An enjoyable read that engaged me from page one.
"The Singer siblings are back at Meadowbrook Manor and their father has one last request…
Harriet Singer hasn’t been home in ten years, her days focused on work and very little play since moving to New York… But when her father dies Harriet jumps on a plane to England right away, planning to be heading back to NYC in the morning.
But her father has other ideas…
To gain their inheritance all four Singer siblings must live together at Meadowbrook Manor for one year, caring for the house and working at the Animal Sanctuary set up within the grounds."
Interesting premise & characters. A good light read.
I really enjoyed A Year at Meadowbrook Manor, a lighthearted read which I lost myself in over a weekend. It is one of those books that transports the reader to a idyllic English countryside village, within which live characters who become friends. The story was one within which I became engrossed and found myself laughing out loud.
An entertaining and enjoyable read. The author really draws you into this family and there's enough going on to keep the pages turning. A fun read with lots of emotion to give depth to the story.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book.
Faith Bleasdale is back with a bang! This is the first book I have noticed published by the author for about a decade (my maths may be slightly off), but I recall loving her back in the 00's so was delighted when this book appeared on my radar as a new release.
After such as gap I did wonder if my memory was playing tricks on how much I enjoyed previous books by the author, but thankfully my instincts are spot on, this is one fabulous book, and I am delighted to see what appears to be a sequel available for pre-order already!
The Singer siblings used to be very close as kids but now as adults they haven't spent as much time together as they would have liked. So their fathers last wishes somewhat shock them, but the aim is to bring them back together as a family, in order to get their full inheritance.
The siblings are all rather different there is the ambitious one, the dull one, the party animal one and the married one - well based on first impressions at any rate, until you get to know them as the story progresses and I found they were a wonderful group of siblings.
What I loved most as the animal sanctuary and the stories behind all the various animals staying there, such a varied menagerie of creatures looking for new homes. They were all adorable and it was hilarious to see how the privileged Singer's were going to get their hands dirty in the day to day running of the sanctuary.
There is plenty of drame to keep everyone entertained, some completely hilarious moments often involving the "celebrity" who is used to help drum up publicity, and is a heart warming story of family loyalty, relationships and new beginnings.
Thank you to Avon and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
Feel good, escape from reality, laugh out loud book.
Their mother died years ago and their father just died. The Singer siblings as adults are no longer a close knit group as they were during their childhood. There are 4 siblings, 2 men and 2 women. Listening to their father's pre-will they are stunned. They must all live together in their childhood home without their spouses for a year with no jobs and only a small allowance. Now this is what I think is the unrealistic part. They must all agree to do it to or the will is void. Their father wants them to recapture their childhood closeness. The father has quite a bit of money . He has a manor, elaborate gardens and an animal sanctuary on his property that is extremely important to him . They must run the sanctuary daily and raise quite a large sum of money fundraising in this year to support it and they are not allowed to donate their own money. It was fun reading about the different activities they did for the fundraising too. Can the Singer siblings pull it off live together for a year and fund raise this large sum of money? Read this fun book and find out.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book from Avon Books UK through NetGalley. All opinions expressed are my own.
A relaxing, light read from Faith Bleasdale. Enjoyable 'Chic Lit' if you need an escape for a short time! However, a fair suspension of reality is needed as far as the storyline is concerned and indeed the heroine. It's a 'nice' read but, perhaps, a little too far removed from the real world for me.
Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. A light and fluffy read. Perfect for people who don’t have a lot of time/ people who want an easy read/ chicklit and romance fans.
I really loved this book! Excellent story with brilliant main characters. I would recommend this book.
Very enjoyable and fun to read! A really feel good book that keeps you interested till the end.
Recommended.
Many thanks to Avon Books and Netgalley
As soon as I saw the cover for this book and read the blurb I knew it was one that would be right up my street and I read it as soon as it arrived on my Kindle!
I really enjoyed the time that I was able to spend with the family and to be honest I am a sucker for any book that has a bit of an animal theme so it was always going to be a winner with me - a really nice relaxed writing style for the plot works brilliantly and it is such an easy read!!
4.5 stars from me rounded up to 5 for Goodreads and Amazon - a well written entertaining book!!
What a great story! Afte their father dies 4 siblings are set the challenge of putting their lives on hold and staying in the family manor for a year This brings challenges but will it bring them closer together? and what will happen when the year is out? A great story that kept me turning the pages.
I totally enjoyed this book. It was my first by this author so I didn't know what to expect. There are four main characters in this along with their families so there are many characters but not to be mistaken or confused by because it's well wrote.
There's meadowbrook manor where all four siblings grew up with their mum and Dad and over time mum dies and then their dad has suddenly died. Harriet works on the trade florlor in NYC and hasn't been hone since she left many years ago. She only skyped her family on ocassions. Then there's Gus her brother who she got on well with and Freddie the party goes of the family and Pippa who is married to mark.
When the dad dies there's a pre will to live together for a whole year and hand in their credit cards and are given are small fee of £40 per week. How will they survive? Everything for the house gardens and food is taken care off but me money isn't somewhat scarce.
Harriet looses her job and the man she's seeing. Her old feelings for Connor 're appear which were the cause of her leaving to go to NY. Freddie is with some celeb. His has his daughter weekends who is sweet and growing up fast.
Harriet sees something snot quite right with pippas hubby and overheard many conversations between him and Freddie partner who want to break the family apart and take what isn't theirs... the money. Harriet has to tell them and they don't believe her. So there's twists and tales running the animal sanctuary on the land and it's magical. I loved all the characters.
A really good read.
Thank you to netgalley
Harriet Singer has just returned to Meadowbrook Manor for the funeral of her father. She has lived in New York for the past ten years and was unaware that her father was ill as are her three siblings. Their father has left a video recording for them stipulating that they spend a year at Meadowbrook Manor and take care of the animal sanctuary he has founded to be entitled to their inheritance.
Harriet and her siblings start to bond together to carry out their father’s wishes but there are outside influences trying to throw them of course. Can Harriet keep them on the right track and become a family again or will the outsiders come between them?
A lighthearted entertaining book which is worth reading.
Following the death of their father, the 4 Singer siblings are required to live together for a year in order to get their inheritance. They had drifted apart as a family and this is their fath's last chance to try and make them reconcile.
Each have their own issues, but the book centres of Harriet, who has been living in New York. Can she, as the older sibling, bring the family back together and stay that way?
A nice story of a family coming together and starting to realise what and who is important in life. Novels where houses are passed down or inheritances given according to a series of rules, are full of surprises and this is no exception. Would you live with your awkward family members for a year in the hope you will save the house from being sold? If that involves the level of looking after animals that this book does then yes I would - at least you could spend more time with the animals rather than the humans! But I digress, this is a fun read with some issues to think about. Sometimes people just need their heads knocking together and it takes one family member to do it.
Wish the animal sanctuary and Manor House were real as I would book a holiday there for real asap. It sounds and feels idyllic. The ideal setting for a novel like this.
