Wow, just wow! Another fantastic read. I was hooked from the beginning till end, not a moment in between disappointing me.
The Kim Stone series includes one of my favourite teams. Although I love Kim, it's the actions of the other members of her team that have me smiling to myself; the odd sweet moments you didn't see coming that totally catch you off guard. Couple this with a ruthless killer, a gut-wrenching plot & a few brilliant one liners; trust me, you're in for a treat!
Angela Marsons' writing style is fantastic, the way she can weave a number of storylines into one explosive ending is phenomenal; I am very excited to see what comes next.
Thank you Netgalley & Bookouture. 🖌
My thoughts? Hahaha! If only. I'm all discombobulated and in need of a stiff drink or two. Good grief.
If you've been following my blog, you'll know I read the previous books in this series in rather quick succession as a bit of a challenge and I just completely fell in love. This is one of my most favourite detective series and I can't believe we're already at book seven! What's more, Angela Marsons shows no signs of slowing down and continues to deliver to the most remarkable standard. Both she and Kim Stone are still kicking some serious ... behinds and taking numbers.
There's so much going on in this story. A young prostitute is found dead and a tiny baby is found outside the police station. The team is split up as Kim and Bryant investigate the case of the prostitute and Stacey and Kev try to find the mother of the abandoned baby. What follows is one heck of a rollercoaster ride of emotions. I went from horror to anger to having a lump in my throat as these investigations lead to such heartbreaking scenarios like grooming, entrapment, prostitution and modern slavery.
Utterly gripping and compelling, taut with suspense and with various threads to keep me hooked, Broken Bones kept me on the edge of my sofa. This series has some brilliant character development and I couldn't possibly love this team and its camaraderie any more than I already do. No spoilers obviously, but I had an "aaawww" moment and there were also a few chuckles.
It left my head spinning. I'm exhausted, really I am. My mind is totally blown.
I can't recommend this series enough. It's a belter and if you're into police procedurals and crime fiction, the Kim Stone books most definitely deserve a place on your bookshelf. I'd like some more, please.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book from the begining to the end. It was a great page turner and well paced novel which I could recommend to anyone loving this genre. Eagerly await the next Kim Stone. My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review this book.
I must confess I requested this book without realising the series was so far progressed and - as a result - struggled to get engaged with characters who are obviously already well developed and (it seems from other reviews) very popular.
I've had to put a star rating to submit this but this is not an indication of my thoughts.
Another fantastic book from Angela Marsons, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
This series seems to get better and better the more you get to know each character.
Kim and Bryant are back working together and I love the dynamic between them.
This story is quite dark as young girls are being murdered from the ‘strip’ which is where the prostitutes work.
Alongside this Stacey and Dawson are working on another investigation which also takes them to some dark places.
This book will keep you gripped from the moment you start and won’t let go until you’ve finished!
Loved it!
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for sending me an advance copy of the book.
I can't believe that we are at book 7 already. Usually at this point in a series, it starts to get a bit tired. There is absolutely no sign of this happening here, not in the slightest. This book is as fresh and as good, if not better than those that have gone before. Speaking of which, it's always a good idea to read a series in the right order and this one is no exception to that rule. Especially important with this one as the main characters grow and develop so much through the series which is also quite character driven in nature, that you would miss out on so much if you don't do that here. Anyway, every book has been brilliant so really, time would be your only enemy in not doing this.
We start with a bit of comedy gold. Kim gets to look after a baby which she finds abandoned outside the police station. Luckily she calls on the rest of the gang to help her and they duly all turn up, armed with carrier bags full of the required accessories. Their laughing at the boss is cut short when they are called to the scene of a murdered prostitute. Kim and Bryant crack on investigating that case whilst Stacey and Dawson are tasked with finding the baby's mother. Pairings that become more significant at the books goes on but which also give all four amigos mostly equal billing which allowed me as a reader to really get to know them better, especially Stacey and Dawson.
