One of my all-time favorite authors.
This was a great addition to the series and does not disappoint.
Realistic characters, action-packed and keeps you wanting more
This one took me a little while to get into, partly because of how slowly it starts, and also because of how unlikeable Callie is as a character. I found her so irritating, even though you could tell she meant well.
The novel has an overriding feeling of paranoia about it. Nobody trusts anybody else and nothing any character says seems particularly believable. Callie is constantly lying to Tilda, who in turn lies to Callie, and both are being lied to by Felix - and of course there are the members of Callie's support group, some of whom are just as bad.
There are a lot of plot twists but not so many it becomes hard to hold on to. Unfortunately, the story becomes a little predictable, especially as it's marketed as a modern STRANGERS ON A TRAIN. Despite its predictability, the writing is good. The characters are complex and realistic, even if I did find myself disliking every last one of them.
Overall though it fell a little flat for me. Another predictable thriller with another set of untrustworthy, unlikeable characters. Worth a read if you enjoy a good psychological thriller, but I wouldn't shout about it.
This was a very twisted story about psychopathic tendencies, narcissism, murder and manipulation. I didn't like any of the characters but the story definitely needed them. One of those stories which you must read to he end to find out if you were right.
A great psychological thriller, and very impressive that its the authors first book. I was grabbed by the storyline right from go and was hooked right until the end. Great characters and the plot was good too. Some bits were a tad grosse, but kind of liked it
White bodies was gripping from start to finish, really liked the characters, had me hooked! It's definitely one I will be reading again.
White Bodies
A psychological thriller, a tale of two twins and a who done it puzzle. I thoroughly enjoyed reading and am annoyed with myself for taking so long to get around to it.
I found troubled twin Callie’s behavior disturbing, from eating her twin sister the well known actress Tilda’s belongings. It made me want to discover what had actually happened in both their pasts as there was clearly some big trauma that caused this slightly deranged activity.
It was certainly a creepy tale that I couldn’t quite shake the feeling of uneasiness from for a few days.
A well written book that I would certainly recommend to anyone looking for a good thriller.
Robins manipulates the reader as much as do her central characters, Callie and Tilda. Suspend your disbelief at the complexity of the plot and it us an intruiging read: who us mad? Who is obsessed? The denouement is a flurry and a tad contrived but nonetheless sarisfying.
There seem to be a lot of psychological thrillers out now that focus on rather disturbing things - this was yet another of them. I didn't mind the story too much until we found out that Callie frequently eats things belonging to her twin, Tilda, so after that there was no character to like, or indeed to care about what they did or didn't do. The twist about Felix was, in the end, no surprise, once it had become clear what Tilda and Callie were like, and I just felt mildly sad for him. As a story it didn't thrill me, interest me or give me any strong emotions really, apart from a general feeling of 'yuk', a sadness about the stupidity of some online chat rooms, and a desire for people to be punished when they do wrong. As a study of manipulative behaviour, it was slightly interesting.
A psychological thriller which is trailered as being gripping and compulsive - but after the initial set up, when we see Felix’s dead body, then scroll back to his part in the life of Callie and Tilda, and his increasingly controlling behaviour over beautiful actress Tilda, I found my attention wandering, I couldn’t stay with this long enough to catch the inevitable twists - because even so early in the book it’s obvious that all is not as it seems. Didn’t find the characters convincing enough to want to find out.
White Bodies is a disturbing story of obsession and domestic violence and has echoes of the classic Hitchcock film Strangers on a Train. In places I found the story quite distasteful as it touched on incest and the twin protagonists, though both different in character and personality I did not like . However, it was a compelling read though I was let down by the ending.
This was a really good read but sometimes a worrying page turner as you don't know what to expect next! The characters are quite odd, however I enjoyed it still.
White Bodies is the author’s debut book and what a debut it is Grabbing me from the start I was hooked until the very last page I simply couldn't put it down.
Told from Callie’s POV which I am not normally a fan of but I have to say the author has totally nailed it!
So in this story we meet non identical twins Callie and Tilda. Two totally different people Callie works in a book shop and Tilda is beautiful and successful actress. White bodies tells the story of Callie’s obsession with her sister and her husband Felix who is controlling. And of course Callie wants her sister to be happy or so it seems. With Tilda saying she is happy. Has a reader you begin to question everything just like Callie and I found myself totally addicted and obsessed myself with this whole story.
