A great read full of twists and turns , the clever writing in it makes you think you are on the right journey and then bam ... you find yourself in the totally wrong direction . Fab book ! Thanks to netgalley and th publisher for my opportunity to read
I found this book really hard to put down! Likeable lead character who clearly has had some pretty bad things happen to her! There was an uncanny similarity to both “the girl on the train” and “the last Mrs Parish” and I do believe that by trying to find the next big twist, books including this one become a bit familiar! Having said that, there were lots of twists and turns, some real originality at times, and some stories within another story which made this book highly enjoyable! Thankyou NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for allowing me to review this great book.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book, it kept me guessing and everytime I thought I had worked out what was happening, the authors threw in another twist. You get to the very end and there is a final twist, I will definitely be recommending it to friends.
A very clever and exciting book, had to reread the last thirty pages to make sure I understood all the plotting. I read a lot some are better than others but this was different. Had to make sure I understood all the double plotting of the two women, and to find out who Emma was , it was a blinder. Thank you for letting me read this. Book.
Loved this book. From the first page I knew it was a book I was going to enjoy and boy didn’t I enjoy it. I literally couldn’t put it down, just one more page was my mantra until my eyes couldn’t stay open any longer and I fell asleep. I’m sure everyone will be talking about the twist at the end and it’s a very good twist but one that no one will ever guess at because it comes totally by surprise.
Very good book and would make a great film if the “twist “ story was to run alongside the story of Vanessa.
I have not read a thriller this good in ages!
Eventhough it warns you from the outset that your assumptions will be wrong about what is happening here - and they will be - I had no clue about the twists to come (other than suspecting the husband could not be as perfect as he seemed).
Great ending too.
This is a throughly enjoyable read in the vein of The Girl on the Train and Behind Closed Doors.
Unputdownable!
I was disappointed by this book as I felt I had read the plotlines before - seemingly charming husband who in reality is abusive physically and emotionally, and a wife who plots leaving him. The final twist was quite clever but I didn't feel really added anything.
This is obviously not a criticism of the writers, but as a UK reader I had never heard of "pledges" and found the whole plot point around the drunk girls who were blindfolded and went swimming very difficult to understand. To be honest I was surprised more of them didn't drown or need rescuing!
What a story! The twists through this are so clever that I didn't see it coming, Well written and continually leaving you wanting more, this is a must read with a can't put down attitude!
Twists and turns throughout this excellent book surrounding a divorced couple and an affair! I was gripped and couldn’t wait to find out what happened!! Definitely worth a read!!!
I read this book in a day and really enjoyed it. The story is about a jealous first wife, who wants to stop her ex from remarrying ........... or is it? It's difficult to describe the story without spoilers, so suffice it to say that there are some great twists and turns. Thanks to NetGalley for a preview copy.
Mostly very good, but the authors cheat a lot!
I enjoyed the book, anyway, and raced through the last 2/3 through without stopping. For me, living first-person in a (non-detective) woman's head was very interesting (and scary *winks* ).
Before we start, you should know that my general opinion of men is very low, and has been declining every day since I went off to college in 1971.

The first 1/3 of the book is a bit slow and confused, and the pacing is very uneven. Vanessa is clearly disturbed, both due to her divorce and emotionally as well. We are clearly being set up for twists in the plot, but I was not prepared for so many "oh, we're such clever authors" sudden twists.
The first twist I had guessed pretty early; that’s fine. The many time-frames of the story are not clearly delineated in most cases, which causes you to have to re-read paragraphs to figure out who-when-where. One of the other twists I caught, after magical back-story was revealed.
1. Clever plot but seriously contrived; not my cup of tea.
2. Fundamental character changes, not believable.
3. Rabbits-from-hats plot tricks, too often.
4. Undisclosed past histories and relevant characters.
5. Unreliable narrator; again, not my cup of tea.
(view spoiler)
Vanessa
Clearly a troubled character, seemingly unable to cope with being dumped by Richard, admittedly a terrible trauma. She's often making decisions and taking actions which only worsen her situation. (view spoiler) She is only partly sympathetic, and after the back-story is revealed, it's clear that she and Richard were a bad match from the start. Critical back history missing until the end.
Richard
A rich, powerful, handsome and dominant male. He genuinely cares for Vanessa during their marriage, but it's a greek tragedy since they are both badly flawed. Critical back history missing until the end.
