The Hokey Cokey will never be the same again!!!
I’m a relatively new super-fan of Holly Martin and I am currently happily reading as many books by her in the shortest amount of time as is humanly possible.
Having read this mini series in slightly the wrong order, I found myself desperate to read Dougie and Eden’s story. Having shared a bond since childhood and following that “KISS” before Dougie left for the USA, Eden and Dougie have been the closest of friends over the last 12 years but their friendship has been at a cost, especially to Eden.
Eden felt cruelly rejected by Dougie after their kiss at Mistletoe Cove, the night before he told her he was moving to the USA with his family. Since then Eden has been unable to commit to any relationship let alone fall in love. I mean how could she, her heart belongs to Dougie and only Dougie. It’s impossible for Eden to even attempt to move on especially with Dougie’s daily messages, constant visits and overly affectionate nature. I mean, what’s not to love. Dougie is everyone's dream man.
When Dougie announces that he’s returning to Hope Island, all of Eden’s friends, family and the rest of the islanders know that he’s coming home to Eden but with Eden’s heart still in tatters, Dougie has a near impossible task on his hands if he intends to move their friendship towards a relationship. With his plots and plans though, Dougie does everything in his power to win Eden’s heart but will Eden be able to move on from her previous heartbreak and let Dougie love her, unconditionally?
This really was a special book which combined heartbreak, sadness, hope and sheer determination, on Dougie’s part. Eden was one tough nut to crack and despite throwing everything he has in his emotional arsenal at Eden, she continually refuses to accept that they can find their HEA together. Imagine a length of rope, dropped on the floor and coiled with twists, turns and impossible knots and that will give you an idea of how complicated Dougie and Eden’s love life is.
Holly’s writing style is both captivating and endearing. You can’t help but lose reading hours at the hands of her storytelling abilities and am I yet to find a book by her that I haven’t fallen 100% in love with. I just wish that I could step into the pages of her books myself!
In the vein as most Holly Martin books, this was a light-hearted and cute Christmas love story. You know from the very first chapter WHAT will happen...you just don't know HOW it will happen. Which is fine. Sometimes the journey is the best part. There aren't many surprises here; just a sweet love story.
The most gorgeous festive novel, just as you'd expect from Holly Martin who seems to produce them reliably. It takes us back to the Scilly Isles and Hope Island, as featured in Spring at Blueberry Bay and Summer at Buttercup Beach.,
This is the story of the final sibling in the Lancaster family, Eden. The owner of a pottery painting cafe on the island., she has been in love with her best friend Dougie since she was a little girl. Dougie broke her heart when he left to move to New York aged 18 but he has announced that he is returning to live on the island once more and Eden is torn between delight at having him close by and frustration about her unrequited feelings.
Dougie's arrival turns Eden's world upside down and the book explores the way in which their relationship shifts against a Christmas backdrop, with a truly magical touch. The emotional connection between Eden and Dougie has been there since they were tiny children but this has to alter and grow if they can make a successful life together. Eden and Dougie are lovely characters and I think Dougie is one of my favourite male leads in a while. He has a wonderful childlike quality about him which makes him very likable. You'll root for this couple from the very start.
I genuinely loved this book. It's a real one-sitting read and I enjoyed a peaceful couple of hours curled up with it today. It's delightful in parts and will make you smile but the end brought me to happy tears as the Hope Island trilogy came to a close (although I'd love to see Rome, Bella and Eden revisited at some point by Holly Martin). This is a sexy, funny, passionate novel which is truly enjoyable and will get any reader into the Christmas spirit.
Christmas at Mistletoe Cove was such a delightful read, I thoroughly enjoyed it, fell in love with Eden and Dougie, they made the perfect couple, love Holly Martin's style of writing her writing gets better and better with beautiful book covers to go with the perfect story to cosy up with!
My festive reading isn't complete without diving in to novel full of love, romance, snow and sparkle from Holly Martin.
