A gorgeous read that is perfect for a beach holiday or just lazing in your back garden, I adored it and was sad when it ended.
Summer at Coastguard Cottage is one of those books that is perfect for reading on holiday on the beach or by the pool,
I am so sorry, my old kindle broke and I lost all of my old books before getting the chance to read this title, that is why I have not been reviewing for some time xx
I do love Jennifer's books. she creates a light atmosphere with great characters, enjoyed this book howver to start with i did find it a bit confusing with so many characters to keep track of, but once i got used to who they all were it was okay.
i liked that it was one as weeks rather than chapters, allowed you to keep track of time.
I enjoyed this book with its pleasant summery feel to it.
It was an easy quick read and I enjoyed the break from reading heavy crime dramas that seem to have taken over my reading list.
I particularly liked that the main characters were women, a successful career woman and a woman who had put her life on hold for the sake of her family.
I would recommend this book for a holiday read.
Review: This is a lovely read. A warm romance. Beautiful written and ended way to soon for me. The plot is great and has a real twist to it. Will be looking for more from this author!
I loved this Summer based feel good read, something to make you smile and cheer you up in the depths of winter. I have enjoyed other books my Jenny Bohnet and this book did not disappoint. I loved the characters and how she makes you feel that you know them in her books.
I couldn't finish this book. I tried to but I found myself bored trying to read it.
Would highly recommend this book, especially for a lovely holiday read! Thoroughly enjoyed it!
I enjoyed this book - a heartwarming read set in a lovely location with an amazing community feel. I loved the setting and warmed to all of the characters straight away.
A lovely warm read about families, relationships, friendship, love and loss. Alternate chapters told from the different perspectives of the characters. A beautiful location set in a glorious village on the Devon coast - it seems idyllic, the ideal location for a holiday.
A feel good read where you can get lost in the tale of each character. Highly recommended.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
I received an Advanced Reader Copy from NetGalley for my unbiased opinion of the book. I really enjoy this book. It has several different stories going at once which I love, it keeps me wanting more! The main female characters found their voice and backbone by the end. I can't wait to see what happens next to them!
Beautiful cover that set the scene just perfect. Its a brillant summer feel good read for me. Lovely mix of characters in what seemed like a lovely little village to live. Just loved the book.
Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. What a great chicklit book that makes you feel all warm inside.
This is a beautiful summer read transporting you to Devon so heartwarming full of every day life difficulties and decisions to make. Karen is escaping to Devon as she is desperate to forget her ex can she move on and find love then there's Carrie who is at a crossroads and just inherited a fortune from a father she never met can she find happiness or will she shock her friends with her life changing decision. Then there is Bruce who lost his wife and is learning to live again and his wife loved their cottage by the sea but can he bear going with memories of his wife or should he sell up. Can all three be happy again with decisions they make well worth reading and being transported to the Devon coast.
Great British woman's fiction. A wonder read. Picture a quaint group of summer cottages on the sea shore. Couples who have shared their summers for years. Secrets for some. Love for others. Being from across the pond I did have to look up some British jargon. Now on to other Jennifer Bohnet books.
Four people are returning for summer vacations at Coastguard Cottages. They have been visiting their summer homes for years but there are some changes this summer. Divorce, death, finances all play a part in determining how this year turns out. A nice summer read that's not too deep that will make you feel good. Set in a small Devonshire village it makes a great change of pace.
The second title I’ve read from Bohnet, what strikes most obviously is the characters and their growth and transformation, even as they are in a ‘familiar to them’, at the Coastguard cottages. The cottages are four summer cabins, each owned by one of the four characters in the story: Bruce, Megan, Carrie and Guy, who all are having their own moments of crisis and hoping the setting will help them come to decisions. With insets from secondary characters, and plenty of soul-searching, the stretch for each to find their own new path while basking in the gorgeous coastal setting is a seemingly simple, yet decidedly complicated story. In all the best ways.
From coming to terms with life without his beloved wife, to the dissection of a marriage on the rocks, a search for a birth mother after a windfall from an unknown and unmet father to the simple task of healing, each character comes alive and palpable: allowing readers into their own lives, stories and struggles as they completely burrow into your heart and head. Who hasn’t had those moments of questioning: who you are, why you are there, just where should you go now? With gentle interactions and friendships renewed and rekindled, the characters each find answers and new determination to move forward, changing their trajectories or finding comfort in the old and familiar. Bohnet gives moments of engagement and insight into each character: allowing them to develop and grow, even as you find yourself worrying for them, cheering them on, or wondering just why they don’t do things your way. Easing readers into the story that doesn’t just focus on each character’s moments of trial or interior monologue, but allowing for the interactions and subtle insets of each person’s story to unfold, presenting a rich tapestry of a tiny community, brought together by chance but bonding in support, camaraderie and shared struggles.
Dialogue is natural and flows, with distinct voices of each coming through clearly: you feel the sorrow that weighs heavily on Bruce and Guy, feel Hazel’s frustrations, understand the tentative approach to the world that stands out from Megan as she struggles with redefining herself as wife or divorce, and then there is Carrie. Adopted and now searching to discover her beginning without the worry of money from an unexpected inheritance, her voice shows the questions as she works to define herself with the newfound knowledge and unending questions she has lived with forever. A wonderful read that shows that taking time to truly discover yourself in a setting that is familiar yet different from your everyday can help you to grow, discover and decide on your next moments.
I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

A good story with a few twists. I loved the description of the location and the characters, who all stay at coastguard cottages every summer. Central to the story is Karen who is on a trial separation from her husband, and Carrie who has just inherited a house in the local area.
