A great book will steal your heart forever. A good book will capture your attention for its duration. I’m always looking for that amazing book heart-stopping story, but I will always take a good solid read when I can get it. I think a good book is what you can easily say for Picture Perfect by Lisa Moreau.
Not world-shattering, not overly memorable, but a nice story to kick back and enjoy your downtime.
It was a fast and easy read that was relatively lighthearted. The author has a beautiful way of describing the scenery and the story flowed seamlessly. A nice way to spend a few hours!
3.25 stars
This book was fantastic very heartwarming, funny and sometimes you just wanted to shake these two women but when they finally sat back and thought it through they came together. This book now great no matter your sexuality, it makes you really think about relationship trials and what to do and what not to do.
The first part of the book was actually good but then it dragged on until the contest and what happens afterwards.
3 1/2 Stars. I ended up liking this more than I expected. This book wasn’t really on my radar. To be honest I though Moreau’s last book The Butterfly Whisperer, was just okay. I’m happy to say I thought this book was better and I enjoyed the read.
The story is about two women who want to win a photography contest on Catalina Island. The prize is huge, the chance to work for a popular traveling magazine. The two women are rivals, though they have never actually spoken to one another. When fate puts them together, what happens if feelings become involved?
I got into both characters instantly. Olive, who lives on the island, is an absolute sweetheart. She is almost too nice and people sometimes take advantage. Gabby, is almost the opposite. She is very confident, almost cocky. She drove me nuts sometimes, but I still liked her character.
When it comes to the romance, there is no insta love here. For that I was very grateful. It happens so much in lesfic that I am happy to read a romance that builds naturally. The chemistry is not in your face, but it is definitely there. You believe these characters would be attracted to each other.
One of the issues I had with Moreau’s last book, I thought was very predictable. I could tell everything that was going to happen. I started to feel that a little with this book. You could absolutely see some things coming; but I also was surprised too, so it ended up being much better than her last book.
This book I would consider a fluffy romance with some angst. Even though there is some angst, this is more of a good feels book. And what really impressed me, wait for it… there was COMMUNICATION! OMG it’s the unicorn of lesfic romance. Instead of just breaking up automatically, the characters actually spoke to each other. Who would have ever thought?
My only real issue was Gabby’s big Italian family. 80% of my family comes from New York and New Jersey. I have had a lot of Italian friends and even Italian relatives, by marriage. So while I did enjoy parts with the family, sometimes it just felt to stereotypical Italian.
Overall, I enjoyed this read. I think romance fans looking for more of a lighter book that still has some angst, will like this read. I am now looking forward to Moreau’s next book and I hope she will keep getting better.
An ARC was given to me by BSB, for a honest review.
I really enjoyed this read. It did follow a fairly normal story line for a lesfic romance when you have the two characters as rivals who make assumptions about the other before they really get to know each other properly.
I enjoyed both characters and found myself really pulled into the romance. I did love how I felt they acted like normal adults through their disagreements or understandings and generally talked things out. So for me I liked that and felt there was still ups and downs that we went through for both characters.
And I did love Nicki as well I found her to be very endearing and actually would love a story on her.
A fun enjoyable read for me.
I wish I could give half stars and give it 3 ½ ...
I liked the story and the idea behind it but I think their feud, where it was obvious they like each other but Olive and Gabby didn’t see it yet was drawn out too long. Catalina was described beautifully and the characters were developed well. There was definitely chemistry between olive and Gabby but Gabby’s Italian family was described in a very stereotypical way.
All in all it was a nice quick book to read.
After reading this story, family is my first response and specifically an Italian family. To some extent a big stereotypical Italian family. Another word that comes to mind is freedom. But, what does freedom look like? It can and does vary from person-to-person. For Gabriella Maria Pacelli it is photography and travel. Commitment and love is not par of her DNA. Gabby is expected to take over the family business but she has other dreams. Olive Hays not only feels stuck, she is stuck. She wants forever but everyone she cares about moves away. When the two meet both of their lives are about to change. the read is not complex and the characters are not as interesting as I hoped they would be. It would have been good to have more background information about the two main characters.
