We need light hearted reads in between the heavy stuff and this romantic comedy fitted
the bill.

We have Darcy (a girl for a change) partner in a hedge fund returning home after years.
A acrimonius separation from her parents, which has gone on for too long. Meeting friends
after a long time, pushed into an engagement by over eager parents, Darcy is wondering how
to extricate herself from this tangle she has herself woven, without hurting those involved
too much.

A Christmassy novel with a lot going on - not the usual variation being offered.

A very gentle read - a bit like watching a hallmark movie and I did like the idea of swapping the genders around. It was very festive and a gentle read for Christmas but personally I found it lack a little something. It was a little over the place too in some cases. It needs refining I'd say!

A cosy, christmassy retelling of one of my all time favourite books. Melissa de la Cruz does a great job with this festive retelling

This was the first book I've read from this author and I enjoyed it very much. It was very well written and the characters were well thought out.

I'm afraid I didn't enjoy this book at all, I skim read it in 2 days. The opening was too rushed and had no backstory until too far into the book. It felt all rushed and a little unrealistic. I didn't enjoy the storyline at all and I'm sorry but she did seem a snob with the amount of money she earned, she didn't know what to do with it all. I won't let it put me off looking out for another one of her books but I'm afraid this one didn't cut it for me. Thank you for letting me read and review this book.

In this title the classic plot of Pride and Prejudice is turned on its head. Darcy is a woman returning to her home town for Christmas following her mother's heart attack. The Bennets are male characters with Darcy falling for Luke, whilst she is juggling a relationship with her boyfriend she doesn't want to commit to. Darcy's relationship with her father has seen her stay away from home for a number of years and the marriage her family want her to make to an eligible man has driven a wedge between them.
I love P&P it is one of my favourite books and I have read quite a few variations of the plot over the years - this is a good seasonal read but I think it works too hard to be different to the original. Darcy has many of the characteristics of the male hero in P&P but the Bennets don't really work. They are not that rounded character wise - or is the sharpness of Lizzy's rejoinders seen differently when it is a man saying them? An ok read

A light-hearted, fun read. I actually enjoyed reading this book more than I thought I would. Very pleasantly surprised.

This was a little disappointing. I very much enjoy reading Pride and Prejudice and was looking forward to this retelling but I found it fell a little flat and at time was very awkward. I wasn't a fan at all I'm afraid.

Usually a fan of adaptations of Pride and Prejudice, this book really didn't grab me at all. The main character is particularly unlikeable and it's just very slow going.

The plot is quite clever, but Darcy did get rather annoying at times.

A gender swapped version of the classical tale. This updated version of Pride and Prejudice didn’t quite grab my attention as I felt the original elements of the story were somewhat shoe-horned in. Still a Christmassy diversion, thanks NetGalley!

I love a bit of Christmas fiction and was looking forward to the aspect of Pride and Prejudice getting an update in New York City with the characters being switched a bit. Light, festive, fun read.

Pride and Prejudice and Mistletoe is a standalone by Melissa De La Cruz and is described as ‘a romantic, feel-good and festive retelling of Pride and Prejudice, perfect for Christmas’.

“Do you want to spend the rest of your life with someone who you get along with perfectly well but you’re not in love with, or would you rather be alone until the love of your life shows up? There’s pros and cons to both, my dear.” - Edward

I was really looking forward to reading this book as I love modern-day adaptations of ‘the classics’ and couldn't wait to see what direction the author took such a popular story in. Sadly, I felt the story was rushed and a lot happened in such a short space of time. This book focused very heavily on Darcy Fitzwilliam who tended to over think everything and I really struggled not to dislike her in some parts due to how she treated people. I also would've liked to see more of Luke Bennet who we don't learn very much about despite him being a key character in the story.

However, I do feel this book has the potential to be even better if it were longer and the characters were given more time to show their true selves. It would work well with Darcy and Luke being given their own chapters so we can get both points of view. It could also be turned into the first book of a series with remaining books focusing on the siblings of Darcy and Luke. I'd definitely like to learn more about Bingley and Jim!

I'm awarding this book 4 stars because it's not an easy task when adapting a book like Pride and Prejudice but Melissa De La Cruz took on the challenge. The author also uses beautifully crafted words to describe what Darcy can see and I was able to really visualise the Christmas decorations and the glass gazebo in the Fitzwilliam’s garden. I also love the modern-day concept that the author came up with and how the characters were given the potential to come into their own rather than being carbon copies of the characters from the classic story.

Her mother’s heart attack forces Darcy Fitzwilliams to go back home to Pemberley, Ohio, after eight years of absence. She became estranged from her family when she declared she didn’t want to marry her childhood sweetheart and settle in the family town, so she moved to New York and proved to the world and her family that she could make it on her own. But now, back at home, she feels she still needs to prove something to her family and to the town. At the family Christmas party she reconnects with her best friend Bingley, but the person who really gets to her is Luke Bennett, her enemy in high school. She still doesn’t like him so why did she kiss him under the mistletoe?

I usually like modern adaptations of Pride and Prejudice, one of my favourite books, but I can’t say I enjoyed this one, which has a gender-swap twist. The characters are shallow, unlikable, and completely different from the originals, everything is over-explained, and the story is ridiculous. Everything happens very quickly, in ten days, including a good number of engagement, break-ups, reconciliations, and flights to and from New York. If you are looking for a great new version of Pride and Prejudice, unfortunately I don’t think you will find it here.

Lovely read. Interesting, with a good mix of characters and feel good read. Loved the cover which drew me in.

I enjoyed the book, both reading it and working out which character was which.
The story of Darcy Fitzwilliam and Luke Bennett. Clever twist in the plot and having a female Darcy.

I was looking forward to this one after reading the books blurb but sadly it didn't quite meet up to the billing and I can only give the book 3 stars. The story was ok but it wasn't very exciting and it did take a fair while to get started. The characters whilst nice, seemed a little 'flaky' at times. I'd class this as an 'good' read, but it didn't set me one fire.

I was really excited for this (christmas, Austen, rule 63 is the golden intersection) but it just didn't work for me. Darcy is a great romantic lead, because he's quite aloof and not in scenes much, so he gets away with being awkward and quiet. For Darcy to be the main character just doesn't work, because (s)he just comes across as . . . mean. Which is the wrong interpretation of Darcy anyway, because he's shy, not actually an awful person. I couldn't get past that, unfortunately. Even though a female Darcy: I am here for that. Just not this one.