The stories contained hereafter takes us on a rather horrific journey including several of the hot topics current in the news today . People smuggling and trafficking, prostitution, grooming and slavery; all extremely well researched and sensitively handled I hasten to add. We also get more of a glimpse into Kim's own past and the world from which she came and the obstacles she had to personally overcome to get to where she is today. We also see the path she could have trod. It really shows what Kim is made of when you see where she came from, yet also see where she is now and there is a wonderful scene in the drop in centre where she talks to a young family. Had me weeping buckets that did.
Yes it's rather hard hitting at times but we are talking about crime fiction here so you can't expect hearts and flowers and fairies but, as usual, Ms Marsons keeps the book balanced by all her usual methods; her banter between the gang of four, their obvious closeness and family trait of looking out for each other really does lighten the mood enough to lighten the mood on occasion.
All in all, a cracking addition to an already brilliant series. Roll on book eight!
My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.
I would like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Broken Bones’, the seventh in the Detective Kim Stone series written by Angela Marsons, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
The abandoning of a baby outside the police station on a freezing winter’s night together with the murder of women employed in the sex trade and leading to the discovery of illegal workers from Romania, starts an investigation for Detective Kim Stone and her team.
I’ve read all previous six books from the series and was delighted to be offered ‘Broken Bones’ to read. It was a pleasure to meet Kim’s team again, Bryant, Dawson and Stacey Wood, who felt like old friends. I admire the character of Kim Stone who’s gritty, tough and passionate about finding the criminals, and those of her team who watch each other’s backs. I’ve enjoyed all previous six books but this time Angela Marsons has surpassed all my expectations. This novel was amazing, I couldn’t put it down and was disappointed when it came to an end. Marsons is an exceptional writer who brings excitement and suspense into each novel. ‘Broken Bones’, in line with the other six in the series, keeps the reader enthralled, the plot is gripping and exciting with a thrilling conclusion, and it’s impossible to put down until the last page has been reached. I can’t wait to read number eight.
This is not my usual genre, but I have fallen in love with Angela Marsons’ writing, and with the character of DI Kim Stone, and I can’t wait for the next book to find out what happens to her next. Such is the quality of her writing, Kim and her colleagues have become very real, and I love their interactions and the dialogue between them.
The story begins with a murdered prostitute, and an abandoned baby, neither of which have any apparent connection. As the investigation continues more prostitutes die, and then a man who is obviously not. How do all these tie together - not necessarily in the way you may imagine.
A very cleverly crafted book which keeps you guessing until the very end. Another Angela Marsons triumph.
It’s hard to believe that we are on the seventh book in the Kim Stone series, where has the time gone? It certainly doesn’t feel that long ago when I first read Silent Scream and was introduced to the brilliant Kim Stone. Angela Marsons once again continues to prove that she is one of the best crime writers in the business, at the end of each instalment I’m always left hungry for more.
In the run up to Christmas, Kim and her team are left bewildered when a baby is left on the doorstep of the police station. An investigation begins to track down the baby’s mother but this quickly becomes complicated. Meanwhile, Kim and Bryant are called away from the investigation when the body of a young prostitute is discovered. But as their investigation progresses, more dead bodies begin to turn up and Kim and her team realise that this is the work of a twisted individual.
Angela Marsons grabbed me from the start with Broken Bones and this has been the same with all of her books. She opens the novel with a tense, startling prologue which sets the tone for the rest of the book. In the latest instalment Angela explores the dark side of humanity as she takes the reader into the terrifying world of prostitution and human trafficking. What I really like about Angela’s writing is her ability to make each theme feel fresh, some of the themes have been explored before in crime fiction, but Angela has always had the ability to put them in a different light. As the reader, she really makes me care for the victims in the book and that’s what I’m always looking for when I read a book, I want to be able to discuss it with a friend and persuade them to read the book. This is what Angela always succeeds at.
So if you haven’t discovered the Kim Stone series yet, firstly where have you been? But secondly, I implore you to read them all, in each book Angela gives us something new and she will always leave you wanting more and I for one can’t wait to read her next book, once you discover Kim Stone, you’ll want to read them all. Thank you to Bookouture and Netgalley for the advance reading copy.
Firstly, thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me a pre-release copy of this book in return for an honest review.
