I received a copy from NetGalley; this is my honest review.
It starts light and fun, then the story is full of ups and downs. One chapter you're happy, the next one there's suspense, then the next one you really want to cry, then you're happy again. In between, you get the rest of any existing emotions possible.
It's a good thing the book is double POV otherwise we wouldn't know what was happening with one or the other and both are important since they're living in their own world for about 40% of the story.
I would have liked a bit more of their lives together, though.
The author is good at describing many things. Among other things, she sketches most people's facial expressions.
Funny moments: 1. The author tells us which toothpaste they are using or the cloth detergent's brand, details you will not usually see in a story but she really wants us to be in the era. 2. Delaney and Klayne got married, her carrying a bouquet of carnation; a superstition around red/white carnations is that they bring bad luck. Since it's the only flower I'm not allergic to, I married with them too and living the bliss (for both of us!) for over 25 years.
Good read. Don't miss out buying this one. Looking forward to the next one in the series.

I have read a couple of Shanna Hatfield's books before and wanted to try this new series. I liked Delaney and Klayne and the character development between them but this was not a fave of mine. I felt the story was drawn out and had too much detail that wasn't needed. I did love how both Klayne and Delaney did not give up when faced with their trials. I honestly don't know how I would have reacted. 3.5 Stars.

Home of her heart

By shanna Hatfield

The book opens three weeks after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. Klayne Campbell, our hero is a member of the 17th Bombardment group, Army Air Corps. Heroine, Dee a rodeo rider. Off to war, our hero is to depart but before he leaves. He marries the girl he just met Miss Dee aka Delaney Danvers. After a very sweet, short courtship. They get married. He goes off to war. The war part of the book is excellently researched. It is so amazing you actually can't put the book down. A really good read.

I received a copy of Home of Her Heart by Shanna Hatfield from Netgalley. Klayne and Delaney "Dee" gave the readers a looks into the lives of servicemen and the women who loved the during the terrible time when Japan bombed Pearl Harbour. This was a sweet, heartwarming, emotional read. You could almost feel what Klayne, Delaney and poor Ryatt were feeling and going through. I cried through part of this book, it is that emotional. I look forward to reading more in this series.

Home of Her Heart is second in the Hearts of the War series. I have not had the privilege of reading the first in the series but I plan on doing so. If you are familiar with the Pendleton Petticoat series of books this takes place in the same town but like 40 or more years later during World War II. Some of the same characters from that series make an appearance in this series. I think it is neat that you get to catch up with what they have done with their lives.

This is the story of Klayne Campbell and Delaney Danvers. They have an almost instant connection and fall quickly in love after only knowing each other a short time. They meet on New Years Eve and around the beginning of February they marry. Klayne wanted to marry so he could declare her as his beneficiary. I don't think he counted in falling madly in love with her so he did everything in his power to stay alive.

This was an enjoyable read. Keep your hankerchiefs handy. There are some sad moments in the book. You will laugh and you will cry. There are moments of heartache and of joy.

I am looking forward to reading more in this series. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me a digital copy of this book to read and review.
