Nice, light romance. Interesting characters ,especially the dog's.
This is not my usual read but decided it would make a suitable book to read while on a holiday in New York-Manhatten, a city with a remarkable amount of dogs!! Although this was book 6 in a series it stood up well enough on its own with enough description of the characters in the family to support it. Harriet the dog walker decides to break out of her comfort zone over Christmas and set herself a set of challenges over the period. In so doing she meets the handsome Dr Ethan who comes with his own set of challenges. Their affair is the crux of the book. Will this unleash a new confident Harriet and collar the handsome doctor Ethan? I found the story initially a slow burner for me but I did get drawn into the story but am still undecided whether to try any of the others in the series. It was a good easy holidayvread in a busy Big Apple schedule.
Sarah Morgan has long been one of my favourite writers. Her ability to weave words on a blank page is renowned and it wasn’t me that coined the phrase magician with words, but it could have been.
Moonlight over Manhattan is a charming tale of strength over adversary. Harriet and Fliss are twins: we have already found out Fliss’s tale in holiday in the Hamptons, a summer hit for Sarah. Now, it’s Harriet’s turn. Harriet is the shy twin, she also suffers from a speech dysfluency, or stammer if you like. Now this, for me is where the story got a little freaky. As a parent of twins, one of whom suffers from a speech dysfluency I think you’ll agree that I wasn’t able to view this from a position of neutral. I was all for being super critical but I was left eating my words (no pun intended) and can only comment on the indepth level of research that has been undertaken. The story grabbed me from page one and, although I didn’t finish it in one sitting it did only take two.
Now the big question is: this my favourite Sarah Morgan of all time and the answer would have to be no. That would be Miracle On 5th Avenue, which was last years Christmas story. However as this also appears in my top favourite five books of all time I think you can allow me some largessse especially when you take into account that this list includes Wilkie Collins The woman in white and, of course, Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. In fact, I think I’m going to snuggle up under a cat or two and read all three again…
Dog walker Harriet Knight is facing Christmas without her twin sister. She’s determined not to gatecrash Felicity’s first Christmas with her new partner and his family; although she knows she would be a very welcome ‘extra’. She’s on her own and must learn to be more independent. She’s always wanted a ‘happily ever after’ romance but as yet has not found her soul mate. She sets herself various challenges to take her through to Christmas: all the challenges will put her outside of her comfort zone, but she reasons that this is a good step to take when she really wants to be like her twin Fliss, self confident and outgoing.
The ‘Internet Dating Challenge’ has turned out to be an unmitigated disaster. To escape her third suitor, she ended up in the emergency department of the local hospital. Don’t ask! There she meets Doctor Ethan Black, the senior lead doctor who is bemused by her injuries. Forced to take a little rest whilst her badly sprained ankle heals, she pushes ahead with her ‘Challenge Harriet’ project, dreaming of owning her own dog and still hoping that she will one day meet someone who will make her heart race, love her for who she is, respect her decisions and sweep her off her feet.
Life sometimes has a strange way of making dreams come true. As Harriet gets back towards normal mobility, so she unwittingly falls in to another ‘Challenge’ situation. Her business with Fliss is primarily a dog walking business, but Fliss has always wanted to add dog sitting as another complementary service. Harriet is against this, but when one of her clients is called away to a family crisis, she reluctantly agrees to stay over at the dog-sitters when lively spaniel Madi cannot settle down in her temporary new surroundings. Surprisingly she soon feels more at home than she had ever expected to, even doing some cooking for her new, hot male employer. Harriet blossoms, makes new friends and feels that at last her life is getting on track, especially after THAT kiss!
'Moonlight Over Manhattan' is the sunny, romantic and hilariously funny latest novel written by Sarah Morgan. I have to confess to being an avid fan of hers, reading all of the ‘Snow Crystal Trilogy’, the ‘Puffin Island Trilogy’ and the ‘From Manhattan with Love’ series to say nothing of her Mills and Boon novels. I’ve praised and loved them all. They sparkle with magical moments, pure romance and sizzling love scenes. I love the continuity of the characters that pop in and out of the various novels. I’ve already invested myself in their individual ‘spotlighted’ stories, and, like meeting old friends, catching up with their lives is truly lovely. I believe no one else writes such lovely romances as Sarah. This one melted my heart and was a real page-turner.
