. Robyn is sure this is the work of a serial killer, a fact soon to be proven. Committed and dedicated, the specialist team settles down to the laborious task of tracing and interviewing friends of the poor victims to try to establish if they are connected and by what or whom. Meanwhile the killer remains undetected in a fog of mystery and determined to evade detection until the spree is complete.

This novel gripped me from the very beginning and I was soon eagerly turning the pages. As each new clue was revealed my heart leapt, trying to work out where it would lead. I loved the dark, twisted storyline that kept me guessing throughout the entire novel. The pace began to escalate as the team made more progress but never once did I predict the fiery and dynamic conclusion. The storytelling was stunning, teasing out every possible detail and laying the clues out like a jigsaw puzzle but this time on differently coloured post-it notes for each thread of the investigation. Where would it all end? When the final revelation came it took my breath away. The cleverly plotted storyline was inventive and highly original. I also loved engaging with Robyn and her team once more, gradually coming to know and respect them even more than I originally had. With the case solved and the criminal safely removed from society, I thought the ending was a real teaser of a cliff-hanger, making me determined to read Carol’s next novel. What a clever idea!
I would like to thank NetGalley and publisher the amazing Bookouture for my copy of ‘The Missing Girls’ sent to me in return for an honest review. This is an excellent read within the genre, and I can wholeheartedly and with confidence recommend it for you to read. It’s a well deserved 4.5* review from me.

This is the third novel already where DI Robyn Carter investigates a case, and now I'm more certain than ever that this is a series to follow with each new book she publishes. I liked the second novel but I do feel this one's stronger, with a very good plotline and a real motive. She scores high points in my books! Robyn and her team, Mitz and Anna, Ross and even Shearer are also all really starting to grow on me and it was a warm welcome to see them back.

I'm not going into the plot because there really isn't much to share except that it's all a big mystery, you don't know who and you don't know why and Robyn really doesn't have a lot to go on. It'll take great skill to get on the right path that will give her an inkling of who it is and until the motive slowly and carefully comes into the picture, but skill is something Robyn (and the author) possesses in oodles.

A few details that I want to highlight this time which makes me really love this series and this novel so much: I like how fully detailed Robyn and the pathologist's findings are described. Some people don't enjoy descriptions like this but I do, it's like standing next to a body yourself at that moment, experiencing everything in that moment at the same time as the detective and it satisfies that need that I'm feeling to know and learn more about what fascinates me. I also really enjoy Robyn's personality in general and I continue to admire and like how she goes through the investigation step by step, the way that Robyn keeps control of all the different leads she's working on. She makes it very organised by using post-its, by the way she talks about it, by recapitulating her findings from time to time and that works really great to keep up myself and get a clear image of it in my head as well where we're at, even if it's nowhere at that time. I appreciate this writing, keeping it a steady pace and never letting the investigation run in chaos, all over the place. She's gently leading me towards a motive, a person who might be responsible for all this. It's like a mist before my eyes and she makes the sky clear up gently and slowly.

She didn't let me down, there were a few unexpected twists and turns while I was racing towards the big reveal of the killer's identity but it wasn't that which made me audibly gasp, it was another sort of twist and turn that got me even more excited than unmasking the killer this time. The ending leaves much to the imagination and I'm very impatient to see what'll happen next. What a great move, and also what a tease! I can't wait for book nr. 4!

This series just keeps getting better!! I love Robyn, what a fantastic character. And that ending - OMG I need the next book now!! When on a drugs bust the team find a body in a chest... this leads them on a twisted and complex journey to discover the murder and stop any more girls going missing. With it getting personal for Robyn she does everything she can to stop these murders. Highly recommend this book and the series to anybody who love a good story - one that you can't guess the ending of. A big thank you to Net Galley and Bookouture for an advance copy of this book to read, enjoy and review

This is the third book in the DI Robyn Carter series and boy does it pack a punch on every level.

I have reviewed the previous two books in this series this year and loved them both. The second book Secrets of the Dead is one of my favourite books of this year, surely The Missing Girls couldn't match that? Well, Yeah, and some.

