I received an ARC of this book in return for an honest review.
*"Anything for Her"* by GJ Minett is a psychological crime thriller that takes a slow-burn approach, easing readers into the characters' lives and unraveling the mystery at a measured pace. While the gradual buildup allows readers to get a sense of the protagonist's motivations and relationships, it feels somewhat restrained for much of the first half, lacking the immediate intensity often expected in this genre. However, the plot gains momentum in the second half, introducing a series of revelations that create a satisfying—if somewhat predictable—culmination to the story.
While Minett succeeds in building intrigue, the novel’s overall impact may feel slightly muted for fans of more hard-hitting thrillers. There is a clear storyline and well-drawn characters, but the narrative doesn’t quite reach the gripping depth or edge-of-your-seat tension characteristic of standout psychological thrillers. Nonetheless, the conclusion is well-handled, and those who enjoy a slower, character-driven narrative will appreciate Minett’s storytelling.
This was okay. Not the most exciting read. I did like the characters, though. Will try the author in the future.
I struggled to get into the book it kept jumping all over the place so I didn't find it to be an enjoyable read.
Am going back through my TBR list and was surprised that I had not reviewed this sooner. It seemed right up my street with a missing person story line.
Unfortunately I found this predictable - I worked it all out before she went missing and then I was wishing that Billy would go missing with her.
Unfortunately this was just not for me.
When Billy Orr returns home to spend time with his dying sister, he bumps into his ex-girlfriend Aimi, the love of his life. He might not have seen her in eleven years, but Billy's never forgotten her. He'd do anything for her then, and he'd do anything for her now.
When Aimi tells him that she wants to escape her abusive husband, Billy agrees to help her fake her own death. But is she still the Aimi that Billy remembers from all those years ago?
A brilliant psychological thriller with plenty of twists and turns, and I thoroughly enjoyed working out what was going on.
As much as I love thrillers, I couldn't get into this one. It jumps back and forth in time and even though the chapters were labeled with the dates it took me a while to get it straight -- and then another time and place were added. In the end, none of the characters intrigued me enough for me to really care what happened to them and the final twists did nothing to change my mind.
The plot of this sounded so promising, but for me it just didn't meet my expectations. The timeline was a bit all over the place and I found the ending quite unrealistic although predictable. Not my favourite, but not horrendous.
I am in charge of our Senior School library and now during this time of lockdown, I am looking for a diverse array of new books to furnish their shelves with and inspire our young people to read a wider and more diverse range of books as they move through the senior school. It is hard sometimes to find books that will grab the attention of young people as their time is short and we are competing against technology and online entertainments.
This was a thought-provoking and well-written read that will appeal to readers across the board. It had a really strong voice and a compelling narrative that I think would capture their attention and draw them in. It kept me engrossed and I think that it's so important that the books that we purchase for both our young people and our staff are appealing to as broad a range of readers as possible - as well as providing them with something a little 'different' that they might not have come across in school libraries before.
This was a really enjoyable read and I will definitely be purchasing a copy for school so that our young people can enjoy it for themselves. A satisfying and well-crafted read that I keep thinking about long after closing its final page - and that definitely makes it a must-buy for me!

This book was a great read! It started out with a prologue that reeled me in and got me speculating, so that’s a great start!
Billy Orr and his sister Mia have a strong relationship. They grew up very close, despite a tragic childhood trauma situation. Mia is now married and dying, so Billy goes back home to assist. And though he has a purpose for being there, he soon becomes distracted by an old love interest with an urgent need.
Things get weird pretty fast, and I liked the pace of the book. It does skip back and forth from now to a few years earlier, so much is revealed in the flashbacks.
After “Gone Girl”, I’m getting used to the time jumps in stories. And with this style of writing, G. J. Minett nails it. So much comes out! Very suspenseful book and a great twist at the end gave this book the boost to 4 stars.

Anything for Her had twists and turns and I genuinely enjoyed reading it. I felt it had the right amount of suspense, however, I didn't really find myself rooting for any of the characters.
Thank you to NetGalley for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
ANYTHING FOR HER a crime thriller is the third novel by G.J.Minett. His previous novels include:
THE HIDDEN LEGACY -Debut
LIE IN WAIT
ANYTHING FOR HER
This is the second novel I have read by this author, having enjoyed Lie in Wait. I plan to read his debut novel shortly.
But what was the real reason for Aimi’s disappearance?
Sometimes trusting the one you love is the wrong thing to do.
