Although this is the 7th book in the series, it seems like no time at all since Kim Stone blew into our lives (and hearts) in all her leathers on her beloved Kawasaki Ninja.
The murder of a young prostitute and a baby found abandoned on the same winter night signals the start of a disturbing investigation for Detective Kim Stone – one which brings her face to face with someone from her own horrific childhood. When another 3 prostitutes are found murdered in quick succession, Kim and her team realise this is no one off attack.
Kim pairs Dawson and Stacy together to investigate the appearance of the baby found abandoned outside the Police Station, drawing Stacy out of her comfort zone safely behind the computer after her terrifying ordeal a few months ago.
Kim and Bryant are dealing with the murders of the sex workers, and in doing this, uncover disturbing secrets and conspiracies.
Both investigations progress, and the more they find out, the more danger they uncover, leading to a terrifying stand still where Kim's life is in danger. Will she escape with her life, or will she nail the evil culprit?
I honestly am in complete awe of Angela Marsons. This extremely talented lady has an amazing knack of creating such fantastic characters who are instantly taken into your heart. She also excels at writing such deep dark, thoroughly gripping scenarios. There were so many separate things going on in Broken Bones, yet magically they all have a link to each other.
A huge 25 stars for this, I honestly think this may well be the best book I've read in a long time.
Book 7 in the DI Kim Stone series.
It's Christmas Day and a young prostitute is murdered and a baby is found abandoned. The disturbing investigation will bring Kim stone face to face with with someone from her horrific childhood. Three more sex workers are are killed and each death is more violent than the last. There is a twisted serial killer preying on the vulnerable. At the same time there is a desperate woman who left a her newborn baby at the station
This series just gets better and better. Once again the author takes us on a roller coaster of a ride and does not let us back off until the end. With its fast pace and characters that are true to life. This book can be read as a standalone but I do recommend you start at the beginning as this is a fantastic series. I highly recommend this book.
I would like to thank NetGalley, Bookouture and the author Angels Marsons for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
On a cold winter night, a prostitute is found murdered and a baby is found abandoned near the Police Station. This is the start of a chain of events which makes Kim remember some of her traumatic childhood experiences. The investigation is fast-paced and thrilling and there were some really unexpected twists. It kept me guessing until the very end.
This book was amazing! This series just keeps getting better and better. I have been disappointed by quite a few books from my favourite authors this year, but this was not the case here. It was absolutely fabulous and enthralling!
Well done Angela Marsons and Bookouture, this is an amazing book! Looking forward to the next book in the series.
We are back for the latest installment of this treasured series with the beloved DI Kim Stone, which Angela Marsons has made unmissable. Marsons continues with the hard hitting series giving us a well researched and gritty look at the horrors of our contemporary world. There are multiple threadlines in this tense and thrilling book. It is Christmas day, and would you believe it, left on the steps of the police station Kim finds an abandoned baby which sparks a hunt for the desperate mother. On the same night, the body of a brutally murdered prostitute is discovered. Both cases turn out to be more complex than expected incorporating criminal gangs, illegal immigration, enforced prostitution, grooming, and modern day slavery. This is a story not only of broken bones, but of broken lives.
Kim returns to working with Bryant, their rock solid relationship a delight to behold as they look into the murder of the prostitute. More murders occur and it is apparent that there is a deadly serial killer targeting sex workers. There are those who think investigating the killing of prostitutes should not be a high priority, Kim and her team refuse to accept this perspective and are determined and focused in finding their killer. Stacey and Kevin Dawson search for the missing mother, only to find themselves coming face to face with the grim and menacing trade in humans. We also became aware of Kevin's heartbreaking secret. We learn more about Kim as insights reveal the horrors of her childhood.
Marsons is a gifted writer who manages to deliver terrific storytelling time after time. This is a brilliant series that is completely enthralling. At the heart of it are the close knit team, with their bantering and supporting relationships, held together by the towering Kim Stone. Marsons excels in her complex characterisations and how she develops each one. A fantastic read which I highly recommend. Many thanks to Bookouture for an ARC.
This is the 7th book in the D.I. Kim Stone series ! I have read all of Angela Marsons's books and loved every single one ! This had a great storyline. The book focuses on murdered prostitutes , an abandoned baby , slavery , a man with broken bones and a runaway teen ! Loved this book and highly recommend it if you like a good police procedural ! I would like to thank Netgalley , Bookouture and Angela Marsons for the digital copy in exchange for my honest review ! Posting my review on Goodreads , Netgalley , Instagram, Twitter and Amazon .
