Awesome! Third book in the match series. I love it. Very hot. I wasn't expecting this to be as good as the first two but I was pleasantly surprised. Great characters, great story and great writing. The pages just turned themselves. Highly recommend.
This is the third book in the Perfect Match series, but each story stands alone so you don't need to read them in order, in fact I still haven't gotten the chance to read the first one, and I've enjoyed books 2 and 3.
I really enjoyed the second book but I have to admit that I loved this one even more. I really liked the characters, the main ones and secondary ones, I wanted to know more about each one of them.
I highly recommend this one!
I've just finished my third Fiona Riley book! BE PROUD OF ME. Hehe, kidding. Though, I do find it really fun to stay on top of a series this way.
So, at first, I was kind of hmmmmm about the firefighter angle. This makes me a terrible lesbian cupcake, but most uniforms don't do the most for me. That includes firefighter gear. They're so huge and impressive, yet intimidating and I can't help but think of all the soot and whatnot hiding in the fibres and....have I made my point? I haven't! Because with other writers, her having a badass job would put her in a big butch box. I like the subtleties of Sasha's personality and how her femininity shines through, while still sounding strong and capable of her profession.
With all the.......insanity on the news, I really savored this story by reading a bit at a time before bed, in transit, etc and then binged the last 20% percent because I'm only human. I love women in love.
If I had to describe this one, this book has the sauciness and steamy sex scenes of Showtime/HBO (even more than them because they rarely show lesbians REALLY getting down) with the shiny perfect appearances of like, an ABC or NBC show. At times, if felt like one too many folks were "beautiful" or the nicest person ever, which pulled me out of the narrative a bit. Every other character doesn't have to be physically beautiful to be beautiful, you get me? BUT, most importantly, the main love interests were beautiful in both ways, which is what I want. Shallow, I know.
Their angst was foreseen but more on the amusing, "oh god, when will the other shoe drop" way. Their drama didn't seem insurmountable, so don't worry about that stressing you out if you're not the angsty type.
Overall, a solid book that I'm honored to review before it officially drops on Kindle. Please, please come out with more, Fiona Riley! Four stars!
Fiona Riley has quickly becone one of my favorite authors. Miss Match and Unlikely Match are both fantastic reads. This book is by far my favorite. Sasha and Abby both matched with Shelly (from Unlikely Match) but Shelly found someone else. A chance meeting for them leads to more. I enjoyed Sasha’s family as well as her devotion to them. Abby’s relationship with her witty mother was a nice touch as well. Sasha and Abby are great mains, smart, strong, motivated; and their banter is enjoyable. Naturally the book isn’t all sunshine and roses but the push-pull works here. I am so thrilled I was given permission to review this book and I look forward to reading her next book. Thanks Ms. Riley for another great read!!
Fiona Riley knows how to write. It doesn't matter whether you want a classic love story, sweet coupling, steamy, erotic ones, she does it pretty good, and has shown it with this trilogy. In my world of favorite couplings, this book goes really high up the rankings. I was a great fan of Lucinda/Samantha from the first book and I thought Fiona Riley can't ever write another two characters that charming and oozing chemistry, but Sasha and Abby are maybe outranking them. This book is so addictive, it leaves you no choice but to read it all at once. their chemistry is out of this world, their banter and flirting and their dialogues are very well written; if you are looking for steamy, hot, erotic romance with great characters, this is the book for you.
A super sexy third offering in the "Perfect Match" series by Ms. Riley. While it does not shatter new boundaries and admittedly, has plot conflict that was quite predictable, it left this members of reading audience supremely satisfied. The strength of the chemistry between Sasha and Audrey, as well as the appealing quality of the supporting characters (specifically, the parents of both women) contributed to a novel that underscored the many attributes of the author. I look forward to further publications.
