Thank you so much for the opportunity to read this book. Unfortunately it is not for me and i have been unable to finish it. It felt like I was reading someone’s journal. As I don’t have anything constructive to say I will not post a review on Goodreads or retail websites.
Not for me I'm afraid. I can appreciate that it might be helpful for others.
Well written but unfortunately I just couldn't finish it.
I love this. The title alone caught me but the book is great. Depression is something that is personal to anybody who suffers, and as i do, it hit the heartstrings. thank you for letting me read.
I Thought There Would Be Cake by Katharine Welby-Roberts is about faith and mental health issues such as anxiety.
I was drawn to this based on a previous book that I'd read, also titled something along the lines of I Thought There Would Be Cake (the other one written by Sloane Crosley). While it has more of a religious vein than I had anticipated, Welby-Roberts' sharing of mental health struggles will be relatable to many readers. It is a quick and 'easy' read.
I did not finish this; I thought this was another kind of book - the self-help genre is not my cup of tea (with or without cake). It must have been the title that confused me, because I had the essays of Sloane Crosley in mind. Entiterely my fault, I guess. Even so, I’m rating this with three stars, because I can see it’ll be an interesting and helpful book to another reader than me.
Interesting, witty and helpful read! I would recommend to anyone experiencing depression.
When I spotted this book's title "I Thought There Would Be Cake," I knew I had to read it! I was intrigued because I could relate to it in some ineffable way. Katharine Welby-Roberts chose the perfect title to depict how she imagined her life would turn out. Welby-Robert's prose flows smoothly. Her voice is authentic, which is one of the strengths of this book. It's not easy to share one's vulnerabilities in the world and this author does so exceedingly well.
I Thought There Would Be Cake is an inspirational read. Funny, witty, thoughtful, it is a Christian book with many references to God and the Bible. While I am not religious, I enjoyed the stories and advice in this book.
As someone who suffers from a chronic illness, I could relate to a lot of what was being discussed in this book. What I liked about this book is that it shared helpful tips, without coming off as forceful and it handled difficult subjects with honesty, grace and even a little humor.
I enjoyed sitting down and reading this one.