The book opens with a 16 year old girl sat on top of a high-rise building contemplating the life she's been given when someone sneaks up behind her and pushes her off to her death. A murder within a couple of pages always, to me, signifies a good book.
It turns out that 16 year old Lauren was forced into prostitution by her Mother so that she could retire from the world's oldest profession. Within the first third of the book, two more prostitutes are murdered. Add in a sideline of an abandoned baby, which our heroine Kim Stone finds and has to initially deal with, some people trafficking and modern day slavery, there is an awful lot going on in this book and DI Stone's team are stretched to the limit.
This is the 7th book in the Kim Stone series, and I've read and enjoyed all the previous episodes. They whole series has got better book by book so I knew full well I was going to be reading a belter. A facebook friend of mine who is also a fan of this series told me he couldn't put it down, that it was a real page turner. And, knowing his taste in books, I trusted his judgement. And he wasn't wrong. I was hooked from the prologue, I too was struggling to put it down and wanted to keep reading. Just one more chapter. I'll go back to work after this chapter....you get the picture. And, there was the final twist at the end that I really, really wasn't expecting that finished the book off a treat for me.
I say it every time I review a book in this series, it's the best one so far. But in this one, Angela has really excelled herself. To put all this together she must have a wonderful imagination. I truly can't wait for the next adventure for Kim Stone and her team.
Angela Marsons does it again! Brilliant. Her 7th Kim Stone novel and they just keep getting better. This book looks at a topic that's very much in the news at the moment, slavery, prostitution and grooming. Good job Kim and her team are here to put things right!
Gripping, easy to read with short quick chapters that keep the book moving at a fast pace.
This book also looks at some relationships within the team more and it's great to always be learning more about the characters with each book..
Loved it and would definitely recommend. When's the next one out?
Fab story featuring the usual cast. Realistic story lines and very topical.
Another book by Angela Marsons that so deserves more than 5 stars. Again an exception read, with twists and a nail biting story line.
I just can't believe we are at book 7. I have loved each and everyone of these books, and I think any crime thriller fan will love the series. I always say this is a personal opinion but I think the books are so much better read in order.
So just think now, you have not read any of these. You now have the chance to read 7 awesome books back to back. I sometime wish I could erase a good series from my head, so that I could start again and read them all back to back.
So anyways,... Book 7 and Kim and her team a faced with more gruesomeness.
This story starts off with an abandoned baby outside the police station which of course it's Kim her very non maternal self that finds the baby. This soon turns into a hunt for finding the child's mother. Along side this we have murdered prostitutes. And Kim and her team as usual are working flat out.
I really don't know how Angela does it, but yet again this book is my favourite to date. Each book somehow out does the last one. I didn't think this series could get any better but it certainly does. I for one can not wait to read more. and more, and more.
I love the character that is Kim Stone, she's just been written perfectly. I have to say this book felt more like getting to know the whole team better. A brilliant set of characters put together.
Angela Marsons has now become of those authors whose books you don't need to read the blub, you know you want to read it because of the author. This book certainly deserves more than the given 5 stars. This book certainly hit's the ground running and doesn't stop. What? OMG? NO? just a few of the words falling out my mouth while reading it.
I can't praise this book or this author enough. Nail biting, thrilling, twisty, and a damn good read to boot.
The baby boy was around three months old and well looked after; a healthy child. But when he was discovered abandoned on an extremely cold night at the door to Detective Kim Stone’s police station, the search for his mother began immediately. Within hours though, Kim was called to the site of a murder – the young prostitute had been brutally savaged – Kim’s protective instincts went on full alert…
It was soon obvious that the murder wasn’t a lone occurrence when more prostitute deaths followed – Kim and her team were scrambling to find answers, and determined to stop more deaths. Meanwhile, Dawson and Stacey continued to search for the baby’s mother – but when they were led to a factory of Romanian women workers, their senses heightened. They knew there was something wrong with the situation, but would they be able to discover what it was?