This is book number 3 of Fiona Riley's Perfect Match series, this time featuring hot firefighter Sasha and reluctant millionairess Abby. Even though it's ok to read it as a stand alone, you'll enjoy it more by reading the series chronologically. This book is entertaining, romantic and downright hot. The chemistry between the main characters is sizzling, the dialogues witty and the secondary characters add realism and entertainment to the story. Ms. Riley knows her craft and builds her characters with realism and defined personalities. A good example in this book is Sasha's father, so accurately described in his Irishness that reminds me of any of my neighbours in Ireland. My only criticism is in the last few chapters, one of the circumstances surrounding their conflict is a bit weak. However, the author resolves it nicely at the end.
Overall, an enjoyable read. 4 stars.

There’s so much I enjoyed about Strike a Match, the story of a firefighter named Sasha who is tired of the one-night stands and hook-ups of her “womanizer” lifestyle. Sasha is looking for the right woman to be her perfect match, so she signs up with a high-powered dating service, hoping to find a healthy long-term relationship.
Sasha and Abby are both clients of the same matchmaker, and they meet at a wedding. They have briefly been introduced at mixers and other social events, but this is the first time they really notice each other. Sparks fly! (There are going to be so many fire metaphors in this review. So many.) They share a dance and a sexy kiss, and it’s clear that this romance has potential.
Fiona Riley does a nice job of creating thorny internal and external conflicts for each heroine. Sasha is working multiple jobs, doing everything she can to help pay for the huge pile of medical debts from her father’s leukemia. She is close to her parents and wants the kind of stable, happy relationship they have. Her romance with Abby is firing up just as her father’s cancer is getting worse, and she finds solace and comfort in their closeness.
Growing up in happy families doesn’t mean that Abby and Sasha are perfect adults. They still struggle, like all of us, with how to build the future they want. It turns out that Abby isn’t being entirely truthful with Sasha. Abby is the millionaire heiress of a patrician Boston family; she works because she wants to, not because she has to. Abby originally hides her real identity because she wants to protect herself from gold diggers. Abby quickly realizes that Sasha is different, but now she’s painted herself into a corner and doesn’t know how to tell the truth.
I enjoyed the hot, fierce chemistry between Sasha and Abby. Abby thinks Sasha is the womanizer when they first meet; but that doesn’t mean Abby is a shy, retiring wallflower. Sasha thinks, “Abby has the filthiest mouth and mind ever. She had always prided herself on being a sexual being, but Abby brought it to a whole other level.” The sex is great, but as Sasha’s father becomes more ill, it’s clear that they also respect and support each other. They spend long nights getting to know each other and both hope that they’ve finally found “the one.”
The class conflict is well-handled. Sasha inadvertently makes some judgmental comments about rich, society women. Abby is warned by several people that she has to be honest with Sasha. Even though I understood where Abby was coming from, I really wanted to kick her in the pants for her lying. I was super invested in their relationship, but also wanted it to end up in a healthy, honest place. It’s clear from the beginning that the resolution of these conflicts would be painful for both heroines. This romance displays how easily inhibitions and fears can hold people back, and that it takes bravery and sometimes groveling to make things work.
My only major complaint about this book is the pacing. Plot-wise, there was way too much exposition. The brief interlude at the wedding where they dance and kiss happens in chapter six! They don’t go out on their first date until chapter ten, which is about 35% of the way through the book. At that point, I was so ready for them to actually interact, talk, flirt and BE with each other. That chapter ends with them sitting down in the restaurant, and the beginning of their date, but chapter eleven opens with, “Abby’s sides hurt from laughing. They had made it through dinner and were on to dessert.” All that build up and the details are lost in the margins! The romance between them doesn’t really heat up until probably the 50% mark. The beginning was drawn out and it didn’t develop the characters of Abby and Sasha more thoroughly; it just felt repetitive. It’s not terrible, it’s just slower than I expected, and I don’t think it does the story justice. I just wanted an editor to go in there and compress that first third, and help the author streamline or eliminate longer, contemplative passages. Once the romance torch gets lit, things moved along at a pleasing and crackling pace.