The thing that makes me love these books are that they are so believable, The plot, The characters all of it. Carol Wyer has yet again created a rather disturbed yet lucid killer and the plot has been so well thought out and executed that you get dragged right into the world that has been created and I really didnt want to leave. At the end of the book I felt like Sam Tyler from Life on Mars (and what a series that was by the way.) when he finally woke up, he missed the world his mind had created and jumped off a building to get back to Gene Hunts world. Turning my kindle round and round hoping to find a portal to the world of Robyn Carter was unfortunately a waste of time as this being a rather boring real world where nothing exciting happens, I couldnt find it, guess I will have to wait for the 4th book instead.

Now I know I havent really told you much about the book, I never really do, because I dont want to ruin any of the story for you. I mean I could do an essay with accompanying Power Point presentation covering all the plot points but why would you want to read the book after that?

What I will say is that the ending is totally unexpected and left me open mouthed and very excited for the next book.

Fantastic book that quite rightly shoots its way well into my Top 12 books of the year.

The Missing Girls is the third book of a relatively new detective series I’ve become addicted to ever since I read the first book back in February. I admit it wasn’t love at first sight when I first met the main character Robyn Carter, but she has definitely grown on me since that first encounter and I’ve become a fan. The Missing Girls is just as good as the first two books and offers the same quality writing, suspense and another serial killer on the loose. Because there is no doubt about it: these books read like a train. The writing style is very engaging and the pace is fast; combined with the many plot twists you’ll definitely be on your edge of your seat to find out what will happen next. I did guess a few things about the ending early on, but fortunately this didn’t make the journey less enjoyable for me. The social media and cyber bullying theme and the dangers involved were an interesting touch as well. The main characters are well developed and it is great to see Robyn Carter evolve over time as she is trying to recover from her loss. I’m also really liking Ross both as a character and subplot, and the way his storyline also adds a little something to the main plot. And that ending! I’ll definitely be waiting impatiently for book number four to come out… If you enjoy reading fast-paced crime thrillers, definitely give the DI Robyn Carter series a go. The Missing Girls is a true detective thriller winner for quite a few reasons. Fast-paced, well written, a healthy dose of suspense, one creepy serial killer, plot twists, an interesting character… This third book of the DI Robyn Carter series has all that and more.

Loved this book. Broke my own rule and read this book out of sequence in the series and now I have to go and buy the first two. Loved the characters (just hope I've not shot myself in the foot regarding the subplot) and the main plot was gripping too. Lots of twists and turns and to a great unexpected conclusion
Carol Wyer you are now on my must read list- off the purchase the others now!

I love this series! Book 3 in the DI Robyn Carter series and it just keeps getting better. Robyn and her team find a dead girl in a storage unit....the body count keeps rising...what a cliffhanger at the end! Great characterisation, more twists and turns than a roller coaster, red herrings galore and the appearance of Ross the private investigator. Definitely the best in the series and I can't wait for the next one. Thank you Net Galley for my copy. I reviewed on Goodreads.

This is the third book in the DI Robyn Carter series and the books just keep getting better and better.

DI Carter is called to a storage facility where the body of a young female has been found in a trunk, the body is identified as a 16 year old girl who had left home after an argument with her dad and has been missing for six months. Meanwhile another teenage girl has gone missing and Robyn thinks there may be connection between them.

When a third girl appears to go missing Robyn is certain there is a connection but her new boss DCI Flint disagrees with her and Robyn and her team struggle to put the case together. I like the way the team all work under pressure to finally bring the matter to a conclusion and how they put together the clues to find their murderer, which comes as a shock.

I enjoyed this book, we get more than a glimpse of Robyn and how life has been treating her since her fiance Davis was killed and how difficult she finds her life without him.

An excellent read with the hint of something more to come. Highly recommended.

I haven't read any of the Robyn Carter books except for this one, so I didn't know any of the backstory alluded to in the pages of The MIssing Girls. Having said that, I really didn't need to know much because this book could have been a stand alone.
When several girls go missing in an English town and summarily start showing up dead, DI Carter and her small group are anxious to prevent another girl from doing so. Add in that one of the girls is only 13 and known personally to the Detective, an against the clock pursuit to find the person responsible occurs.
The story was well told, the characters fully developed and the story line solid.
