There aren’t enough stars to give this series. I regularly recommend this series to friends and even strangers!
5 massive stars
Thanks to Bookouture for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is the seventh book in Angela Marsons' D.I. Kim Stone series and while I think this book could be read as a stand alone, you would be doing yourself and the series a disservice if you did not start at the beginning of the series; Silent Scream, Evil Games, Lost Girls, Play Dead, Blood Lines and Dead Souls.
It was going to be a busy night for D.I. Kim Stone with the murder of a prostitute and Kim discovering an abandoned baby outside police headquarters. Then three more prostitutes are murdered in quick succession with each death more violent than the last. At the same time multiple women are coming forward claiming that the child is theirs, but things are not adding up as to why the baby was left where it was and something more sinister is afoot. Kim's team is going to be split up and bring the team in contact with some of the worst of the worst of humankind.
This was an interesting addition to the series and it is nice to see that Marsons has not yet run out of ideas as well as twists and turns. (I did not see the ones that happened at the end which is always a high point for me). Although the victim choice in this book may be typical of "these' type of mystery books, prostitutes; I like that Marsons added more background to their situations as to why and how the women became part of this type of lifestyle, adding more of a human factor to them instead of just a victim/body. It was also interesting how the baby aspect unfolded when all the pieces were there and it felt like a very real situation that probably happens more than we think.
I never thought that I would say this but there was a little bit too much of the secondary characters within this book that I felt that we didn't get as much face time with Kim. Kim is one of the main reasons that I read this series and while I like Stacey and Dawson as characters, their characters do not hold a light to Kim. I also want to see Kim advance more as a person and professionally. She has had some big strides within these books but I am wanting more from her so she does not begin to seem flat and predictable. Though I will say Kim with the baby and was pretty funny and the lack confidence her team have is also funny.
I always look forward to see what Marsons' can come up with next and each time her creativity surprises me. Seven books in and we have yet to have repeat plot or formula, so as long as Marsons keeps writing I'll keep reading.
Enjoy!!!
Another fantastic installment in Kim Stone's story. Love, love, loved it!
Excellent book. Brilliant story and I loved the main characters. I would highly recommend this book.
Having read others in this series, I was not disappointed with this latest edition. Great writing as always and a thrilling plot.
Kim Stone is the original anti hero for me! I love her way of seeing and dealing with things in these books! This one will not disappoint, AN abandoned child and a murder seemingly unconnected leads Kim to uncover a horrifying Slavery ring! Gripping, thrilling and unputdownable!
Bad weather stops many things but never crime and desperation. On the same evening a prostitute is murdered and a baby abandoned. Kim Stone's team is split to investigate both. Soon more prostitutes are murdered leading Stone and Bryant to believe they are dealing with a potential serial killer....but the deeper the delve the more complicated the case becomes. Meanwhile Dawson and Stacey find links between the abandoned baby and a local factory staffed entirely by Romanians. Why won't the owner let them speak to his staff? Soon they also have a murder to investigate, but are met by a wall of silence.
All hail Angela Marsons, who in my humble opinion is the queen, no actually the empress of thrillers. As always this is a fast paced crime thriller, with Stone and co's continuing story as compulsive as ever. Even streaming eyes and a dose of the flu wasn't enough to stop me devouring this. But what I particularly liked about this book was the underlying comparison of several types of modern slavery....there's the obvious such as prostitution and forced labour. But then there's the less obvious, guilt....Stone's guilt at escaping her poor start in life when others didn't, a mothers guilt for not understanding their daughter, a man's guilt for pride getting in the way of protecting a colleague....I'd go on but I feel I've given enough away! My point is though this book is multi layered and I genuinely believe that this series stands out from the rest because of it. My only sadness is the discovery that Angela Marsons is contracted to write eight of these novels so in theory the next part will be the last. I really hope not as this really has the legs to go on. Just quite simply a fantastic series.
Wow.....another fantastic installment to the Kim Stone series. I really hope it doesnt end anytime soon. I could read this series over and over again.
This series is always one that I very much look forward to and I have thoroughly enjoyed the rollercoaster of a ride thus far. We get to book seven and for me this was probably the weakest of the series so far.
DI Stone finds herself investigating the murder of a prostitute and the discovery of an abandoned baby on the same night. Over the course of the novel more prostitutes are murdered and what transpires is a book about human slavery and entrapment.
So, why only three stars for this book in a series that has always gained four or five stars from me? Honestly..... I don't know. All the usual ingredients were there. DI Stone and her sidekick, Bryant. And it was good to see Dawson and Stacey given bigger roles. They're tasked with the abandoned baby case. It took some time for the book to get going with a fair few characters to get your head around. The book really takes off I would say in the last quarter but it wasn't enough for me to think this as good was as what's gone on before. That said, I would ALWAYS read a book by Angela Marsons from this series. There is some damn fine writing to be found throughout her books and I totally love the books as a collective. Anyone can find themselves not connecting with the odd book in any series. Out of seven ..... one, is not that bad!! Many others have loved this book so this is wholly down to my reflection.