I would like to thank NetGalley and publisher HQ for my ARC, sent out in return for an honest review. This is a stunning read, enjoyable, heart warming and littered with wonderful comic situations and one-liners that had me chuckling away. If you have never read any of Sarah’s novels, try this one. I can guarantee you will love it.
It was great to receive this book from Netgalley as I have previously read Holiday in the Hamptons the precursor to this. It wouldn't matter if I had read the previous novel or not as enough of the background is provided to allow this book to work as a standalone.
Moonlight over Manhattan would be the perfect book to read snuggled up on the sofa, in front of the fire with a cup of hot chocolate to hand as it is set around Christmas and this is a great festive read. If I am anything to go by there is a huge market for Christmas holiday reads and I am sure this one will do well..
Basically this a romance with an inevitable ending for the feel good fans but it has slightly more meat on it and I soon got drawn in. The characters are all realistic and well rounded, each with their own individual history, possibly to be taken up by the author at a later date to be woven into a story of their own.
The storylines are moral and give a number of insights that are worth pondering which I think lifts it above the guise of mere chick lit.. The plot gives the reader food for thought even though. as I have already said, the outcome is always obvious, the plot along the way is often compelling. The perfect Christmas read in my opinion.
I love this series, and this book was no different, just better if that's possible as it's set at Christmas in a snowy New York with dogs, and we even get to visit Snow Crystal Resort in Vermont from one of Sarah's other series, absolutely perfect!
Harriet is co-owner of Bark Rangers with her twin sister Fliss, who has since moved to the Hamptons (previous book), and they walk dogs for busy owners. In this book Harriet also agrees to dog-sit for Ethan, which she doesn't normally do. Ethan is an extremely busy ER doctor who ends up looking after his sister's dog after a family emergency. Of course he's not used to dogs and has very little time, so after a few mishaps with Madi, the beautiful spaniel, he hires Harriet to dog-sit in his apartment.
Harriet is the much quieter and shyer twin and, as she is now on her own for the first time in years, she has decided on a 'challenge Harriet' list, trying to do something every day that challenges her and pushes her out of her comfort zone. She may have been the quieter twin but she was still very strong minded and as the book went on she started to believe in herself more, which was lovely to see as she was such a kind, caring person.
Harriet and Ethan start to see more of each other but, with Harriet being so open and honest about her feelings and Ethan being more closed off about his, slight issues occur, but nothing that isn't resolved eventually. There were some lovely side characters in this story, Susan especially, she was wonderful, I loved the banter between her and Ethan, and and I would really love to see her featured in a future book as she really deserves some happiness.
The whole book was just one big, wonderful, warm, fuzzy, Christmassy feeling. Loved it!
Moonlight Over Manhattan is book 6 in the ‘From Manhattan with Love’ series. It can easily be read as a stand alone, but I highly recommend you read the whole series, not only because they are wonderful, but you’ll also get little snippets as to how the other characters are getting along as you move through each book.
This book is Harriet’s story (identical twin to Fliss – book 5) professional dog walker and the much quieter, reserved of the two sisters. Harriet has always struggled with people due to her shyness and stammer than can occur when she is afraid or in an uncomfortable situation. Now, close to 30 and to stop herself relying on other people she has come up with ‘Challenge Harriet’ – each day she does something that she usually wouldn’t do to take her outside her comfort zone. Internet dating was one of those challenges, but after three awful dates and finding herself climbing through a window on the last one, she ends up in the ER where she first encounters dishy Dr Ethan Black.
