This was a fun duology. I really like Cecelia Ahern and was super excited to see she'd written a YA series. The first book is really fast-paced read, filled with twists and turns. The second book I liked a little less as the author reminds us repeatedly about things that happened in the first book, which is handy if you read the first book on release and then waited for the second book but when you're reading it one after the other, it's a bit annoying. Overall, a fast-paced, action-packed read.
Brilliant YA series. I have been looking for another great dystopian read and these were it. Chilling and gripping could not put them down.
Cecelia Ahern is an author that I had yet to read. I’d heard good things about her work mind you and knew there’d come a time where I would delve into one of her books. When I found out she had written her first Young Adult novel set in a Dystopian world, I knew I had to read it. I absolutely adore the Young Adult and Dystopian genres, so I knew that this was a book that I was going to love.
In Flawed, we follow Celestine North who has been living the perfect life. She’s popular, a model student at school and she’s dating Art Crevan, who’s rather charming and also handsome. Celestine’s perfect life isn’t all it seems though. She lives in a world where being imperfect or below par is frowned upon. If you so much as make one mistake you could be branded as ‘Flawed’ and become an outcast, hated by many, never to live the same life again. Celestine is certain this won’t happen to her, that is until one day she does something, changing her life as she knows it. She could be found to be Flawed, bringing her perfect life to a close.
I have to admit I found this story and the themes behind it to be highly original. I’d never read anything like it and it was a breath of fresh air for me. The idea of being imperfect or flawed really did make me think about what it would be like to live in a world where that is looked down upon. Nobody is perfect, so it also make me think about perfection in an entirety. All of the characters I met whilst reading, in my opinion all had imperfections, despite some of them being deemed as perfect.
Celestine was a heroine that I found hard to warm up to at the beginning. I found her to be slightly stuck up, set in her ways and very prejudice. However, in time as I discovered more about her and how she felt I grew to love her. In the end I found her to be strong willed, brave and accepting of her flaws. I feel like her character development was handled exceptionally well and I think she is going to be going in my favourite book heroines of all time list.
If I had to say anything negative about Flawed, it would be that it ended on such a cliffhanger! I was so into the story that when it ended I literally screamed. I know there is going to be a sequel though, which I cannot wait for. I am looking forward to learning more about the world and the ideas behind being flawed.
Flawed was honestly an amazing read. I was hooked from the first to last page and it’s just made my love for Young Adult Dystopian novels rise even higher. From what I read I wouldn’t have believed it was Cecelia Ahern’s first Young Adult Novel, it was that great.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this set of 2 books by Cecilia Ahern. Having read a number of her adult books I wasn't sure what to expect with young adult novels. I am glad I was proven wrong....they were great.
The books are based in a dystopian future when 'flawed' people are branded and then have to live a different life to those deemed as perfect around them.
The main character, who helps out a flawed old man, is branded and then classed as the most flawed person in history. Her story shows how she deals with this and how she fights back against this appalling regime.
This was a FANTASTIC duology. As a big fan of dystopian, I have read a huge amount of utopian/dystopian books. But this one blew me away. I read both of them in one day and in one sitting. They were fast paced and easy to follow. These books will be an incredible introduction to the genre for any young... or old adult.
I loved the 1st book and ditto with the second. This dystopian world reminds me of Margaret Atwood's Handmaids Tale and drags us through the ups and downs of being human with all of it's complex twists and turns. With reminders of how cruel and power hungry some can be, this book ultimately is about human kindness and decency winning out despite the odds. The storyline is fast pace and it is not very predictable -many are in this genre - which is great. I am glad that this series was only a two book as, often, I find that the authors drag the series out simply for that third book.
Thank you Netgalley for my review copy. Thoroughly enjoyed.
I like the style of Cecilia ahern books but this was a little different and her style is different too. However, she is attracting young teens for these books and this is why. Brilliant books.
Perfect. The usual girl living life so perfect and has always conformed to the rules she's to adhere to. However one day she doesn't and the world is against her. Then she decided to think differently to the way she's used to but does it work for her?
This is a great series and one for all girls of this age to read... it's about society and morals and how to be unique. Amazing
This dystopian duo is a departure from Cecelia Ahern’s usual style and is her first foray into the Young Adult genre. It follows Celestine North who lives by the Rules, she strives to be Perfect, because in Perfection is happiness.