In my Borrow, Buy, Bye post from a few weeks ago, there was some interesting discussion in the comments about how more inclusive books, those without cis-het-white main characters, are higher priced. That is certainly the case for the previous two books in this series, which are $10 each. I will look for them at my library first, but I’m rethinking my hard upper limit of $8. If I truly want to support inclusive romance, then I should be willing to pay more for the authors and publishers that actually bring diverse stories to my Kindle. In this case, Bold Strokes Books specializes in “quality and diversity in LGBTQ literature.” This a publisher I want to support!
I enjoyed this book, despite the pacing issue. I was rooting for Abby and Sasha, not only to be together, but also that both of them would grow and change enough to find a true HEA. The supporting cast of family members, friends, and colleagues is charming and well-portrayed. I’m looking forward to more from Fiona Riley.
4.5 stars
This book was a lot of fun. Riley has created a series around a matchmaker, Samantha, who has a flare for matching people from different backgrounds, and this is Riley’s latest installment in the series. The first in the series is Miss Match, and the second is Unlikely Match. You don't need to read them in order though, as they stand alone as romances.
Sasha McCray loves being a firefighter. Striking, adventurous, and with a history of womanising behind her, Sasha is trying to find her perfect match.
Abby Rossmore is an accountant for a not-for-profit organisation, or so she says. Tired of attracting the wrong sort of women, Abby carefully avoids mentioning that she is the only daughter of a very wealthy family.
When Abby and Sasha meet at a wedding, their banter shimmers between them, and their dancing is electrifying. Terrified of losing such potential chemistry, and terrified of revealing themselves, will they ever really be able to connect?
Sasha is great fun as a character. A little messy, she is the adventurous woman we all want to be. Abby is a little harder to relate to, mostly due to her personality rather than her wealth. However, there is a lovely warmth in both characters, which was very charming. I really wanted them to work it out.
Riley is great at creating chemistry with her characters. There is enough of a slow burn to have lots of anticipation, without it taking forever for anything to actually happen. Riley’s got the mix right in this series, although this book probably has a few more sex scenes than the others in the series.
The setting was very modern, and there wasn’t too much excessive spending, which can be a little alienating for me with some ultra net worth book characters. The secondary characters, including Abby’s mum, were well written. They added to the story, helped the plot along, and revealed more about the main characters without ever taking the limelight.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a charming, light romance set in modern day, without any of the Trump crap. A lovely escape, in other words. Enjoy.
Advanced reading copy provided by NetGalley for an honest review.
Luckily enough I had just finished reading the previous two novels in this series so I was able to get right into this book. The series as a whole is a great easy read that I would recommend. This one is actually my favorite in the series and it's because of the two main characters and how relatable they are, Sasha especially. She's the first one that I felt was a real person because she wasn't super rich! Although Claire in the second book wasn't hugely rich, she was still well off and super successful in business. I liked that Sasha was a firefighter that had to work two jobs to help out her family. It just made me root for her that much more.
There is a formula to these books that this one follows to be honest. I'm not going to say anything further, as it's pretty obvious, but grand gestures has to do with it...
This book also has great side characters. Abby's Mom Edie and Sasha's parents are all very charming. And if you're a big fan of Samantha/Lucinda, they may a few appearances so you get to catch up with them.
Overall I'm really enjoying this series. Not sure if there will be more but I'm a new fan of the authors regardless!
This is the third book in the Perfect Match series. I have enjoyed them all, but I think this one was my favorite. Riley’s writing keeps improving and I liked that this was the steamiest book of the trilogy. You don’t have to read the other books before this one. While some of the characters from previous books are in this one, this story stands alone enough so you would not be lost. Personally, I would recommend reading them all, but only because it is an enjoyable series.
This book is Sasha’s story, the hot firefighter we knew a little from the previous books. Something about a woman in uniform, I can’t really pass up, so I was happy this book was about her. The other main Abby, I can’t recall her from the other books, but I could be wrong. Abby, comes from a wealthy family but hides behind a different last name so people don’t know. She wants someone to love her for her, not her money or power. When the two of them run into each other at a wedding, sparks fly. Is there a chance they are each other’s perfect match?