Kim could feel the sinister undercurrents rippling through the areas she and Bryant were digging into – but she couldn’t make the pieces fit. She was frustrated – she would get to the bottom of the evil which had crossed her path, once and for all…
Broken Bones by Angela Marsons is #7 in the DI Kim Stone series and another brilliant episode! The tension and intrigue that this author is famous for is there; the gritty, chilling suspense kept me turning the pages needing to find out more! An excellent psychological thriller, Broken Bones is one I have no hesitation in recommending highly.
With thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for my digital copy to read and review.
Broken Bones is the 7th in the D.I Kim Stone series. I have read and loved them all and this one doesn’t disappoint.
Kim is back with her team, when she investigates a murder of a young prostitute and on the same night, a baby has been left abandoned outside the police station. You see a softer side of Kim when she goes and investigates where is the mother of the abandoned baby. But, whilst the investigation progresses, we learn the exploitation of illegal immigrants, slavery and human trafficking. We also learn in this story of how vulnerable young girls are groomed too become young prostitutes out on the street.
I was so excited to read this as Angela doesn’t disappoint in her stories. I loved every minute of this. Not only for the characters in this story, that you can easily relate too. But it is gripping, pacey unputdownable book. Also the subject matter in the story is so up to date and realistic. She does her research very well. I can’t wait for what else Angela has in store.
Thank you Bookouture, Angela Marsons and Netgalley for an ARC of this book.
oh wow, oh wow, oh wow I just loved the latest DI Kim Stone installment. Fast paced and exciting I raced through it in a couple of days.
A young prostitute is found death and a baby abandoned on the same night. Are the cases connected? Three more sex workers are murdered and the team wonder if this is the work of a serial killer or a brutal pimp.
Kim and her trusty team - Bryant, Dawson and Stacey pull together to put those responsible behind bars. What is the connection to the handbag factory and the immigrants working there? And will Ellie get out alive? There's also a twist I just didn't see coming. Highly recommend. Great read!
It was good but not great. It had a very slow beginning but a good twist in the end. The chapters seemed very choppy instead of flowing with one another. On the flip side side it had good content, good characters and the ending made it worth the slow start. I would recommend it.
Kim, I feel your pain. When she discovers an abandoned baby outside police headquarters, Kim panics. She’s got about the same level of maternal instinct and skills as I do, which is to say none.
The story involves not only the abandoned baby but a series of murders of prostitutes and possible illegal immigrants being forced to work as slave Labor. Kim’s team struggles to solve all the crimes.
Angela Marsons remains one of my favorite mystery authors. I love her writing - the pace, the details, the believability (is that a word?). As with all her previous novels, the interactions of the team really drew me in. There's just something very heartwarming about this group and how they care for each other. It reminds me of Archer Mayor’s Joe Gunther series.
Marsons picks timely issues, this time illegal immigration and current slavery issues. There’s a moral aspect to her works that brings an added dimension to the mystery genre which I appreciate. I highly recommend this book and the entire series.
My thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of this book.
This is the seventh in the DCI Kim Stone series and another cracking read. A baby is left at the police station, a young girl is killed and the team are investigating prostitution, possible illegal immigration and human trafficking. Nothing is ever simple, the answers never cut and dried and Kim and her team struggle to keep their professional distance. Things come close to home sometimes and they have to listen to their gut instincts. ‘What would the boss do?’ they sometimes ask themselves – out of Kim’s hearing!
This team, though from very different backgrounds, work like a family. The sort of family where the members respect one another, share joys and fears, and yet still have that little secret. We learn a few more in this book. Angela Marsons has created some fantastic characters and she puts them in perilous situations. This series goes from strength to strength.
#7 in Marson's terrific Kim Stone series set in England sees Stone's team tackling 2 very different cases.......one where a baby has been abandoned right outside Police HQ, and the other where prostitutes are being targeted by a serial killer. This was a well constructed plot that weaved a gruesome, yet fascinating tale of people trafficking, slavery and exploitation of teenage girls. Stone, Bryant, Dawson and Stacey continue to evolve book after book, with (for me) emphasis on Dawson in this one, who I saw as so much more than the annoying cop I had seen so far. Once again, a book that touches on some taboo subjects is expertly handled by Marsons. Thanks to Bookouture and Net Galley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