Nellie
Young, sweet and loving and delighted to be wooed by Richard. Critical back history missing until the end.
Emma
Another sweet young lady, clearly enamoured of the powerful and lovable Richard, and blind to his flaws. Critical back history missing until the end.
Sam
An interesting but undeveloped secondary character.
Aunt Charlotte
The strongest and wisest of the bunch, but mostly undeveloped.
This is a real pot-boiler of a book, and the final chapter and the epilogue were "facepalm clever", and unfair to the reader ... in my rarely humble opinion ...
Thank you, NetGalley, for this ARC.
Notes:
5.0% ... I'm really slumming here! Hahaha. Sneaking into a woman's head, first person jealousy melodrama, very unusual for me and a lot of (scary) fun!
9.0% .... is it just me, or do you distrust Richard immediately on the airplane?
10.0% ...."Vanessa: I’d never been in love with anyone before Richard. At that moment I realized I’d never hated anyone, either."
18.0% .... Nellie seems awfully submissive to Richard. If any of you need advice dealing with asshat men-dorks, just ask 😊
29.0% .... Richard does all the right things for Nellie in Chapter 9, but I'm still suspicious of him.
30.0% ... Interesting prose of minutiae, encourages you to skim along, while it cleverly buries some key thoughts and events. "It's right there, you just missed it" .... There's an almost a scatterbrained stream of consciousness from both women, but seriously hiding the truth.
72.0% .... the Jason and Daniel threads should have been introduced earlier in the book. Not as "gotchas" later on.
74.0% .... Hell hath no fury...
85.0% "... repetitive and overwrought."
The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks
This book has so many twist and turns that I had to keep going back to reread pages to see which character was telling the story. I found it difficult to read in parts because of the difficult relationship Vanessa had with her husband. This certainly was an unique storyline. I would like to thank NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.
This started well and I was thoroughly enjoying it until the 'twist' which just made the whole thing pointless. Shame...it had been so promising.
Well if I could give it 10stars I would! This has to be be the best domestic cat and mouse thriller I have read in absolute years!!!!
It’s jam packed with twists and turns and just when you think you get it, you don’t! I was constantly re-reading bits so actually check what I was reading was correct as there was yet another twist and your like what?? So back a chapter you go!
I really cannot recommends tbis enough and can’t say too much as it’s not out fir another 3months! However I have told ANYONE who will listen about this book and will be running it to buy it for my friends.
It seriously had me up half the bloody night as I couldn’t put it down and when it had finished I was still thinking about it hours later and that’s the sign if a good book!
It’s amazing and breathtaking and scary and obsessive and just brilliant!!!!!
This gripping thriller defies assumptions by consistently, and cleverly, delivering twist after twist. Brilliantly, there are no loose ends, but the journey to its neat and satisfying conclusion is so full of twists that it makes the authors’ achievement in straightening them all out in time all the more impressive! A must for fans of Gillian Flynn who have been searching for a comparative edge-of-the-seat ride.
I really enjoyed this book. Great storyline, wonderful main characters and a very good read. I would recommend this book.
A mind-bogging read about marriage and betrayal. I assumed I had figured out early on what was happening and what the story was about. Boy was I wrong! Enter a very revealing twist that I certainly didn't see coming! The twists and turns juat carried on right to the very end! A beautifully clever written plot with fantastic characters! I thank Netgalley for an early read of this brilliant novel! A must read!

Tangible tension Breakneck speed! Troubling! Twists and Turns! Unputdownable!
All sound cliches?? NOT for this book, from the opening word to the closing sentence this book had all the above and more... it keeps you on your toes! just as you thought you had worked out the plot and where it was going..off it went again with yet more surprises, twists and turns...it really did keep me guessing until the very end
I loved the characters and how they evolved and loved the roller coaster ride they took you on and how they involved you in the book
I really didn’t want to stop reading this book in the 2 days I read it and when I wasn’t reading it was on my mind and I was trying to work out how it would end! the writing made you feel tense and drew you in to the excitement of the book
A must read of 2018 and if you havent guessed I would 100% recommend it, but make sure you have a day or two to yourself as you wont want to put it down 😃
This book gripped me from the outset. It's twist is executed flawlessly and the book is one of the best plotted pieces of fiction I have read. The story is compelling and keeps you turning the pages. One of the best books of the year
