Yay ... Carrie finally gets her own story. I've enjoyed her so much as a secondary character in this series and have been hoping she gets a HEA.
Love After Hours is part of Rad's Rivers Community Romance series and, as with all of Rad's series, the cast of characters continues to grow. Although this book is focused on Carrie and her hunky contractor, Gina, all the couples and secondary characters from the previous books are still front and centre so you can keep up with how things are progressing with them. It was nice to see the other characters, but I was a bit miffed that their time on the page meant less time for Carrie and Gina.
Carrie, the hyper efficient admin assistant to the CEO of Rivers Hospital, has been kind of left in the lurch as every other lesbian in town has been hooking up. Enter Gina, the dark and broody butch (Rad does these characters so well) who Carrie hires to renovate the old house she has just bought. There's a great physical chemistry between the two - their first meeting is a bit of a disaster and that helps with the push/pull and flirtation that builds the overall relationship.
One of the elements I have been enjoying in this series is the relationship between Margie and Blake. They are technically secondary characters, but they take over the page when they pop up. Unlike most of Rad's characters, the relationship between these two is moving at a rather demure pace - their friendship based on acceptance, common ground is rock solid and you can't hope that they end up together and even if they don't, their friendship is something very special.
A great addition to the overall series - more Carrie and Gina would have been better but I'm sure we'll find them popping up in the next books in the series and stealing time from the other leads. :)
*An ARC of this book was provided to me by the publisher in exchange for an honest review*
I typically really enjoy Radclyffe’s novels, but this one just didn’t do it for me. The romance was sweet but slow and nothing else happened. No tension, no major crisis, nothing to keep the lovers apart, no real plot line, just your average life. And while I love my perfectly average life, it just isn’t worthy of a novel. It might be that if you’d read the rest of the Rivers series this installment would be a lovely chance to revisit the characters, but it did nothing to make me want to read the other books.
Another solid release from Radclyffe. This one takes readers back to the Rivers Community to visit old friends and explore a new romance for one of the original characters, Carrie.
Love After Hours brings back a formula that we have seen before from Radclyffe. Gina, a new introduction, is a broody butch with a traumatic past. She and Carrie do not see eye-to-eye after first, and in fact, seem to spend a majority of the book denying their mutual attraction. But in the end, it all works out and they come together.
Would I say that Love After Hours is my all-time favorite story by Radclyffe? No, but as always, it is a solid read with a good storyline. Not the mention the revisit and learn about the new developments in some of the other characters' lives.
A simple but enjoyable Radclyffe flick. Not up to standard but the characters had enough chemistry to engage and entertain the reader. If you're a Radclyffe fan, then there's no doubt you will eat this up. For me, more depth would have been great and I get tired of the same characters appearing in novel after novel.
I really do love a good series, that brings in new characters to existing story. As always, Radclyffe had another great love story. I really enjoyed reading this story and look forward to the next chapter of this series.
This is my first Rivers Community Novel, but it will not be the last. While I could wax poetic about what makes this a satisfying read, the truth is the only thing any self-respecting lover of this genre needs to know is that Radclyffe wrote it. That alone speaks volumes about the quality of this book.
The Rivers books are my favorite by Radclyffe. I have read a great deal of her books and typically they are hit or miss for me. This series has been fantastic though. This is the 4th book in the Rivers Community Romance series. While it was not my favorite, it was still so good. I have waited through 3 books before finally Carrie finds love. I loved this character from the beginning. While I still love this series, this book is my least favorite of the 4. This was really sad to me, because I liked Carrie so much. I just didn’t feel the spark between Gina and Carrie. This is horrible but I felt like Carrie could have done better in choosing her match. I own all the books in both ebook and audible format. I have listened to the first 3 books several times, and they are some of the best audiobooks I own. I just purchased this one on audible and we will see how it is. If you haven’t read the previous 3 books, read those first. Still a good read, but not as good as it should have been or as good as the previous in the series. I hope we will get another glimpse at the River’s community and catch up with Blake. He has grown so much in this series.