This is the 7th book in the Kim Stone series but only the second one I have read and I have to see it was brilliant. A very fast paced engaging storyline that kept me on the edge of my seat. I wanted to keep reading to see how the story panned out but I also didn’t want the book to end!! I have only just discovered this author but I will definitely be buying all the other books she has written.
This is the seventh Kim Stone book and it does not fail to catch your attention.
Kim finds a baby abandoned outside the police station on a cold snowy night, meanwhile a badly injured man is left for dead on a canal path and a young prostitute has also been found dead. Kim and her team have to sift through the evidence to try and put the pieces together, as several more prostitutes are murdered, Kim has to decide whether they are dealing with a serial killer.
This is a gritty and fast paced book, it keeps you focused and interested, the storyline is realistic and up to date, Kim is a fantastic character, she is tough but also compassionate, she keeps track of her team and they all look out for one another. This is another excellent offering from Angela Marsons which I would highly recommend.
The DI Kim Stone series by Angela Marsons is one of the best in modern crime fiction. The latest instalment has a very contemporary feel to it, dealing as it does with illegal immigrants being exploited by ruthless employers, abduction of minors, human trafficking and prostitution. What I particularly like is that, although the members of Stone's team have problems in their personal lives, they work together superbly and all get on!
The seventh in the D.I. Kim Stone series, continuing in the same way….brilliant and gripping.
I was hooked in from the start, there is just no let-up in the content.
Yet again it was one of those books that I wanted to read at every opportunity, so fast-paced.
I love Kim’s working relationship with Bryant, he knows her so well. Stace was let out of the office this time and partnered up with Dawson, she featured much more than her usual role of being attached to a desktop pc. Still love the spelling out in the local dialect :)
I think the story was excellent, and I never guessed how it would go.
Reading an Angie Marsons book I find out so many things. I feel like I learn something new with every book. This time it was the modern day slave trade and people ownership, I just had no idea at all. I think I must live in a nice, cosy bubble, with my nice family and nice house where nothing bad ever happens!
I recommend this book 100%, and all the others in the series.
Angie Marsons is definitely one of my favourite authors, I think the books are just fantastic.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for my review copy in exchange for an honest review.

I get very excited when the latest Kim Stone book is released. As always, this was worth the wait. Kim and her team are thrown into the murky world of prostitution and people trafficking. The pace is fast and the writing and characters are as fantastic as ever. I read this in 24 hour’s - highly recommended
I am a huge fan of this series but even I keep waiting for Ms Marsons to produce a weak link in the chain. I am still waiting. Kim's team is back together and after her ordeal Stacy is keen to prove she's still up to the job. The subject matter surrounding the abandoned baby is heart wrenching and will I'm sure cause a lot of internal questions in readers about how they would act in that situation. Apart from this story line we also have a cracking good serial killer out there picking on the most vulnerable in society and yet again for Kim the answers lie dangerously close to home. Read it and enjoy it. I did.
Broken Bones is like playing Crack-the-Whip without the grass stains!
Thank you Netgalley, Book Outre, and Angela Marsons for the ARC.
DI Kim Stone just keeps getting better & better. She's still a real kick-ass, square-peg in a round hole character, but her soft/human side really started to shine through in Broken Bones. While this could be read as a stand-alone book, the previous 6 books in the series should be read to fully appreciate her development as a character, as well as her development of the "team" she heads within the Police Department. Broken Bones starts with two separate "offiical" cases and just grows and morphs from there. The short chapters alternate between cases and while these abrupt switches were somewhat disorienting for me initially ("Wait, What?" Where am ??"), it didn't take too long for me to appreciate their whiplash effect.
Now all I really need is a quiet weekend to re-read the entire series in order to really savor the books.
I love this series. Never a dull moment. Most series when they start to get to the 7th, 8th, 9th book the characters in it become too predictable not this character. The author is constantly changing the character for the better. This series is a must read for anyone who enjoys strong female characters.
Absolutely captivated from the start, the storyline was both unpredictable and gripping. This has to be a No 1 best seller and deserves far more than the 5 stars awarded. Now to start the series from the beginning as this is the first that I have read by this amazing author. Grateful thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for allowing me to read this brilliantly written book.
Broken Bones is yet another tour de force from Angela Marsons. There are many interwoven strands in this book and I did begin to wonder how they would be all joined by the end, but as ever they are expertly brought together.
