Firstly thanks to netgalley for an arc of this book - the 7th in the fabulous Kim Stone series!
I once again devoured this book virtually overnight! Following the murder of a young prostitute and the discover of an abandoned baby outside the police station - Kim Stone and her team are back in action. These seemingly separate cases become entwined as more prostitutes are murdered and the team find themselves embroiled in the seedy underground world of illegal immigrants, grooming, sex slaves and degradation.
I thoroughly enjoyed all the sub plots, the twists and turns and the very real imagery - this is a gritty thriller that does not disappoint !! I cannot wait to meet Kim & co again in the next book.
I can't believe this is already book 7 in the Kim Stone series, and still I can't get enough!
Each and every investigation Kim leads gets very personal very quickly, and how she aptly reminisced at the end of the story "boy I love my job".
Well done on another brilliant book, I can't wait to get stuck into the next one!
Highly recommended.
BROKEN BONES (D.I. Kim Stone, #7) by Angela Marsons is an intricately woven web of clues under investigation by Kim and her team that brings together international sex slavery, illegal immigrant exploitation and prostitution into a realistic and brutally honest story. Once again, I can highly recommend this book and series!
Thank you to Netgalley, the Publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in return for my honest opinion.
This was a great read! Why have I not heard of this series before? I am now going to have to rush out and get the first books in this series and obviously read any subsequent books. I love D.I. Kim Stone, what a great character! This book had me on the edge of my seat, and the ending what a surprise. Loved it!
Wow! Another five star read from Angela Marsons!
What a terrific series, as I turn the last page of each book I am always a little sad that it is finished, but then eagerly await the next.
Kim Stone is a great character and a good Cop. The way she goes about unravelling each case is a real observation in detective work and a credit to this author.
In Broken Bones Kim Stone is faced with another testing case which begins on a very cold winter night when an abandoned baby is delivered to an ill equipped officer at the police station, and soon after a prostitute is found murdered in a local street.
Are the two linked?
With no apparent motive and no clear clues to either case, Kim Stone once again has her work cut out for her in trying to unravel these two mysteries at the same time as an old acquaintance from her past starts to give her cause for concern.
Another edge of your seat read in this Kim Stone series. Angela Marsons never runs out of thrilling plots and surprising twists...I am already looking forward to the next installment in this series.
Many thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and the author for my copy to read and review.
Wow! Another excellent read in the Kim Stone series. This one blew me away and was impressive on a number of levels. Ms. Marsons has chosen to highlight how young women are coerced into prostitution and also set up for trafficking. Although there are a number of young women in the book, there was a focus on Ellie who was set up by someone pretending to befriend her. It was almost like watching a movie where you tell the character don't go there. You know the person is bad but she successfully fools Ellie. This felt very realistic.
There are two mysteries in this book being investigated side by side by Kim's team. The book's description is excellent - so I won't repeat. I enjoyed both mysteries, the clues her team find and the resolutions. The ending was awesome.
Due to the subject matter, there is an underlying sad truth that we face. While I safely read this book, someone was being abused, someone was being sold and someone was being trafficked. Well actually more than 1 someone. I appreciated Ms. Marson's portrayal and sensitive handling of this subject matter.
Thanks to Net Galley and Bookouture for an ARC.
Full review on my blog soon!
Eeek! What a bloody good story with delicious devious characters and the fabulous DI Kim Stone and her team to sort those offenders out! The prologue gripped me from the start and I raced through this book, staying up way past my bed time to finish it!
Compelling, Unputdownable and absolutely heart-racing, I have no problem shouting out that this is a MUST READ!
Gritty ang gripping story that is part of a series. Great plot with enough twists to satisfy the most demanding of thriller readers. Lovely characters, each with their own flaws and back stories. Recommended
I absolutely love Angela's Detective Kim Stone series. Book 7 is just as good as the others. In this installment there are a couple of cases going on rather than just one and I enjoyed Kevin and Stacey out in the field together rather than being in the office. I love the team's relationship towards each other and I would love Kim as a boss! Her character is my favourite but love her partner Bryant and how they get on and read each other's minds, they know what each other is thinking. I also like the fact the chapters are short and sharp, wanting you to read more, keeps you gripped from start to finish. I didn't guess who abandoned the baby at the police station, or who was killing the women, I never do! Another fab book and can't wait for the next one. My only worry is how many more books will there be, I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have one of these books to read! Thank you for accepting my request to review this book, roll on the next one!
What an awesome thriller/mystery! Took me awhile to read this BUT man need to go back and get my fanny reading more of this series. I have flip flopped haha. I read 1-2 and then went to 7 haha.
Overall, loved it!
4 stars! :)
Thank you to Bookouture for the arc!
There is a reason why I absolutely love Angela Marsons’ books. With every book next in the row, she is getting better and better! And every time she leaves me with my jaw dropped to the floor! I love her main character, I love her team, I even love the bad guys in her stories. But mostly, I love the most trilling plots she creates that make me turn the pages faster and faster! So, here are my thoughts for D.I.Kim Stone #7 in the series. Enjoy!
The story starts with a murder of a young prostitute. At the same time, a baby is abandoned. But the investigation shows that the woman whose body has been found is not the mother of the abandoned child. The police is in a desperate search for the mother of the baby that according to the blanket has Eastern-European origin.
One prostitute is found dead. Then another one, then the third one. Each one dies with more violent death than the previous one. But, there is a pattern in the killings! Kim Stone and her team are on the track of something bigger. A serial killer!