This is a good choice for some light holiday reading, but it's not the author's best.
It's good to see some familiar faces from previous books, and as always, the writing is engaging and the characters well developed. However, the relationship between Gina and Carrie, the two leads, develops way too quickly without them spending much time together.
Some of the intriguing ideas mentioned in the blurb, like Gina renovating Carrie's place, could have been exploited a lot more to increase the tension between the two, yet they haven't. Similarly in the beginning Gina's leg injury sounds like it might have been central to the book, but it's pretty much forgotten after a few passing mentions.
An honest review thanks to NetGalley. This was a hit out of the park, and honestly, I think this is my favorite Rivers novel. The chemistry and connection between Gina and Carrie jumped off the page. As with all Radclyffe books, the secondary characters made the book pop. I was a bit disappointed in how fast it ended, of course, that is because of how into it I was. I felt like I just got to the middle when I turned the page, and it was the epilogue. I'm hoping there is another Rivers novel so I can continue hearing about Gina and Carrie.
Not my favorite Radcliffe book. There were too many characters and things going on that didn't enhance the story. This may be my last in the Rivers series.
You can't miss with Radclyffe's books. No matter of a topic, genre, the chemistry is there, the characters are lovable - at least you always find yourself rooting for that couple to happen, with all your heart! Radclyffe is a renowned author and there simply aren't bad books written by her. Plus, I'm a great fan of this whole Rivers Community franchise, so there is that as well. I'd gladly recommend this book to anyone. 4 1/2 stars from me.
This is the fourth book by Radclyffe in the Rivers Community romance series. I have enjoyed this series and was looking forward to reviewing her newest writing. Radclyffe has a very special way to draw in her readers by creating characters that not only possess good qualities, but also have little flaws in their armor. How she handles their talents and flaws is what makes her books different and captivate the readers.
The two characters in this romance are Carrie Longmire, an administrative assistant to the CEO of the hospital and Gina Antonelli, a woman who helps to run her family’s construction business. Carrie is responsible for handling the bids for construction jobs at the hospital. She has a very charming personality and gets along with everyone. She also possesses outstanding time management and efficiency skills. So, it is not unusual
that she would handle the representatives from construction companies.
From the very beginning there are sparks between Carrie and Gina. Except for a little bristling initially, the sexual tension builds until it pops. At times the sexual tension comes to a stop because of their different personalities. Carrie is very attractive and doesn’t object to a little fling if it isn’t a one-night stand. She is looking for a forever relationship. When Gina was in her mid-to-late teen years, she thought she had found her forever love. An accident ruined that dream and we find Gina still picking up the pieces of her broken heart more than a decade later.
In this novel, Radclyffe infuses intramural softball into the town’s companies and other institutions. Carrie is the hospital’s star pitcher. She perfected her outstanding skills at a division 1 college. Gina can no longer play due to an injury from the accident. However, she does manage one of Carrie’s opposing teams.
Love After Hours could be a stand-alone book. However, I personally feel that the reader should buy the other ones in the series to enjoy the interaction of the characters. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
I was given this ARC in return for a fair and honest review.
More with the Rivers family and the now the community that surrounds the Rivers Hospital.
This one was more out of the hospital than in it, which was a nice change of pace (and really I should of guessed it when I read the title, my bad). It's Carrie's turn to try and find love. This time she's moved into Harper's old house and it needs some tender loving care (and ripping out of kitchen and bathroom). Enter Gina. She's a construction supervisor for the family company and they're doing an addition to the Hospital, except, there's a snafu, and what she winds up doing is working on the updates for Carrie's house. Sparks fly as they do a dance around each other that revolves around a house building a little, and a lot of it around Softball as well. Since Gina coaches a team that's going up against the Rivers' team.
It's still a fun read for sure, and we get to keep learning about all these other characters while still having a front and center and different burgeoning relationship to read about as well. I think that Radclyffe is one of the best at these series that aren't relationship serieses, but towns or cities or friends serieses.
