I'm a fan of this series like many others and was looking forward to installment number 7. The murder of a young prostitute Kelly Rowe is the main focus of this latest book however this may seem like a bog standard story line which has done many times before but as usual Angela Marson's has an amazing way of depicting a story line and making it so much more real, by and large by how good the characters are. Kim's colleagues Kev, Stacey and Bryant are back where they belong in the middle of the team and in the thick of the plot. These guys make a cracking team and they each have their part to play in these books.
In addition to the murder of Kelly Rowe an abandoned baby is left at the station and also becomes and integral part of the story. It seems the team have their hands full and as usual it makes for a compelling read. The story line itself is not the nicest of subjects but is done in a way that draws the reader in. There is quite a lot of action going on with this latest book but for me I loved the fact that it felt like we got to know Stacey and Kev that little bit more.
I read this in two sittings because the writing flows so well and it's such an easy and enjoyable read. However, for me this wasn't my favourite of the series so far. There was absolutely nothing wrong with this book, I guess I just have such high expectations as Angie Marson's is such an amazing author. This is definitely a series I would recommend.
I love the entire Kim Stone series. Thank you to Angela Marsons for writing such a strong female character. Broken Bones, like the previous books in the series, takes you on a journey full of twists and turns. Just when you think you know, Marsons takes a sharp turn in another direction.
Wow, what can I say? Angela Marsons has done it again! Book 7 in the Kim Stone series is every bit as good as its predecessors. In fact, I would even go as far as saying it’s the best one yet. With twists and turns that keep you guessing throughout, this is a psychological thriller I could not put down. A fantastic 5 stars.
BROKEN BONES (D.I. Kim Stone, #7) by Angela Marsons is an intricately woven web of clues under investigation by Kim and her team that brings together international sex slavery, illegal immigrant exploitation and prostitution into a realistic and brutally honest story. Once again, I can highly recommend this book and series!
It is Christmas and as D.I. Kim Stone is leaving the station, she finds a baby abandoned on the steps. As the team comes together to watch Kim deal with a baby, a call comes through for Kim and her team of a murdered prostitute. As Kim and Bryant follow the trail of clues, they get pulled into a world of not only prostitution, but also the grooming and entrapment of young girls into modern day slavery and gangs.
At the same time, Stacey and Dawson investigate to find the mother of the abandoned baby. Their investigation leads to a factory of Romanian workers that just does not seem quite right and a dead Romanian man, who appears to be a vagrant. As they work the clues, they are introduced to a world of illegal immigrants forced into indebtedness that will never be overcome and is therefore just a form of slavery.
At first, there appear to be too many threads to follow and I was not sure of how all of the plotlines would come together, but under the deft plotting of Ms. Marsons everything all tied together beautifully with a very surprising ending. I believe all of the issues covered throughout this book were handled with truth and empathy, including the revelations in the main characters lives. Kim, Bryant, Stacey and Dawson are a realistic group of investigators/characters that have all grown in various ways throughout this series. Another great addition to the series that can be read as a standalone, but I believe if you give it a try, you will become as hooked as I am and read the whole series.
Thanks very much to Bookouture and Net Galley for allowing me to read this eARC in exchange for an honest review. I hope this series continues on for many years to come!
Brilliant. Angela Marsons really knows how to write a thriller. This is a brilliant series and I hope there will be more. Fast paced the whole way through. The short chapters add to the suspense. I read this book in one sitting. I was utterly gripped from the start. There is so much action packed into this book. Right up to the end there are surprises in the plot. This book is definitely worth reading.
Broken Bones, book 7 in the Kim Stones series finds her trying to solve the murders of sex workers and she also finds herself trying to find the mother of an abandoned baby left at the station.Back with her usual team after book 6 saw Kim without them, the two investigations become more and more complex and chilling and she is forced to confront her own horrific past as the killings continue. The book builds to a thrilling climax which keeps you guessing as do all of Angela Marsons books in this excellent series,if like me you have read all 7 books you know what to expect and that is a great police thriller which will have you turning the pages well into the night rooting for Kim and her team !! As usual another 5 star read from Angela Marsons.
Angela Marsons has done it again with another fantastic book in the DI Kim Stone series . This is the 7th book in the series and they just keep getting better and better .
In this book Kim and her deal are dealing with murder, prostitution, human trafficking a sex ring , a missing person and an abandoned baby . Are these crimes related or not ?
This is a book I guarantee you won’t be able to put down once you start it. A massive five stars from me .
Kim Stone never disappoints. Another great read in an addictive series.
Angie marsons writes with passionately and has one of the best written female lead characters
While I wasn't as fond of this book as some of her others it had a wonderful story that really is easy to get into
Another corker from Angie Marsons! I could not put it down. The stories get more unpleasant and the writing just draws you in ...it was absolutely brilliant.
Lots of apparently unconnected threads that come together in a crescendo. Angela Marsons writes with a punch and panache - and your love grows with each book for the complex character that is Kim Stone.
A must-read. Do it now!
I always look forward to a new Kim Stone book, and this doesn’t disappoint.