It is not just a search for a serial killer. The author dives deep into the world of human trafficking and modern slavery. She vividly describes the lives of the immigrants from Eastern Europe who come to UK for better life, but they end up into the hands of mafia. Broken dreams, physical tortures, never-ending debts and suffering. People who don’t exist. No one to complain to, no one to ask help from. And if you don’t exist, no one will ask for you, no one will looking for you, no one will be there to bury your body. Slavery is not dead.
What a story! Mrs. Marsons is an excellent storyteller and plot twister! She combined two stories to create an amazing and page-turning thriller that I wasn’t able to put down till the last page! There were moments when the hair on my neck literally stood up. I absolutely love Kim Stone Series and can’t wait for the next one! Totally recommended!
A young street worker is murdered, and a baby left on the steps of the police station, and Detective Kim Stone comes across it on a cold, snowy night.
The local protitutes are suffering, murders happening and girls going missing, and they are scared, but still out there trying to earn a living.
The two crimes intertwine, and a missing teenager also come to light, but how does she fit into the equasion.
The search is undertaken for the baby’s mother, which leads the investivage team to a world of human trafficking, explotation and cruelty, which bring out Kim’s past and the secrets it holds.
A few twists and turns, page gripping and a great story to read.
D.I.Kim Stone is a rather well-known character (especially to crime(book)lovers)And this is the seventh in the series. The book consist of several storylines that do relate(more or less)to each other. There is a serial killer targeting sex workers,an abandoned baby,a frozen unknown man, illegal workers and a missing young girl. And although it works it is also the main problem. Four policepeople (including D.I.Stone) take on this whole load of misery. It just doesn't feel right. There is just too much going on.
Mind you,the outcome of one of the cases is surprising and very interesting.
I received a copy of this via #NetGalley.
It’s another great one. I truly enjoyed it. I will read more from this series.
DI Kim Stone is back in the 7th book of this series. This whole series is rock solid and once again Angela Masrons delivers a storyline that leaves you gripping the table for support. Thankfully she and Bryant are back together (they are my favourite comedy duo) I adore their friendship and they way they bounce off each other. Dawson and Stacey are working on a different assignment but they still get their fair share of coverage in the book. The Team as a whole are so easy to relate to the characters are believable and work really well together and I couldn’t imagine any of them without the rest of them.
The book opens when Kim finds a baby on the front door step of the police station I loved how for the reader and for her colleagues this was pure comedy. But all too soon a call comes in that a 16 year old has been found dead after a fall from a high rise building. When it comes to light that the girl was a prostitute and more working girls turn up dead the story takes a dark turn with murder, trafficking, illegal immigrants and modern-day slavery.
Marsons has a knack for going for the hard story, taking issues that are relevant and hard hitting and weaving them seamlessly into her story.
This was a fantastic read.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for a copy of this book to read and review
Another great thriller starring DI Kim Stone and her team.
This story addresses difficult issues, including sex workers, child prostitutes and the exploitation of immigrant workers. Well done to Angela Marsons for pulling it all together into a fast read that had me turning the pages.
As usual, Kim is outstanding in her morals and has to (occasionally) go against the rules in the name of justice.
The members of her team get a bigger share of the story in this one, with Dawson and Stacey involved in the case of an abandoned baby and migrant workers, whilst Kim and Bryant are investigating the murder of a number of women. There’s also the case of a missing teenager that is thrown in and we follow the teenager’s story which becomes more and more gripping as time goes on.
All of the threads come together in surprising ways and Kim has the insight to join up the dots and find out the real killers.
Another great instalment of the Kim Stone series.
This time, Kim and her team get involved with a series of murders of prostitutes and uncover a modern slavery ring; plenty of work to get stuck into, for anyone! As usual, this author has a knack of talking about the worst of human behaviours and getting us to really think about what goes on behind closed doors in the community.
I thought it was a great book and it was good to see Kim back with her usual team (with one addition).
I give this book 4.5 stars.
Looking forward to the next book already :)
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture. All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
I have never read any previous books by this author so wondered how I would fare as this is book 7 of a series....it didnt matter at all and from the first page this was a captivating and exciting book, its a bit cliche to say but it was ‘nail biting’ and feally kept my interest until the last page,I have been missing out not reading Angela Marsons books and reading this book has made me want to read the other 6......a really good read
Bookouture and NetGalley provided me with an electronic copy of Broken Bones. I was under no obligation to review this book and my opinion is freely given.
Broken Bones is the seventh book featuring Detective Inspector Kim Stone, a law enforcement professional whose zeal to right the wrongs in society sometimes skirts the line of legality. At the center of criminal activity in her town is Kai Lord, head of the Hollytree gang. Although his main sources of income are drugs and prostitution, Kai has been known to loan out money with devastating consequences for the lessee. With people turning up dead and an abandoned baby left at the station, will DI Stone be able to put the pieces together in time to save other possible victims?
Broken Bones deals with issues of modern slavery, human trafficking, indentured servitude, and suicide. As is usually the case with the DI Kim Stone novels, readers are treated to a small glimpse into Stone's past. There is just enough background to give the book more depth, without taking away from the central plot. Readers who are new to the series will be able to read Broken Bones with little trouble, but the nuances of the main characters would be lost. With a good ending twist, I would recommend Broken Bones to readers who like mystery thrillers and suspense.