As other reviewers have mentioned, book 1 is romantic, book 2 sweet, this book was pretty steamy. I like how Riley was able to change it up for all three books. A lot of time writers make the romances similar in all the books of a series, this was a nice change. I also personally really enjoy steamy romances, so this book was right up my alley.
My only real complaint was the main angst of the book. You saw it coming a million miles away, so it was not a surprise at all. And because you could see it coming, you were reading the book waiting for the other shoe to drop, it took away a little of my enjoyment. Not enough to ruin the book or anything, but it is why I’m rating this 4 stars instead of 5. The rest of the book I really enjoyed so I’m not complaining too much.
If you are a fan of this series, or a romance fan, give this book a try. Riley keeps getting better and this is best book of the series. I can’t wait to read what Riley writes next.
An ARC was given to me by BSB, for a honest review.
A big thank you to NetGalley for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. I limped the cover and thought the title was cute. I admit I didn't read the blurb so my bad that I had no idea th a t this was a gay romance. I skipped some scenes but read most of the book-while not my cup of tea. I thought the story was good.
There are more stories to tell from the Miss Match series and I couldn't be happier. Book 3 stars Sasha whom we met in Book 2 when she briefly dated Shelley. Sasha literally bumps into another one of Shelley's former matches, Abby at Samantha and Lucinda's wedding. Their awkward and hilarious introduction sets the stage for the rest of their romance as they are both masters of sarcasm and sexual innuendo which becomes an accelerant on their hot attraction. Book 3 is by far the hottest of the series to date. These two run so hot their peaks are transcendent, but consequently their valleys are equal in devastation. It's an interesting juxtaposition that runs during the course of their romance. The writing is polished and the plot is solid with lots of humor swirled in with 5 alarm fire sexiness. This series continues to improve and I look forward to more stories from this expanding universe of characters.
I really liked the previous books in this series and this one did not disappoint. It was nice to meet all the previous characters again. It was a good idea to make Abby’s and Sasha’s first meeting at Samantha’s and Lucindas’s Wedding - I thought that was a clever idea to introduce them and to show their wedding. As with the previous coup[es, Sasha and Abby had great chemistry and both were equally likable. It was similar enough to the other books but still different that it didn’t seem repetitive. Throughout the book I thought it was funny how both kept turning to Samantha for every problem they had in their relationship instead to talk it out themselves- but I guess it was way to keep Samantha’s character in the story.
I would definitely recommend this book as a standalone or in the series - even though the series is too good not read all of them.
This is the third book in the matchmaker series, and features Sasha, who showed up briefly as a past date of Shelley’s in the second book and Abby, who also dated Shelley, but wasn’t actually a character in that book.
This is a fun read for the most part, the characters are engaging and have great chemistry. The way their relationship unfolds is both sweet and fun, and includes some great banter. Both sets of parents are also lovely and add to both the levity and the character building. Lucinda and Samantha also feature, (though Samantha shows up more) and their scenes are fun as well.
My only issue with the story was that obviously if one character is hiding something, it will bite them on the butt, and it does, although I was surprised this happened at the 3/4 mark, because it leads to the requisite breakup and those are usually left for right near the end. Unfortunately this was so another completely unnecessary breakup could be wedged in before the end. I could have lived without the second one, and the book could have done without it too, but the epilogue makes up for it.
I also give Ms Riley kudos for not doing something in the book that I was expecting the whole time (which I can’t mention here so as not to spoil the story), I love when authors surprise me.
Not sure if this is the last in this series, but I’ve enjoyed them all, and look forward to Ms Riley’s next book, whatever it is.