It’s straight in to several seemingly unconnected story lines, including a Polish man being left to die beside a canal, an abandoned baby, a young girl being groomed online, another girl falling of the roof of a tower block.
Kim’s team are all involved, along with a new temporary member, Penn, allowing Stacey to spend more time in the field, rather than online.
Real-life modern issues are addressed, the dangers of social media, people trafficking, slavery, and illegal workers, the safety of sex workers, and we get a glimpse of how immigration investigations work.
There are some truly evil characters, and some such as Len, who are trying to turn their lives around.
The pace is non-stop with plenty of action, and danger for the team, but it all comes to a satisfying and thought-provoking conclusion.
Bring on the next book!
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book.
I've just finished reading this book and all I can say is WOW!!! Angela Marsons has done it again! But how does she do it time and time again? We're already at the seventh book in the series now and the author's energy and drive to write high-quality thrillers seem to be as strong as ever. Broken Bones is yet another absolutely gripping thriller that kept me entranced from start to finish.
In this book, DI Kim Stone and her team are on the hunt for a serial killer who has targeted the local prostitutes. This case takes Kim to sniff out the trail of some vile ruthless men. But can she catch the killer before more women are killed? Also Kim finds herself in a very alien situation for her when she finds a baby deposited outside the police station in freezing temperatures. Kim and her team's reaction on the discovery of the baby just made me laugh. But this is serious. Who would abandon their own child like this? Why?
Having been entrusted by Woody to solve the baby case as well as the murders, Kim is provided with a temporary addition to the team. But even so she's desperate to try and solve these cases in the shortest time possible. In their own way, both cases will prove very challenging and will lead Kim and her team inside the dark dangerous world of modern day slavery, human trafficking and illegal immigration.
Wow! Okay, this book made me skip lunch twice - and that's saying something. I found myself deeply engrossed in the story for hours on end swiping the pages and wanting to know what happens next. All chapters are short and many end in cliffhangers leaving me wanting more every time.
The plot is fast-paced and divided into two main sub-plots - one that focuses on Kim and Bryant as they try and solve the prostitute murders, and the other with Stacy and Dawson as they team up to identify the child's mother. Both sub-plots are intricate and full of twists, turns and red herrings that make for a very interesting and engaging read. I certainly wasn't expecting the baby's story to develop the way it does.
Over the years Kim Stone has become my favourite fictional character. She's cheeky, bold, brash and audacious...I just love her! She, Bryant, Dawson and Stacy form a great team. They complement each other perfectly and are all very realistic. As always Kim made me explode with laughter from time to time with her witty retorts and comments.
The author has the knack for sowing doubts in the reader's already suspicious mind. I had some suspects in mind, but couldn't for the life of me decide who was the killer. When the identity was revealed at the end (and oh my! What an ending!) I was stunned! I couldn't have guessed who it was in a hundred years! And this is something I always hope happens in all the books I read. It's so frustrating when I manage to guess correctly the perpetrator's identity early on in a story. But hey, with the brilliant Angela Marsons there's no chance of that ever happening. The final part had my heart racing like an F1 car and at the end everything is wrapped up nicely in a neat little bow. Again the way I like my endings.
In my opinion, the DI Kim Stone series is one of the best (if not THE best!) crime thriller series out there and I highly recommend it. Broken Bones is yet another absolutely brilliant addition to this series and worthy of a whole set of stars from me.
With thanks to the author for writing such a thrilling read and for Bookouture publishers for approving my request for an ARC of this book to read and review.
Broken Bones by Angela Marsons is the seventh book in the D.I. Kim Stone series. Kim Stone is ready to go home, but her car has decided not to start. She is heading back inside the station house when she finds a baby outside. Kim quickly calls DS Bryant to the station to assist (who cannot help but call his colleagues). Kim assigns Stacey and Dawson the abandoned baby case and heads out with Bryant to investigate a new homicide. Kelly Rowe, a down-on-her luck single mum, was found murdered. This is just the first in a series of killings of prostitutes who work on Tavistock Road. It leads Kim to encounter two people from her past. Meanwhile, Stacey and Dawson are trying to track down the individual who abandoned the baby at the police station. Their only clue is a Romanian shawl that the baby was wrapped in. This clue leads them down the trail of the Robertson’s who employees Romanian workers. Something is not right in that factory and it is hope to Kim’s team to uncover the truth.
Broken Bones is well-written and captivating. I was immediately drawn in to the story and I did not want to stop reading. The story is full of twists (I just loved it). I found the story to be fast paced with loads of action. I am glad that more of Kim’s past is revealed in Broken Bones. In each new book in the series, we get a glimpse into Kim Stone’s history. I like seeing a softer side of Kim with her dog, Barney. I also appreciate the banter between Kim and her team members. Broken Bones does contain British slang and some words are spelled differently (than how we spell them in America). It does not take away from the story and the meaning of the words can be construed from the text. There is some foul language in the book (fair warning). I do not recommend reading Broken Bones as a stand-alone. Each book in the D.I. Kim Stone series builds upon the previous one. You need to read the books in order. It will help you to understand Kim and her team. I am rating Broken Bones 5 out of 5 stars (I loved it). The revelation of the murderer was the best part. It will surprise most readers.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the eARC.