D. I. Kim Stone leads her team in a case/s that involve murder, prostitution, slave labour and child abandonment. This team has evolved as one that works so well, each individual has grown with each book in this series and it's lovely to be taken along with them.
Can be read as a standalone, but if this is your first book you'll want to rush and read the previous 7, lucky you!!
My thanks to net galley and publisher for opportunity to review this book
Kim and her team are kept very busy in this book.Loads going on seemingly unrelated a baby is dumped a prostitute is killed and a young girl is in a perilous position , and that is just the start.I guess this reflects the way it really is for a police team, things don't happen in single file a lot can be going on at the same time some times related some times not.I always like the pace of the books and the fact there are so many plates spinning.I also love the settings as I know where the places are as I used to live in the area .this book also reveals more about Kim and her team and I enjoy getting to know them.As usual I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who likes this genre. Thanks to the publishers and netgalley for an ARC in return for an honest review.
How is it possible that I have just finished book 7 of this wonderful series? I have two issues with that statement, one amazement that there have already been seven DI. Kim Stone books, but also that it means I now have to start the long wait for the next book.
However by book 7 I'm really not sure what else I can say without actually sounding like a broken record, either with regards my gushing superlatives for the series, the police team and story, or in me telling you to just go buy the latest book and I'll see you once you are finished!
There are two main threads of story, split between Stone and Bryant working together do work out what is going on with some murdered prostitutes, and Dawson with Stacey working on just who abandoned a baby at the police station in winter.
I loved getting to know all four of these familiar police officers that little bit more with this book, and DI Kim Stone is starting to feel like a more rounded, less hard edged woman than she has been with previous installments. There are references all over the book, to the previous happenings in the series, which is only right, as people new to the series need relevant back story.
I was kept guessing throughout and was completely hooked on the action. I didn't predict any of the twists and just enjoyed seeing where the story was taking me. The pacing is reasonably quick and with two very different investigations going on, if one of the stories got slightly unpalatable for a bit, there was always the other coming up again soon.
Utterly gripping, Angela Marsons has done it once again, and produced another thrilling masterpiece.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
Another brilliant kim stone book, I just couldn't put it down! I love all the characters but especially Kim's attitude! I love that this as it's local based (for me) She just keeps me on the edge of my seat until all the pieces fit together at the end with the help of her team! It's lovely to learn more background for the other characters too and I love Stacey's accent being bought out in the book. Hoping there's another book out soon.
I do love a good detective story and this book provides it all. There are four separate incidences but do they connect? This book was really easy to read and kept me intrigued to the end. I love following the exploits of Kim stone and her team
4 stars
When DI Kim Stone finds a baby on the steps of the police station late at night, she goes into a panic. What’s she to do with a baby? She calls DS Bryant and he comes in attended by two other of her team. They barely get the baby sorted before a call comes into the station about a body. It turns out to be a young prostitute named Kelly Rowe. She was stabbed several times.
When DC Stacy and DS Dawson are out trying to find the woman who left the baby, they get an urgent call from the station. It seems that several women have shown up at the station all claiming to be the mother of the abandoned child. The blanket that the child was wrapped in is recognized as Romanian in origin. They go to visit the Robertson’s. They own a purse making facility that employs mostly Romanian workers. After receiving practically no information, they wait outside the facility in order to talk to some of the workers after work. Lo and behold, they leave together on a bus.
A young girl goes missing after meeting a new “friend” on Facebook. She is drugged, kidnapped and lied to. She is in a great deal of trouble.
Meanwhile Kim and Bryant are looking for clues about the murder of Kelly Rowe. They visit the sex workers and talk to them, but have very little luck and garner almost no information. More women die and the tension in the story and with the team ratchets up.
The investigation continues when another body is discovered. It is another strange murder that seems to have no connection to the others – or does it?
This book covers a gamut of crimes: kidnapping, sexual slavery, murder, illegal immigration and gangs. These are some difficult topics. Kim and her team deal with it competently and professionally. Kim is a strong woman, but still vulnerable in some areas. She is a great team leader.
This book is well written and plotted, as are all of Angela Marsons’ novels. The suspense begins immediately with the abandonment of the baby and continues at a high level until the denouement of the story. I appreciated the way Kim lead her team and the way they all got along with one another. Well done, Ms. Marsons! I will continue to read her books with avid interest.
I want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for forwarding to me a copy of this great book to read and enjoy.