I have to say that I found it a little confusing to follow the beginning of the story, based on the author’s writing style and an abundance of characters with a shifting POV which made it difficult to follow who was who. It requires that the reader focus as the storyline switches back and forth between various time periods.
Many thanks to Bonnier Zaffre via Net Galley for providing me with a digital copy.
Thankyou to NetGalley, Bonnier Zaffre and G J Minett for the opportunity to read a copy of Anything For Her in exchange for an honest review.
I thought this book offered a good read but seemed to be lacking something.
2.5 stars from me.
Thank you to Netgalley, the Publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in return for my honest opinion.
I was looking forward to this book, it sounded really suspenseful and exciting, it kind of fell flat for me. I liked the storyline idea more than the actual story. I did not find it was that suspenseful and suspected a lot of the storyline as I went along. Not a bad summer read, but kind of predictable.
Four stars from me. I enjoyed it but as others have mentioned it was, at times, a little difficult/slow. I usually enjoy a good thriller and I wouldn't class this as that - it's more of an intriguing mystery. I never really felt Billy was in danger and it didn't consequently get the heart rate going as I might have expected. Nevertheless it was written in a slightly unusual style chopping and changing between periods of time and in terms of dialogue too which was refreshing. I can see why this one has split opinion and would recommend people try it. Some will lap this up and others will be left wanting a little more, hence the 4 stars from me. I fell into the latter camp but am still very grateful for the preview copy. Thanks.
A relly grwat gripping and fast paced book,I loved it,really enjoyed it and would recommend
Billy returns home from London to see his Mia, who tells her the tragic news that she is dying. Whilst on his visit he sees his first love Aimi who turns to him for help – she needs to get away from her abusive husband. She sets up a clandestine meeting and asks for his help in aiding her ‘disappearance’. Billy doesn’t need any convincing, and immediately acquiesces.
Once Aimi has fled, the real story begins. It appears that Aimi has not been entirely truthful about why she needed to leave. And also who she has enlisted to help her stay gone...
I have to admit this book was a slow burner for me. It took me a while to get into, but once I did I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Minett really fleshes out his characters, making you either love or hate them (either way be invested in their outcome!)
I loved Mia, she really brought heart to the book and her terminal prognosis saddened me. Billy was a complex guy...his childhood messed him up in a big way which has continued into his adult life.
The ending builds up to a big climax that won’t disappoint. That ending though!
The only question I have is: why would so many people do so much for a person like Aimi? She isn’t likeable, she didn’t have many redeeming features and wasn’t kind. Yet she had several men willing to risk anything for her!
I would like to thank Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for a review.
Anything For Her by G.J. Minett was given to me by the publisher via Netgalley. Thank you to all parties involved for my arc. I am not a new comer to thrillers in fact they seem to be my book of choice lately and that might be the reason I didn’t connect well with this book. A sold 3 star it was an awesome concept. The story is simple Billy meets ex-girlfriend, Aimi after 11 years, she wants his help to disappear, away from an abusive husband. He helps and then discovers nothing is as it seems. The pacing isn’t bad and I loved the supporting character Mia. I just needed a little something more. A big twist a bit more of an edge of my seat moment. I give this a 3 stars because I like to give new authors a chance to surprise me with the next one.
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.
Billy returns home to his sister, Mia, where he meets up with his ex girlfriend, Aimi, the one big love of his life. Aimi gets billy to help her escape her abusive husband but everything is not as it seems.
I so wanted this to blow me away but I was quite disappointed. I know plenty will love it but it just wasn’t for me sadly
Having never read anything by this author, I was really excited to dive into Anything for Her by G.J Minett. The concept had me completely intrigued; what if your first love came back into your life and asked you for a favour. What would you do? How would you respond?
Billy returns home to care for his dying sister and bumps into his ex-girlfriend, Aimi who, after eleven years, asks for a large indulgence: she needs to escape her abusive husband and needs Billy to help her fake her own death. He’d do anything for her then and he would do anything for her life, so he agrees but, once Aimi disappears, he has to face the possibility that her reasons for disappearing may have been more dangerous than she led him to believe.
The book started off strong and I was intrigued immediately. Told between three different time periods and multiple character perspectives, I spent the first 25% of the novel wrapped in who was who and how all their stories fit together. However, after this point, I found that the novel was really dragging for me. The execution became a little bit confusing and I felt my interest waning.
The novel felt like a slow climb; tension building and confusion mounting. However, I never felt like I was able to get any real resolution. I felt like there was this build up and then nothing. It just felt a little lacklustre to me.