The 7th installment in the DI Kim Stone series is another excellent, thrilling read. Although I would recommend reading the series from the beginning, this can easily be enjoyed as a standalone.
To my delight, Stone is teamed up with Bryant again. DS Dawson and DC Stacey are partnered as well and the two teams are hard at work on cases that may or may not be connected.
Stone discovers a baby abandoned outside the station on a freezing December night. As she desperately phones around for help (babies seem to terrify her!), she's called out to the scene of a murdered prostitute.
Soon more prostitutes are found killed and it's obvious a serial killer is at work. Dawson and Stacey are tasked with finding the mother of the abandoned baby and end up questioning the owners of a factory whose workers are all Rumanian. There is a definite Rumanian angle: the baby, covered in an original Rumanian shawl; the horribly mangled body of a man found frozen to death, with the remains of a typical Rumanian meal in his stomach, and the palpable fear of the girls working at the factory, smack of people trafficking, slavery and forced labor.
The plight of desperate people fleeing desperate lives to find a better future, but instead ending up in a living hell, is the focus of this book. It's a depressing look at a reality hidden in plain sight. Obviously well researched; Angela Marsons, who has gone from strength to strength, tackles the subject with sensitivity and empathy.
The supportive relationships between the 4 detectives is a delight and I loved learning more about Stone's painful past.
What a great series! Generally I don't like serial killer series, but somehow the Kim Stone books are different. They lack the 'murder porn' slant, giving us thoughtful, well written thrillers you can't put down. And leave you impatient for the next one...
BROKEN BONES WRITTEN BY ANGELA MARSONS
DETECTIVE INSPECTOR KIM STONE, #7
This is the seventh installment in the phenomenal Angela Marsons creative Detective Inspector Kim Stone Series. This one did not disappoint. This series continues to get better and better. This can be read and enjoyed as a stand alone, but I would recommend starting with the first one in the series called SILENT SCREAM. This one starts off with a page turning Prologue. On Christmas day DI Kim Stone finds an abandoned baby. Kim and Bryant are back working together in perfect synchrony and Stacey and Kevin Dawson are working together. We learn more background information about Kevin in this latest installment.
As soon as this one became available I requested it and put my other reading on the back burner. This latest installment kept me reading. This is my favorite Detective series. Kim Stone is formidable, independent, vulnerable and her team keeps revealing and evolving with each new book.
What starts out as a search for the mother of the baby turns sinister as the team uncovers prostitution, slavery, debts and a serial killer. Highly addictive reading as each chapter alternates between Kim and Bryant onto the next with Kevin and Stacey. I didn't see the explosive ending coming. Highly recommended!!!!!
Thank you to Net Galley, Angela Marsons and Bookouture for providing me with my ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
I like the dysfunctional characters in these books. The protagonist is Detective Kim Stone is strong but not without flaws.
The case starts with a prostitute murdered and baby dropped off at the station. Are the two cases linked?
You do not have to of read the previous novels to read this one although if you have you will have a deeper knowledge of the characters.
I read this in one sitting and will be eagerly awaiting the next instalment!

Wow Angela Marsons never fails to disappoint, a truly talented amazing author. I have loved every book in this series they just seem to get better with each book written. One again, this book has me hooked from the start, great characters and was addictive reading with plenty of drama and moments where I held my breath eager to know more.
Angela is definitely one of my favourite authors and anyone who is yet to discover her books will be in for a treat, the Kim Stone series of book is one not to be missed for any crime fiction fan. Every book is a page turner, gripping from start to finish...highly recommended!
I can't wait to read the next book and the next....
Thank you!
Thank you!
An interesting and unusual story line, make this a difficult book to put down. My second Kim Stone read, the first in distant past but look forward to reading more investigations by this detective. Would recommend this book to other crime story addicts!
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for my copy.
Welcome back Kim Stone and her team.
There aren't many authors that can carry my interest and achieve 5 stars this long in a series. Angela Marsons just keeps getting better and better.
Kim finds an abandoned baby on the same night a prostitute is brutally murdered. Stacey and Dawson are tasked with trying to find the mother and hopefully reunite the pair. Their investigation leads them to a factory full of Romanian workers. It proves very difficult to extract any information out of the workers who are frightened and intimidated.
Meanwhile Kim and her trusty sidekick Bryant delve into the world of prostitution to try and solve the murder but the bodies begin to pile up.
This is a dark tale filled with tense riveting turns. Grooming, forced prostitution, illegal immigration and exploitation of the vulnerable all lead to an explosive climax. There are some really detestable characters in this book but the author does not use them as shock value. Rather they are a credible and integral part of the story.
The character development in this series has been gradual but fantastic. The relationship between Stacey and Dawson was foremost in this story and I loved it. We already know Bryant has Kim's back but this is a real solid team of four now.
Come on Angela we need the next instalment.
A story that covers baby abandonment and modern slavery. At times this was a very uncomfortable read but compelling at the same time