A few days later Ethan’s sister asks him to look after her dog ‘Madi’ for a few days. He isn’t best pleased; he’s a doctor, he works long hours and has very little time for anyone. Once informed that the regular dog walker will still come and walk Madi twice a day, he agrees – after all what could go wrong, surely the dog will sleep the rest of the time….
What I love about Sarah’s books, especially this series is how real and relatable her characters are. Harriet is the character that intrigued me and one I knew I’d relate to the most. Like Harriet my shyness has always got in the way of things, and when she explains the way that she needs time to open up and relax around other people before she can really talk – but usually by that point the person hasn’t stuck around to give her the chance, I completely got how she was feeling having had it happen myself!
Harriet and Ethan’s relationship really grew on me, bit by bit Sarah created a wonderful chemistry between them that had me laughing and really rooting for them to get together. Seeing Harriet relaxed and chattering away around Ethan without realising just made me smile inside.
Sarah is my go to “comfort and escape” author. I know roughly what I’m going to get; know that I’ll be left smiling at the end, and this book was no exception to that. I’ve loved every bit of this whole series and am extremely sad to say goodbye to these characters, but also excited to see what Sarah has in store for us next.
This book is perfect for those dark, cold nights that are almost upon us. Curl up with a warm drink, and together with the snowy backdrop of Manhattan and characters you really care for, you’ll be left smiling and full of warmth.
Another wonderfully romantic story from Sarah Morgan. It intertwines with her others in the same series. It's a lovely easy read and I found I didn't want to put it down once I'd started it. Sarah makes it easy to relate to the characters and you just want a happy ending. One of her best books yet.
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Chemistry: ❤❤❤
Trope: Festive romance
One-Sentence Summary: Dog-walking and dating in New York at Christmas
Review: I'm not going to lie, I didn't fall instantly in love with Ethan and Harriet and their story. In fact, when I was pushing through the first third, I was wondering whether I was going to enjoy it at all which was odd because Harriet is a character I can really relate to.
Thankfully my lacklustre feelings changed soon enough and I really started to like the way their relationship developed. My absolutely two favourite things about the book though are:
1) Getting to revisit the O'Neils in their idyllic winter wonderland and catch up with those beloved characters
2) Susan. I really warmed to this secondary character who is a great friend to Ethan. I am really hoping that she can get her own story as watching her struggle to move on from the tragic loss of her husband and son would definitely be an interesting arc.
I very much enjoyed this final book in the trilogy. Sarah Morgan writes about characters and situations you can believe in. Her writing is engrossing and her characters and storylines are warm without being saccharine.
It's like Sarah Morgan has been inside my head.
She's had a rummage about, moved some tumbleweed aside, picked out every single thing I like in a romance and then put them all in her latest book, Moonlight Over Manhattan.
It has the brave yet troubled heroine, the handsome, hot, brooding hero (who also happens to be an ER doctor), chemistry between the two that's almost palpable, a charming supporting cast, a storyline which keeps you engaged from page one, and, as an added extra, a cute dog.
Tick, tick and tick.
I'm no stranger to Sarah’s books (this is book six in this series alone, although they can all be read as individual novels) and they would automatically be on my must read pile but I’ve really been looking forward to Harriet’s story ever since her first mention.
Sarah has really delivered with this one, it’s a lovely warm story with plenty of emotion and the romance between the two is so well written.
I felt instantly connected to shy Harriet and loved the way she tried to overcome her difficulties. In fact, Harriet and Ethan both seem very real which meant I was invested in their tale and stayed up later than I should have done for several nights while trying to finish it.
A well deserved five stars.
With thanks to HQ via NetGalley for the ARC in return for my honest opinion.
I always love Sarah Morgan's books and they're a great read. Whilst I enjoyed this one, it was slightly spoiled by the introduction from the author which indicated the outcome of the story before I'd even started it. Of course, it's a romance so we know how it will end up but it just set the wrong tone for me and didn't allow the story to unveil itself.
Setting that aside this is the story of the quiet twin Harriet and shows the steely strength of her character. In Challenge Harriet she is pushing herself out of her comfort zone and giving the reader lots of amusing anecdotes.