What would it be like to live in a world that applauds perfection in all things? Behaviour is monitored closely, and slips of any kind are punished by the all powerful 'Guild', an organisation that sits outside of the law and makes decisions regarding an individual's suitability for inclusion in society. If The Guild deems an individual guilty they are branded (quite literally) as Flawed, they lose all privileges, live a meagre existence and are shunned by everyone who comes into contact with them.
Celestine North lives in such a society, she adheres to, understands and agrees with the rules. She is a poster girl for all that is right with this regime, but then, one day, she slips bringing down on her the weight of The Guild. She has always taken comfort in the rules, believed they kept her and everyone else safe, but now .... things are different.
Now, how does she convince everyone that there’s another way?
Compassion and logic, the perfect partnership.'
Thanks to Netgalley for providing an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. I thoroughly enjoyed these books they were great fun with a moral aside.

I absolutely loved these books! A must read for fans of books like the hunger games
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley, I would like to thank Cecelia Ahern and HarperCollins UK.
I remember loving the first book when I read it back in 2016, it gripped me and I really loved our characters. While I did enjoy Perfect, I just didn't love it as much as Flawed. For this, I give it 3 and a half stars!
Celestine's perfect life was shattered in one moment of a selfless act which had her world crumbling around her. After being branded Flawed by her ex-boyfriend's father, will his mistake come back to haunt him and help Celestine rise up to the Guild or will she stay under the radar hoping to be forgotten?
I still love Celestine, she's a great leading lady who doesn't expect people to follow her nor pushes herself into this, it comes naturally and she still acts like a teenager which I love. We see her grow more which makes you proud as punch as she starts to make her own decisions about her life.
Of course, there was the heart-wrenching love triangle, who will she choose?! Art or Carrick?! I feel Cecelia done a great job with this because as soon as you think Celestine's sticking with one it looks like she's heading back into the arms of the other. One minute you love Art then you hate him but it's vice versa because you feel yourself struggling at points against Carrick! OH, THE TURMOIL!
We get to meet other new characters in the book who you grow to adore but Juniper once again holds my heart in her hands. She clearly loves her sister more than anything in the world and the lengths she will go to for her is admirable. We also learn a softer side to her mother which absolutely melted me as it reminds me of how much my mother would go to the ends of the earth for me.
The whole balance thing threw me off (if you read it you will know what I mean). I don't get why she did it, isn't she playing into the hands of the Guild? Isn't she doing what they are trying to get them to stop?! I was like what the hell girlfriend nuh uh put that down and back the F up! But no she did it meh.
Some of the book fell flat in parts but then it would pick back up again which would catch your attention, you could feel yourself getting frustrated but then you would read on thinking oh no really?!?! GO GO GO GO! Plus I did shed a tear, I won't lie.
I am glad I read it and I would recommend this duology, it's got your hunger games heroine but with sugar on top. I do think it would make a great Movie or TV series and Cecelia is known for her books being made into movies so who knows!
"You'll always be with me," I whisper, kissing his lips."
As always Cecelia Ahern did not disappoint. I've loved her books right from the start and always look forward to a new one :)
Flawed and Perfect were another two great books by Cecelia. I have yet to read a book of hers that hasn’t hooked me from the start, these both were no exception I loved them both. I struggled to put them down, I just had to know how these would finish and I wasn’t disappointed.
*This will only be a review of “Perfect” as I had previously read “Flawed.”*
I was so excited to return to Celestine’s story in Perfect and, happily, I wasn’t disappointed to rejoin her world where I’d left off.
I was drawn back in straight away, and found I quickly remembered the characters I’d left behind and the major events leading up to the end of the previous story. It was interesting to see Celestine meeting new characters and finding herself in a variety of tricky situations, leading her to develop even further into the powerful young woman she becomes by the end of the book. This transformation Celestine goes through from the first few pages of Flawed until the end of Perfect, I’ve seen others describe as unbelievable or ill fitting the character. I disagree. I felt compelled and fully bought into the idea that the journey that she has found herself on could lead her to find the strength she demonstrates in the conclusion of the novel.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading the second, and what I’m presuming to be the final, instalment in this series and would highly recommend both books. (It’s a pleasant change for a YA series to consist of only two books.)
