A very unusual story and a great read. Two tales one present, one past eventually we see where they come together. Good multi faceted characters.

Her Frozen Heart revolves around two women who have become widows but set in different time periods, the 1940’s and the present day.

Caitlyn is married to Patrick, she feels they have a good marriage until Partick is tragically killed in a car crash on the way home from a business trip. Sara is Caitlyn’s best friend and she is absolutely devastated about Patrick’s death. Caitlyn cannot understand why Sara is so upset until Sara starts to drop hints about her and Patrick’s relationship. Caitlyn feels she needs to get away from Sara so moves herself and her son Max to Oxford, unfortunately for Caitlyn, Sara follows her.

Tommy is a war widow who is facing a harsh winter, she is trying to keep her family fed and warm in the aftermath of war. She has been keeping the family home. Kings Harcourt Manor running with very little provisions and very little help. Her brother has returned home from war with his friend Fred, Tommy also takes in an old school acquaintance Barbara, who at first seems to be sweet but as time goes on she causes trouble within Tommy’s family.

This is an interesting storyline, it intertwines the past and present culminating in an excellent ending. The book has an interesting mixture of characters, Caitlyn and Tommy are both likeable, while Patrick and Sara are the complete opposite. This is an entertaining book which I thoroughly enjoyed reading.

I am a bit stuck with what to say with this book, and not in a negative way!

I absolutely loved this book, I couldn’t read it fast enough and lost an entire nights sleep as i just couldn’t find a place to stop reading for the night! I tried twice, putting it down, turning the lights out but my brain just didn’t want to switch off so in the end i gave in trying and just finished the book 🙂

If you have read any of Lulu Taylor’s other books then you will love this one. I personally think this is her best book so far by a mile. And I have read all her books to date.

You really need a nice cuppa tea and a duvet day to escape into a very cold, very snowy dual time line mystery, with a touch of winter romance of course! You may even like me be in need of a tissue or two! And i don’t cry easily at anything! There are very few books that have genuinely made me cry, Watership Down, Black Beauty, Wuthering Heights and Anne Victoria Roberts books, Lousia Elliot and Liams Story. Those two are my go too books if i feel low, and now this one 🙂

The story is set over two different time periods with 2 main protagonists, Tommy in 1947 and Caitlyn in the present day.

Both women find themselves young widows with children to raise on their own and both women are still dealing with their own demons.

The book is full of intrigue and atmosphere and transports you back to the big freeze on 1947, the rations they were subjected to, even rations on electricity.

The plot twists between the two different women and entwines their story wonderfully, and just when you think you know what is coming, there is a twist so out the blue and unexpected taking you down an entirely different path.

I can’t say too much as i don’t want to ruin it for anyone else, but it really is a wonderful surprising book that you lose yourself in.

This book will be published on 30th November 17 in the UK

Her Frozen Heart tells the story of two women living very similar lives in two very different time periods. Tommy, a recent widow, is struggling through the winter of 1947 and Caitlyn also a recent widow is living in the modern day. The story flits between the two and reveals a fascinating storyline of controlling men and manipulative women.
I thought this book was beautifully written with amazing attention to detail. I genuinely couldn't put this book down especially as each of the plots unfolded. Great book!

This story is set over two different timelines which I enjoyed but I found it took me a while to get in to the plot. It wasn't until quite a bit later in to the book that the link between the two timelines becomes apparent, so this may be why I found it a little slow. The further I got through the more I enjoyed it, especially towards the finale with Sara. It was well written and I found myself not wanting to put it down until I'd found out what was going to happen to Caitlyn and Sara. An author I would read again for sure.

Her Frozen Heart, Lulu Taylor

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre: Women's fiction, Romance

My first read from Lulu Taylor and though the writing style was perfect for me I did think to begin that I wasn't going to enjoy this story.
It seemed each time I got into what was happening in the life of Caitlyn or Tommy the chapter would leave them and go to the other one. It took a while before the two stories seemed to gel for me, I couldn't see the connection and frustrated myself trying to work it out.

Once I really got into it though I loved it and slowly I found myself drawn into the main characters lives.
Loved Caitlyn, and so felt for her when her so called friend Sara began to stir up her memories of the past. she really was a first class bitch, and she was very true to type - I've met people like her, emotional vampires, always desperate for approbation and attention from their freinds, but never really happy, ready to use, discard, seduce anyone who can get them on the next rung of what they see as their right, regardless of who gets hurt.
Poor Tommy found someone like that intruding in her life, not by choice but foisted upon her, when her good nature made it impossible to say No.
I loved Tommy, she'd been through so much. I wanted to know Why was her mother so sniping, so sneering of Tommy's past.
I admired her so much for her determination, her hard work in protecting those she saw as hers, her family and close freinds, she had a very hard job keeping things run during the war when everyone was facing shortages.

Its like another world reading about how they lived during the war and yet it happened, and that's exactly how people managed to get by.
Talking to my grandkids recently we touched on the 3 day week, electricity rationing, petrol rationing during the 70s and they were astonished. Seems incredible to think of it now but that's how it was, and like Tommy and family we just got on with life, managed as best we can.
I think its hard for those who haven't experienced that kind of mass shortages, the time when flicking a switch doesn't bring lights on, TV on etc.

Its a great read, not a heart stopping must-keep-reading book, but one where you can put it to one side, pick up a day later and within a few lines you're back immersed in the world of the characters within the book. Now I know the story I don't think its one I'd reread but its definately a five star read.
I loved the way the stories got closer to the end and then the surprises revealed when everything comes to a head.

