Nice book that I can recommend. Young widow with son growing up. Like most mothers who love their children, we can be overprotective. But taking steps to untie those fears must be taken. I found I liked the characters and story. A good choice.
This is my first book by Maggie Conway.
What I liked:
The characters
Standalone

I had a bit of a hard time finishing this book. It did not grab and hold my attention, but that is more about my preferences. I did finish the story and it leaves you with a warm feeling.
A lovely, albeit slightly predictable festive romance set in a beautiful Scottish location. Loved the characters and ticks the boxes if you’re looking for a quick chick-lit fix. Will certainly keep my eye out for more from Maggie Conway in the future. 3.5 Stars.
I liked this book for the most part. It was cute. I did however think it hopped around too often. Also, it didn't feel very christmasy which was disappointing since Christmas was in the description. I felt like it was rushed a bit as well.
Lovely book, the story of widow Eva learning to live again and her handsome new neighbour Ben who moves from London to Scotland for work.
Great read and look forward to more books from this author.
This was a nice, cozy read. I enjoyed the main characters. I loved the idea of Eva running a bed and breakfast. I wish there had been a little more interaction with Eva's family. You get to know a bit about them and see a peek into their lives and they actually had interesting stories. I thought the romance between Ben and Eva started off a little slow but considering Eva was a single widow and Ben was fresh out of relationship, that seemed pretty believable. Overall a good read.
The cover was lovely. I fell in love with the book. unfortunately it didnt carry on with the book. It wasnt for me. I found it very slow. Could have been a great book. But i just felt it got held back with her being a paranoid mother part put me off. sadly this one just wasnt for me
Just the thing to read when you are laid up in bed with a cold feeling sorry for yourself.
Eva Harris owns a small guest house in St Andrews, Scotland. She is a widow with a small son, Jamie and an unruly dog. Her beloved next door neighbours have moved to a smaller house and her new neighbour is a prickly single Englishman who rebuffs all of Eva's attempts to be neighbourly.
Ben Matthews has given up a life in the City earning megabucks to move to St Andrews where he has a job as a physics lecturer. He had planned to move with his girlfriend but at the last minute she decided a new glamorous job abroad was more interesting. Moving into a large family home that he had never even seen before seems like a huge mistake to Ben, he had visions of a family and a dog but instead he has a huge house that needs a lot of work and he is regretting his decision.
Despite his initial hostility, Eva and Ben soon become friends as their paths cross (often literally) often in such a small university town. First Eva is helping Ben to fix his central heating, then Ben is helping Jamie with his maths homework. But the past casts a long shadow and is Eva willing to risk her heart and put her trust in another man?
I liked this, it was heartwarming and gentle, I had house-envy for Eva and I'm madly jealous of her handyman skills, she and Ben were both such homebodies who wanted nothing more than family.
Thoroughly recommended second-chance romance, especially if you like small children and dogs!
