I am a fan of fantasy and the blurb was really attractive. Unfortunately I was not able to involved in the book and found it bit too long and tiring.
Many thanks to Troubador Publishing Limited and Netgalley
I loved the storyline and characters Newell used but I do admit it was hard to get entirely lost in the book. There's so much information going on that I really think this first book could have been split into two. One of the things that I really liked were the strong female characters who had love stories however, these love stories weren't the only thing driving their characters, Another theme I liked was the magical influences and time travel, you can tell Newell definitely spent a lot of time researching the local legends and history of Cornwall including Merlin's influence. The only thing that vexes me is the decision to name the novel, Tintagel instead of Trevena (the Cornish name that was assuredly used during the time his main character time traveled to). Notwithstanding, Newell's novel is a good read - it just takes a little time to get into it but once you do, you'll definitely love the storyline and characters.

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Sigh...I wanted to like this book. I think the concept of the book is good. The execution, however, is not. The writing style was painful and not fun to read. I read a lot of books. I read a lot of young adult books. I even read a few books for younger readers just to see what's out there these days. That said, I couldn't figure out who the audience was for this book. The writing style is definitely not something adults would enjoy, and it's not sophisticated enough to compete with the myriad of outstanding young adult books out these days. It was hard to make myself read this book. Ultimately, I had to give up about half-way through. There are so many books to be read - I just couldn't waste any more time on one I wasn't enjoying.
Some book just don't work for some people. I've tried to get into this book but just can't get involved. I feel it can't make it's mind up about who the reader is. Is it adult? young adult? child? It seems to be a mixture and one I can't adjust to. It's a great idea & I loved the sound of it but I'm afraid I am going to abandon it.
I love time travel and fantasy, but as hard as I tried I just couldn't stay interested in Tintagel. I hope that you have better luck!