Hot, hot, hot, watch out or you might get burned. This is a read about finding self through self reflection, family and friendship. We want happiness and love but we tend to go about it in different and maybe usual ways for various reasons. Sasha McCray is attractive, hardworking and devoted to her mother and father; who by the way are caring and adorable in their interaction with each other and Sasha. Abby Rossmore is consciousness, careful and looking for love with someone that cares about her and not her millions. Her mother is so very caring and supportive of her daughter even when she makes some not so bright moves. Refreshing read because of family, friends, dating service, and finding love.
Another great romance from Fiona Riley. Strike a match is all levels of hot and provides enough information into the world of firefighting and non profit organizations to keep it interesting.
The banter between the leads and their respective parents is hilarious and warm (if you get my drift).
On to the story beyond the blurb. We first read about Sasha and Abby in Unlikely Match. Both were near perfect matches for Shelly the computer genius. Turns out they both missed out on each other at all the mixers Samantha setup for them. These two meet at Samantha's wedding and manage to hit it off and before Sasha manages to insult Abby. Anyhow, a searing makeup kiss later it's up to miss match to set them up together.
Abby has issues with revealing herself to others and Sasha doesn't trust the affluent and rich as she thinks they live in their own bubble. Both come from different worlds and have insecurities to overcome yet both value family and want a love that ensures like their parents.
This is a wonderful read and shouldn't be missed.
Discovering a new author is always a challenge, specially when it comes to Romance. That is the main reason why I am always hesitant to find a new author, the formula for this genre can be a tricky one to achive, and that is why I was pleasantly surprised when I read Miss Match by Fiona Riley.
Fiona delivers Romance is a way that is fresh, witty and the perfect dose of sexy, she has easily become one of my favorite authors, and knowing she kept up with the Perfect Match series was enough to keep me on my toes up until the next book.
One of the things that made me appreciate the series, was that regardless of this being the third installment, we still get to follow out favorite characters from previous books, making you see from the sideline how their relationship has grown and evolved.
Personally, seeing how far Samantha and Lucinda have come, made me appreciate the book a bit more. I loved this couple and seeing how their relationship evolved up to this instalment made me fall even more with the characters, and in a way, I felt as if I was part of their world and made me feel as if I knew a private joke nobody else knew.
One of the things I found remarkable, was how the secondary characters did not take away from the main couple, which in this case was Sasha and Abby. Sasha is hot tempered and bold as it comes, that is why her chemistry with Abby was off charts from the start. Their romance was fast but not rushed, and the book kept me on my toes up until the very end.
I read this book in one sitting and can honestly say that when I was done, I was left wanting more.
This was another win for Fiona. I will now go back to read Miss Match and Unlikely Match.until her next book comes out.
Fiona Riley always gives us a good story. I can absolutely, unequivocally say I am a huge fan of her Match series. The first one was super romantic, the second adorably cute, the third well, awe holy hell it was HOT. Smoking hot!
Sasha McCray is a firefighter and sometimes bartender/waitress for a high-end catering company. She works her tail off to give her parents every penny she can. An accident involving a house fire decades ago left her father with a significant health issue that has compounded medical bill after medical bill. She is doing everything she can to keep her parents in their home and their worries at bay.
Abby Rossmore wouldn’t have to work a day in her life. This woman was born into one of the richest families in America. Doesn’t mean she doesn’t work though, quite the contrary. Abby has taken to running her family’s charitable foundation as the non-profit’s chief accountant. Abby doesn’t like the attention being a Davenport brings her. She never knows when she meets someone if they are interested in her, her money or her family’s connections.
Sasha and Abby end up meeting meet at a Lucinda and Samantha’s wedding. These two had met previously through book number two’s character Shelly’s date mixer. When they meet this time sparks fly with sexual tension. Abby is convinced Sasha is a womanizer and Sasha think Abby is just an accountant. With a whole lot of heat and a little bit of deceit, this book will make you fly through the pages. It's sexy, it’s cute and it will hold your attention to the very last sentence. This is a fantastic book, with delightful characters, and chemistry for days. Like I said this book is smoking hot! 5 stars