My thanks for to all for my ARC received. Much appreciated.
Another fantastic instalment from Kim Stone and her team. As soon as I finish one I want to read Another, crime writing at its best.
Wow! I’ve just finished reading this book and what a fantastic read. One of the best in the Kim Stone series. I especially loved watching the relationship between Stacey and Dawson develop and being able to get to know the characters better! Well done Angela Marsons, I loved it. Thoroughly recommend.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for my advance copy in return for an honest review.
There’s so much going on in this story. A young prostitute is found dead and a tiny baby is found outside the police station. The team is split up as Kim and Bryant investigate the case of the prostitute and Stacey and Kev try to find the mother of the abandoned baby. What follows is one heck of a rollercoaster ride of emotions. I went from horror to anger to having a lump in my throat as these investigations lead to such heartbreaking and sadly all too realistic scenarios like grooming, entrapment, prostitution and modern slavery.
Utterly gripping and compelling, taut with suspense and with various threads to keep me hooked, Broken Bones kept me on the edge of my sofa. This series has some brilliant character development and I couldn’t possibly love this team and its camaraderie any more than I already do. No spoilers obviously, but I had an “aaawww” moment and there were also a few chuckles.
Broken bones by angela marsons.
Kim stone and her team are back.
An abandoned baby left outside the station. A body is found. Kelly rowe is the victim. Will there be more? Will kim find the murderer? Will she find the mother of the baby? Are they linked?
Absolutely fantastic read. Loved the story and the characters. I didn't expect that. Shocked. I love kim and how she always catches the perps. Highly recommended. 5*
A year later after reading my first Angela Marsons book, I'm finally up to date with the series. The "Kim Stone" journey has been fantastic and this is already one of my favorite series ever, I'm so happy that we have plenty of books ahead to look for!
This last one, perhaps because it was my most recent, was equally impressive. An abandoned baby, murdered prostitutes... and an ending I never saw coming. Plus, Stacey and Dawson got to be partners and I loved their interactions in this book. And Dawson's secret broke my heart. Did I mention how much I love him? Of course, Bryant and Stacey are great characters as well, Bryant is perhaps the most perfect man there is :)
Here's to 25 more books featuring Kim Stone and her team!
Finished this one in a day - couldn’t put it down. Kim Stone and her team investigate when a baby is abandoned at the station. The investigation leads to the body of a man discovered by the canal - he was injured and had been left there to die in the cold. The team are also investigating the murder of a young woman who was making her living as a prostitute. Stone is convinced her pimp is involved and would like nothing better than to arrest him. The two investigations involve illegal immigration, the grooming of young girls and their trafficking to other countries as well as murder. A fantastic read from start to finish - loved it!
Thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and Angela Marsons for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I just love this author! This book did not disappoint. The plot had me hooked from the beginning.
Another brilliant crime thriller by Angie Marsons that ticks all the boxes. I know from the minute I open the book that I am in for one hell of a treat. From the offset, I was chuckling as I swiped the pages of my kindle, as Kim Stone's wry sense of humour came through. The banter about the 'three wise men' made me laugh out loud, but I'm going to let you discover that little gem for yourself. Kim Stone has earned her place in the hearts of crime readers all over the world, and it is easy to see why. Her dry wit and huge heart are encompassed by a frosty exterior that only her most trusted colleagues get to see beyond.
Author Angie Marsons perfectly crafts each Kim Stone novel with its fair share of twists and turns, revelations and suspense. Broken Bones is another brilliant instalment in this series and I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next.
I got a little confused with the characters in this book, but a few chapters in it all started to make sense. I really enjoyed the pace of the story and the strong characters. It deals with up to date problems and a current story line. Very enjoyable
always enjoy reading angela marsons books. great to have a series to follow with characters that develop in each book .
Angela Marsons - a powerhouse in the world of crime authors! I think she is possibly one of my favourites now! Every book she brings out is a massive hit!"
The Kim stone series is crime reading at its best. She is highly addictive!
This book tells the story of a killer who is murdering prostitues and to top it all , a dead baby is found. What could possibly be the link between the 2 if any! Kim and her team are on the case and keen to stop this happening to any more young girls. The deaths are violent and hard hitting abnd Kim must figure things out - and quickly!!!" Things don't turn out too well and Kim is soon putting her own life at risk!
To found out more, you need to read this fast paced book - and read it soon!