Christmas at Mistletoe Cove certainly delivers and rounds up this series from Holly perfectly - if your new to the series if give the right about of back story to enable it to be read as a stand alone novel, If you have read the previous two, Spring at Blueberry Bay and Summer at Buttercup Beach, then Holly provides just enough info to refresh your memory from Bella and Issac and Rome and Freya's stories.
Christmas at Mistletoe Cove is the story I have been waiting for, we met Eden, Bella and Rome's sister previously, and we have also been introduced to to Dougie, Rome and Issac's friend in snippets of the books too - we also know that Eden is head over heels in love with Dougie, who happens to be her best friend and has been for as long as she can recall.
Christmas at Mistletoe Cove starts with Eden nervously awaiting Dougie's arrival back on Hope Island, after 12 years away living and working in America, he has decided to come home.
Eden and Dougie are the best of friends, during his visits to the island they do everything together but Eden is very guilty of hiding her true feelings and having to deal with her heart breaking a little bit every time the holiday is over, and now he is coming home for good, as much as she is excited, she is nervous - they are very affectionate as friends and despite all the islanders believing their feelings are mutual, Eden is convinced that Dougie doesn't feel the same.
Dougie convinces Eden to meet him at Mistletoe Cove, and to write down three wishes before releasing them for the the magic of the cove to do it's thing.
Thinking its a load of nonsense, Eden does as she is asked to humour him but when one of her wishes comes true within 24 hours she starts to wonder.
As the second comes true, Eden goes from believing to having even more doubt and even tells herself that Dougie is doing all these nice romantic things because he is under a spell, when in truth all he want do do is make her dreams and wishes come true - what a man!
What follows is a well throughout story of two people very much in love trying a little too hard to make each other happy, when actually them just being together is more than enough for both of them.
Eden tries to correct her wishes, but breaks Dougie's heart in the process and the story I thought would be completely lovey dovey actually made me question whether these two could resolve their issues.
As with all Holly's books, the characters are ones that you instantly connect with, and even though this was Eden and Dougie's story it was nice seeing how both Bella and Issac and Rome and Freya had moved on in the last couple of month is gorgeous sub plots.
Hope Island is just as idyllic at Christmas as it was in Spring and Summer, with Holly capturing the readers imagination and allowing them to lose themselves for a few hours.
Christmas at Mistletoe Cove is Holly Martin at her best, full of romance, snow and magic.
Having read and loved Spring at Blueberry Bay and Summer at Buttercup Beach, I could not wait to read Holly's newest book Christmas at Mistletoe Cove as I knew it would be a wonderful read and I wasn't wrong.
I loved being able to return to the Scilly Isles, and to meet up with previous characters Bella, Isaac, Rome and Freya to discover how they were all getting on and what was new with each of them, but also I was excited to finally be able to read Eden & Dougie's story in this book.
I loved this story, it was perfectly delightful and heartwarming, definately made me feel all Christmassy whilst reading all the festive moments throughout the story. It made me want to be there experiencing it all myself.
Oh and I totally fell in love with Dougie, he's such a romantic and the things he did for Eden, made me want him as my own boyfriend, I'm not jealous at all lol.
Everything about this book is perfect, it was well written, the characters are all wonderful and the setting/location just made you want to be there for real. Highly recommended book.
If you haven't read any of Holly Martin's books yet, then don't delay any more, as you are missing out. Holly is an amazing author and she has such a way with words that just makes her stories truly magical and come alive.
Holly really does write the best love stories ever!! Eden and Dougie have both played parts in the other two books in the series and I'm so pleased Holly gave them a book of their own. As always it's nice that previous characters are kept up to date with. You can always rely on Holly for a fantastic face hurting from smiling so much story and a fantastic book cover which was what drew me to Hollis books in the first place. Can not wait to see what you write next Holly!
When Eden's childhood friend Dougie returns to Hope Island after living in New York, Eden can't help but hope to get her happy ever after especially as the pair act loving around each other.
Eden runs a pottery cafe so with her friend whilst watching her cousin/sister get wedding plans in order hoping that she has I'll once day be with Dougie after a failed relationship with Stephen for not being him.