The author has certaining done her research with true crime murders and references are shown in this story where I was thinking oh yeah I know that one.
White Bodies is a very clever dark and creepy story that is full of twists and turns that you won't see coming. Yes it is full of OMG moments where I actually forgot to take a breath. This is a must read for fans of psychological thrillers giving it 4.5 stars….I am looking forward to reading more books by this author
Thank you to Harlequin UK and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for a non biased review.
This was an incredibly disturbing book. It kept you guessing until the very end about the relationship between Tilda and Felix, and the plot behind the book was actually incredibly clever.
I found it incredibly difficult to actually like any of the characters. The entire book makes the protagonist out as a stalking, possessive unlikeable character, which made the book quite difficult to read. This was made worse by the pace of the book, which for the most part felt like it was floundering. There were large chunks of the book that felt like it was going nowhere.
Loved this, was a great read! Who is playing who, what is really going on - would recommend!
This is completely out of my comfort zone but after reading the blurb I was excited to read it.
I have to say I was gripped from the very first page! Callie's obsession with Tilda was very disturbing & creepy, throw in Felix & the added suspense around him & I was completely hooked. I never guessed the ultimate connection between the characters but I thoroughly enjoyed this strange tale.
This is the story of Callie Farrow and her sister Tilda Farrow. Obsession, murder, abuse and a twisted plot that will make this book an exceptional read.
This book made an exceptional change from the beginning till the last pages, it was a slow burning plot, but with a twisted ending!
I was quite surprised with this read, in the beginning everything points at Callie as she is totally obsessed with her sister and her new boyfriend, Felix. Callie even makes a diary and follows her sister! So we start doubting if she is really seeing psychological/physic abuse between them or she loves being tragic. So while Callie enters to the disturbing world of abusers and victims needing to escape, she becomes paranoid and neurotic and maybe seeing signs that doesn't exist?
While we are reading the story, we learn the past of the two sisters too, and it seems that the pattern is repeating... will Callie be able to help Tilda before it's too late?
This had been a brilliant read, original and with an unsettling atmosphere that keeps you guessing all the book. I highly recommend you to read this book, because after all the turns it has it will leave no one indifferent!
Ready for a trip to the dark side?
Well what a creepy read, fast paced and the twins, well....it was seriously enjoyable and a must read for all fans of this genre! Callie and Tildy (twins) are totally twisted lol totally different but freaky all the same! The ending I had no idea what was going to happen and when it came wow well I didn’t expect that....Callie has always been protective of Tildy and then Tildy gets a new boyfriend Called Felix, Callie doesn’t like him, and thinks Tildy is in danger.... he’s pulling her twin away and she doesn’t like it. Here the games begin, and oh how twisted and crazy they are!
You mustn’t miss this book, should be the top of your “to read” book list for sure!!!!
It had me totally blown away and that’s rare for me....5 stars!!!!
This was a real page turning thriller.
Tilder and Callie are twins but are so unlike each other. Tilda wants to be a star and is and Callie is a thinker.
Add in to the mix a boyfriend with OCD ,who's behaviour is rather strange,a death, domestic abuse and numerous twists and turns and you have a book that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Callie was difficult to love as a character but at the same time you championed her. You have differing emotions, questioning her sanity but without ruining anything this is all so relevant.
A fab read
Callie and Tilda are twins but they couldn't be more different. Callie is a bit shy and her days are filled by her job in a bookstore and she has not much of a social life. Tilda is an actress who loves to be at the centre of attention. During one of their movie nights, she is surprised to meet her sister's new boyfriend, Felix. At the beginning, Callie seems to like Felix and is charmed by him, but soon she starts to notice his controlling and obsessive behaviour and starts to worry that Tilda is in an abusive relationship. Callie has always felt protective towards her twin, so she joins an online support groups for victims of abusive men and their families. There she befriends two women to whom Callie reveals her suspicions, but soon things get out of control.
The term psychological thriller is very appropriate for this novel because the author explores in depth the psychology of all the characters involved. Each behaviour is analysed in detail and I couldn't stop reading, wondering what they would do next. This is one of these novels where you know that something bad is about to happen, with surprising twists all the way to the last word. It is a thought-provoking and dark novel that faces real-life issues. Its captivating writing and intriguing plot will keep you on edge all the way through!
Really enjoyed this crime thriller. Great cast of characters and a gripping and entertaining plot with enough twists and surprises to keep this reader guessing. I Couldn't put it down.
