Set in New York at Christmas time, this second chance romance will not disappoint. This clean romance has something for everyone, medical, cute kids and a dog. It’s well written and the characters are great. I’m loving the cute cover too.
I got my copy as an EARC on Netgalley as part of being a Mills & Boon Insider. I was pleasantly surprised by this. It read a lot like an episode of medical drama and I was totally okay with that. It wasn't too smutty or over the top and I enjoyed just sinking into the story and forgetting about the world for a while.
Rating: ★★★
This story centres on Grace and Charles. They knew each other and competed for marks against each other at medical school. One night they got talking and then for reasons unknown to Grace at that time, he stopped talking to her.
They went their separate ways after medical school, both have suffered but now they are working in the same hospital department. As they work together and get to know each other again, the chemistry that they had at medical school rekindles. Can they get past their own suffering and realise that it is not too late.
A lovely story, with great characters that appeal, are well written and that you care about.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is wanting a really lovely read. Would be perfect to read in the run up to Christmas, with the curtains closed, the Christmas tree lights on, a lovely fire crackling in the hearth, a cup of hot chocolate and some Christmas cookies to munch on.
This is a book to fall in love with this Christmas.
Charles and graces connection with each other leaves you wondering what it might have been all those years ago but heartache and tragedy have bought them back to each other and at Christmas it’s beautiful left me longing for more x
The two main characters in this book, Grace and Charles first met at medical school where the attraction was very strong. After spending their first night together, a family problem means Charles disappeared without an explanation. Years later, Grace gets a job at Manhattan Mercy hospital only to discover that Charles is her boss. He is now a widower with small twin boys, his wife having died from complications during the childbirth. Grace is a divorcee; her husband divorcing her because she had breast cancer that meant she was unable to have children. As Grace is having trouble finding suitable accommodation, Charles arranges for her to house and dogsit for a couple in his apartment building. Their close proximity leads to them spending a lot of time together, particularly when she looks after the children. The attraction is still there...
I won't give any more spoilers as this is a delightful book that I can thoroughly recommend. You will not be disappointed...well only because it isn't longer!
I like second chance stories like this because not only do the characters have to deal with whatever happened between them previously but they also have to discover who each of them has become since they last met. Grace and Charles have both been through some massive life events since their single night of passion years before and this sensitively written story shows how easy it is to make assumptions about people rather than taking the time and patience to let them show you their truths. The author dealt with every aspect of this story with great empathy and even minor characters who only appear for a few pages were written with such insight (Mary in particular) that the reader is pulled further into the main protagonists' lives. Beautifully written.
It was a really sweet heartwarming story about 2 characters who initially met each other whilst they were qualifying as doctors. Grace and Charles had a fling in those days but following a family scandal breaking in Charles family they lost contact.
When Grace starts at Manhattan Mercy ER after several years the spark between them still exists although they've both suffered in the years they were apart. They have a lovely easy relationship where they can just talk and enjoy the simple things in life.
I loved Grace's time with the cute twins, imagining the mess they made whilst making cookies and the cosy snuggles on the sofa with Horse the dog.
The romance is there along with a cosy family feel. I could have just read on and on, enjoying every page..
I really enjoyed this story...the fact Grace and Charles had a history made it easier to believe in the feelings they had for each other. Charles kids were adorable, and the author did a fab job of portraying their fears and worries, due to their past..I love Christmas stories and this is one I will remember
Grace Forbes had the most passionate night of her life with Charles Davenport years ago when they were in university together training to be doctors. After that one night, circumstances meant that Charles didn't get in touch with Grace again. Broken hearted she moved on but it was still a shock to her system when now, years later she takes a new job only to find that Charles works in the same hospital.
A lot has happened in the years they have been apart. Grace has been married and divorced and has battled breast cancer. Charles has married but is a widow after his wife died giving birth to his twin sons. One thing hasn't changed for Grace and Charles and that is their attraction to each other. Could they have a second chance at love, or have they both got too much emotional baggage which could keep them apart.
I really enjoy a second chance at love story and this one was just beautiful. The setting in New York, with trips to Central Park, was a pleasure to read for this reader who lives in the UK and only dreams of visiting New York. I really enjoyed the medical side of the story too with some great patient stories being mentioned. One particular one was very emotional, but to keep the story light there were plenty of scenes involving Charles' twins that had me smiling. Another thing that I really enjoyed about this story is that when it came to the couple having 'relations' it was all done behind closed doors. Despite that, the author managed to fully relay just how passionate the couple were for each other, very nicely done.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers' copy of this book.
The moment I started reading Charles and Grace's Story I was hooked. I didn't want to put it down as I was completely gripped. A story full of romance, hurt and a few secrets. This is perfectly set in the Big Apple itself with so much detail that I felt like I could picture this book playing in my mind like a movie. If you love romance and a good old happy ending where the boy gets the girl this is defiently for you. The best part is arguably the fact that this story is part of a series.