There's wedding drama, baby issues, snowman building contests and the mythical history of Mistletoe Cove including wishes that can come true as Dougie and Eden's desires all might just come true...
Holly is a favourite author of mine and this book as her latest one to come along doesn't disappoint at all. It's a magical and sweet romance between reunited sweethearts who've known each other their whole lives. If you love a good old love story with a Disney mystic edge this one is perfect for you this winter!
Many thanks to the publishers for allowing me to review this book for them!
It certainly isn't Christmas unless there is a Holly Martin book, and this has surpassed expectations. Dougie is one of the most romantic heroes that I have read about, and it was only a few pages in when I fell head over heels in love with him.
Eden has been in love with Dougie all of her life, and she is half dreading his permanent return to Hope Island as he has never expressed interest in her in that way. Yet within a few days of his return Dougie was like a man on a mission to make Eden fall in love with him.
There is even plenty of wooing (don't recall the last time I read about some good old romantic wooing!), and some remarkably impressive gestures as Dougie attempts to make all of Eden's wishes and dreams come true.
This is the sort of book that not only will turn a cynic into a romantic, but also into a believer of fairy dust and magical wishes. Mistletoe Cover besides having an incredibly Christmassy sounding name is just a fabulous cove that plays a huge part in Eden and Dougie's story.
The festive feeling is very present in this book, with the week long Christmas festival on the island. I loved the couples snowman building competition, the mince pie flavoured pancakes were inventive and anything with sleigh rides and Christmas gifts is a winner for me!
This is the third book set on Hope Island, and can easily be read as a standalone. The focus is on Eden and Dougie and fans of the previous two books will be delighted to see the continuation of Bella and Freya's stories too.
Fully of romance, wishes, beautiful setting, great friendship, and just all around great feelings, this is a wonderful story that was a delight to read. I'm just worried that future book boyfriends won't measure up to Dougie, in terms of thoughtfulness and all around sex appeal!
Christmas at Mistletoe Cove is simply wonderful and whether you curl up with some mulled wine, or read it in the middle of summer, it is a story well worth reading and enjoying, if you like loveable characters and a big helping a romance!
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this copy which I have read honestly and voluntarily.
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publishers, Bookouture, for this review copy. Also thank you to Kim for the opportunity to be part of the blog tour for this book!
Christmas at Mistletoe Bay is the 3rd book in the Hope Island series. You don’t need to have read the other books of the series, but obviously it does help to understand the stories of the characters.
The first two books of the series concentrated on the stories of Bella and Isaac, and Freya and Rome. This book is devoted to Eden! Eden has lived on Hope Island all her life. She has also been in love with her childhood friend, Dougie, for most of her life also. He’s never shown any interest in her romantically, apart from one kiss many years before at Mistletoe Bay, after which he left to live in New York. Dougie has now returned from New York for good. Eden hopes that her dreams are finally going to come true and they can live happily ever after.
I love Holly Martin’s books, and have read all of this series. It was lovely to finally get to Eden’s story! All of the characters appears in all of the books, so by the time I’ve got to this book, you already know them so well. This was also my first Christmas book of the year, but to be honest I didn’t see it as a Christmas book – I was so busy being caught up in Eden and Dougie’s romance that I forgot it was even based at Christmas! – so for all those who are saying that it’s too early to read a Christmas book, this is the ideal one to ease you in gently!!
As normal in all of Holly’s books, the male lead is absolutely gorgeous, handsome and the ideal man! I’ve said it about Isaac and Rome in the previous two books, and whilst we have met Dougie in both of those books, you see him in a different light in this instalment! He’s loving, thoughtful, considerate and downright hot! Do they only have men like this in the Scilly Isles?? If so, perhaps I should have moved there years ago!! ;-) As usual, the course of true love never runs smoothly, but you know there is always going to be a happy ending!!
This is a story of love, friendship, romance and sex! Also thrown in is some magical glittery Christmas fairy dust…..what more could you want in a book! The setting is perfect, the characters are perfect and the story is perfect. Don’t leave this book till Christmas, read it now!!
Five Stars!