There was one story line that I sorta wish had maybe not been totally left hanging, but, to even that out, there was also the Blake/Margie subplot. Blake had a big change in his life, and it was cool to see his progression through this book, and if there's another book I hope that he's in there as the subplot too
I was given this ARC by Netgalley on behalf of Bold Strokes Books.
I actually liked this book. I thought I would get tired of this community by the time I got to this book and I kind of was. There were certain characters I did not like including Presley who seemed so butch in the first book and now is all femme. It was odd so I loved Carrie. It did not necessarily see her and Gina together. Gina just seemed like they wrote her in because they needed a love interest for Carrie, mostly because they didn’t mention her in any of the other books. So not the worst but definitely formulaic. I would love to read more about Margie and Blake maybe a YA book that connects to these. There aren’t enough YA books out there about Trans teenagers. So overall the best one of the bunch so far.
I was unable to review this book because of a conflict in my schedule. Sorry for any inconvenience this has caused the publisher or the author of the work. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to review for you and I look forward to reviewing for you in the future.
This is the fourth book in Radclyffes ‘Rivers Community Novels’ and she again doesn’t disappoint. We first met Carrie Longmire in ‘Against Doctors Orders’ when she moves, along with her boss Presley Worth to help revive a community hospital. ‘Rivers Community Hospital. Throughout the first three RCN’s we kept getting glimpses into the life she led. Now Radclyffe has decided it’s her turn to find love. Gina Antonelli is the contractor hired to build an an expansion to the Emergency Department, who has some issues she hasn’t been able to let go of doesn’t think she’s capable of being in love. Radclyffe also give us a update into the lives of Presley and her wife Harper, Harper’s sister Flann and Abby, Carrie’s consin Mari and her love Glenn. Abby’s son Blake is trans and about to have his first surgery in his journey to become the man he knows he’s meant to be. Harper and Flann’s younger sister Margie is Blake's best friend who is helping him grow. I really love Radclyffes writing. Her books are always fun and interesting. Already looking forward to book number five.
Does everything Radclyffe touch turn to gold? Another Rivers installment and one I was glad to read. It's about time the feisty Carrie got her love interest. And who better than the dark mysterious butch Gina. But also, I just love reading Blake's story and how the community is rallying around him with support and love. Then there is Maggie. She is an absolute treasure.
I really enjoy Radclyffe's writing. She has a way of drawing you in and really liking her characters. Even the obnoxious ones. I know this book has varying reviews but I really did enjoy it. Maybe I'm just a sap for happy endings. Hey we can all dream. Maybe there really is someone for everyone. I like to feel there is so I live vicariously through the books I read. Ok, you can stop laughing now.
Carrie is the super assistant of Presley who is now married to Harper from the first Rivers book. Gina is the dark, mysterious construction worker who is working on the hospital and somehow making improvements to Carries home. They meet, they fall in love and have incredible sex. Interested yet? Carrie is also the Rivers baseball teams star pitcher. Come on whats not to love. Gina is the total opposite of Carrie. She is stuck in her unhappy past. Maybe together they can figure it all out.
There is a slight addition to this story and that is Blake. He is transgender and undergoing major surgery. This part of the book really what gripped my attention. Mainly his bravery. Also the bravery of his best friend Maggie and her nonjudgmental attitude. It truly was a breathe of fresh air. So, yes in my opinion this book deserved 5 stars. Also, yes I would recommend it. You could read this as a stand alone but honestly I wouldn't advise it. By reading the 3 previous Rivers novels you'll gain a greater understanding to the dynamics of the community. Enjoy!

Two very different characters Kassandra Hayden and Jayden Beaumont meet after Jayden rescues Kassandra's runaway dog Lula. They both have to learn to step beyond their protective boundaries and trust, not an easy thing to do for either of them. An enjoyable, heart warming romance.