Stars: five, a really enjoyable, satisfying read.

I have to admit, it did take me a while to read this book, I almost felt like there were two stories within it that would have been perfectly good books on their own and probably easier to manage. It wasn't until about two thirds through the book that the link between the two stories became more apparent and I think this is what made it drag a little. That being said, both back stories on their own were great and I was hooked to find out exactly what was going on. I felt that after all that though, the ending was rushed.

This is the first oh Tailor's books I have read and I can see I will have to track down the others. Told in the past and the present from the POVs of two women who have lost their husbands, this is a novel about disillusionment and recreating a life for yourself - with plenty of tantalising connections between the two narratives. Personally I enjoyed Tommy's arc slightly more - I found the way Caitlyn was prepared to accept aspects of Patrick's behavior quite irritating, although it certainly rang true - plus the descriptions of post WWII Britain have always fascinated me. A thoroughly enjoyable and intelligent mystery story.

Her Frozen Heart by Lulu Taylor.
A story about two women one in the 1940 and the other in present day. Both women have now become widows and are struggling to cope with grief, family and getting on with life. There are lots of strange things going on in both stories and there were quite a few unlikeable character. I would like to thank NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is an atmospheric seasonal read from Lulu Taylor revolving around two women in different time periods who have lost their husbands, facing mysteries and betrayal. In the desperately bleak winter of 1947, Tommy Carter has faced the loss of her husband at the beginning of World War Two. Life is hand to mouth and harsh for all that live at Kings Harcourt Manor as Tommy shoulders the burdens of having to provide for her family, lightened only by the joy of her children, and her brother's friend, Fred. Additionally, there is the strange presence of Barbara, a woman with an agenda of her own. Tommy is a woman with secrets from the past.

In the present day, Caitlyn is mourning the sudden death of her beloved husband, Patrick, when a traumatising accident has her retreating to the old manor in Oxford with her son, Max. Caitlyn has always believed her marriage was good, and has counted her blessings that Patrick never became enamoured with her best friend, the beautiful Sara. She thinks she knows Patrick and Sara. However, her illusions are shattered as the secret life of the ghastly and manipulative Patrick tumbles forth.

There are a number of connections between the two stories such as the similarity of the characters of Patrick and Barbara. There is an underlying air of menace in the novel and oodles of intrigue. My favourite storyline was the one featuring Tommy, the author gives us detailed descriptions of post war Britain, class, fashion, the rigid cultural norms, and the differing expectations and judgements of men and women. I was surprised with what Caitlyn was prepared to tolerate from Patrick, although intimate personal relationships are often a minefield, even in the modern era. This is a light and entertaining novel, perfect for this time of the year. Many thanks to PanMacmillan for an ARC.

An interesting take on how lives can mimic each other and also find a common link. Tommy's story is set in 1947 while Caitlin's life is set in the present day yet they both have to fight to keep their lives intact when someone seeks to take what is theirs. I really enjoyed this book and how the two stories entwined. Fascinating was the description of life during the great freeze of 1947 - I hadn't realised how severe that winter was even though my mum was a baby at the time and never left the house for the first 6 months of her life! A great read that I would highly recommend.

This is a brilliant book , set in the past and the present. In the 1940's there is Tommy a war widow struggling to survive with her family in an enormous country pile , during a freezing cold winter when they are snowed in .She also has to cope as well with an old school acquaintance that has invited herself to stay with her daughter and is trying to cause trouble .In the present time there is Caitlyn a recent widow who is struggling to come to terms with her husband suddenly dying has a son called Max and a friend called Sara who seems to be a viper in the nest. Her husband Patrick seems most unpleasant and is trying to control her even from the grave .I loved both stories which tied up very well .The book was also very atmospheric I loved it if I could give it 10 stars I would .

Brilliant, gripping psychological thriller. Set between the past and present with lots of lies, secrets and suspense. I also enjoyed Snow Rose from the same author.

I really enjoyed this book set in two different periods of time which came together as the book proceeded. I usually read crime thrillers so this was a refreshing change for me even though I could have willingly killed two of the characters. Thank you for the ARC in my opinion it was very near to a 5*

I am not normally a fain of books set in different times as it can get confusing however this book gripped me early on and it was worth it. It really demonstrates the impact of time on occurrences and how there are different characters in every day walks of life.

A novel of two timelines where for me the one set in the past was much more interesting than the present day. The manor house, the snow which isolated all of its inhabitants a mystery of a painting.... the war has done damage to the men of this village and its effects are felt for many years to come. When it weaves into present day, event come full circle and it's an interesting story . The painting and what would happen to that is nicely done.

The present day timeline for me wasn't as strong with an errant husband and a woman named Sara which seemed disjointed from the overall story. When Caitlyn moves to Oxford, her search for the truth intensified and the book picks up pace and interest.

Not a booktrail book in the sense that the locations are only loosely mentioned, fictional or not vital to the story, but I would love to go to Kings Court Manor!

This book is a tale of two stories set in different times, a chapter in each. With some books written this way there is favour to one tale, in this book this is not the case. Both stories and warm, rich and full of atmosphere. The characters are fun and really likeable. I did not want this tale to end, reading this each evening was like coming home. The stories entwined and I was intrigued to find out how they were linked.. loved this warm interesting read