This is a warm book, up to Sarah Morgan's usual high standards-- but with a little more raunch - closer to her Mills and Boon writing than the rest of the Manhattan series
4*
This is the sixth book in the Manhattan series and follows the story of Harriet, the twin sister of Fliss who we got to know in the previous book, Holidays in the Hamptons. Harriet is the quieter of the twins and struggles with people that she doesn't know, she co-runs a dog walking business with her sister and her love of animals is evident. When Harriet decides to set herself some challenges outside of her comfort zone, she takes up online dating, which is how she first meets Ethan Black aka Dr Hot and no, he's not one of her dates! When she meets up with him again after helping out one of her clients with their dog Madi, things get heated and Harriet is faced with yet another challenge.
I have loved all of Sarah Morgan's Manhattan series and this one is certainly no exception. After reading quite a few psychological thrillers I needed something light and fluffy and Moonlight definitely fit the bill. Anyone who has read books by this author knows that when you pick up one of her books you won't want to put it back down till after you've read the acknowledgments at the end. It's the type of book that you can curl up on the sofa with and lose yourself within the magical setting that the author effortlessly creates. I can't wait to read more in this series.
I would like to thank HQ for approving me to read this book, I will post my review on Goodreads now and on Amazon on publication day.
Wow Sarah Morgan never ceases to amaze me with her books. Yet again another fantastic and sexy romance with enough charm and wit to keep me coming back for more each time. Just fell in love with this story and the brilliant characters Sarah Morgan writes, doesn't get better than this. What you waiting for go get your copy now, you will love it too and this fabulous author.
Harriet is the quiet twin to Fliss, Fliss has always taken charge, especially if she thought Harriet would be uncomfortable with a situation.
Now Fliss has fallen in love and moved in with her boyfriend it means Harriet has to get used to living by herself and with dealing with awkward situations. Because they are doing so well with their dog walking business Harriet will now need to deal with all types of situations even if she doesn't like them!!!
So challenge Harriet begins, with Harriet trying to do something everyday that makes her feel uncomfortable, such as online dating (which doesn't go well!!)
This is a well rounded story of Harriet coming out of herself and basically growing up and what life can offer her if she pushes herself a bit more.
Coming of age romance with the feel good factor.
Harriet Knight, dog walker, has decided to push her boundaries, stop relying on other people and complete a new challenge every day until Christmas. Whilst trying internet dating - for the third and last time - she sprains her ankle whilst escaping from her latest date through the restroom window.
Doctor Ethan Black likes to be in control, has no time for emotions or plans for a long term relationship. He does not like dogs either.
Can these opposites attract?
Grab a "hug in a mug" of hot chocolate, some of Harriet's chocolate chip cookies and settle down for a warm and wonderful pre Christmas indulgence.
I was given an arc from NetGalley in exchange for an honest and independent review.
This is the 4th book that I have read in the series and I loved it. It was endearing, sweet and romantic. A very easy to read book which I couldn't put down. One of those books, that whilst not highbrow, was like a secret guilty pleasure that you can't help but indulge in.
Looking forward to reading more from this author.
4.5****
I love reading Sarah Morgan’s books and have enjoyed her New York series. Its great to finally catch up with Harriet’s story, she definitely deserves some love and excitement in her life. These are provided by seriously hot Dr Black, who treats her twisted ankle in ER after a hasty window exit to avoid another online dating disaster. Fate is kind and Harriet finds herself dog-sitting Madi, who is temporarily in Ethan Black’s care. After a seriously rocky start, Harriet finds herself growing to care for Ethan, however, he has learnt to shut himself off from any emotion that would overwhelm him at work. We follow their story in the snowy run up to Christmas and hope.
This book was very much a feel good factor read and I had to keep going back to it when I had other things to do. Not one you want to put down.
This is the second book I've read by the author with these characters. I find her writing engaging and think the book is a good fun holiday read.
Will definitely be reading more by her.
