Great book, love this author and how they can keep my attention to the end! The plot is well developed, characters are believable and they obviously paid attention to detail to make the story worth your time to read.

If you lifted lines straight out of The Breakfast Club and plopped them down into One Of Us is Lying, you would get this novella. The plot itself is predictable and kind of ridiculous overall. The events that happen to keep the flow going can be laughable. With the shorter page count, the reader doesn’t get to know the characters in any way other than superficially. Because of this, I never cared about the things that were happening to them. Maybe a pre-teen would really like this? It’s basically a B-horror movie without any of the things that make a B-horror movie fun, and it’s walking the line of just being straight-up plagiarism.

This book was really interesting, fast-paced, and I had to stay up to see what happened! I was a bit disappointed in the ending, but overall, it was a good read.

First I wanted to to thank NetGalley for a ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.Readinf the description reminded me of the Breakfast club, Six teenagers meet in Saturday detention: a brain, a beauty, a cheerleader, a rebel, a recluse and the new girl.

But someone is watching. Someone has made sure that they are all in the same room at the same time. Someone knows that each of them is hiding a terrible secret and by the end of detention, everyone will know the truth.
I would highly recommend.

Unfortunately I didn't finish this book, as I couldn't get into it - nothing against the author or book, just not to my personal taste. Thank you for the opportunity to read it.

Six Little Secrets was a title that I was super excited to read, but I found it a bit plodding overall. The plot sounded great, but the writing was lacking and character development was less than ideal. I always look for books that will appeal to my high school students; I was sad that this was not a good fit. Thank you for letting me review it.

Thank you to HQ Digital for providing me with an e-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Six seemingly random teens are gathered in their high school library for a Saturday detention. Mere minutes after being left alone with their task for the day an ominous voice comes over the speaker system to announce that their detention wasn't as arbitrary as it seemed:

"The six of you were selected to be here today because you are all hiding something. A secret. One that eats you up inside each day. I'm here to set you free."

The teens (unsure of the validity of the statement) at first ignore the mystery message. But they soon discover their twisted taunter is not to be ignored. Each teen is presented with a time-sensitive task that should they fail will result in their secret being divulged. And while some of these tasks seemed reasonable, some were pretty extreme and understandably uncomfortable for this fictitious crew.

This novella is getting lots of comparisons to One of Us is Lying, which I get given The Breakfast Club crew and the detention setting, however, saying one is better than the other is difficult considering their lengths. As I stated previously, this is a novella as opposed to a full-length novel and thus the characterization and plot don't have as much room to develop. And while I do believe this is a better whodunit than OoUiL, it's not without its faults.

Despite getting hooked into this novella pretty quickly (namely due to discovering what each teen was hiding and their corresponding tasks), I feel like the ending just didn't pack the same punch as the preceding segments. While it was intriguing to see how the odd crew was connected, the punishments seemed WAY too intense after the reveal. Some of course deserved a lesson, but others felt circumstantial at best.

At the end of the day, it kept my interest and if you're a fan of high-school based whodunits this may be the thriller for you.

2.5 stars.

This Novella was OK. There were a few holes in the story but nothing major. The story flowed pretty well. It seems to be similar to the movie, The Breakfast Club but it is also original at the same time which I think it needed to be. The revelation of who the mystery person was (you will know what I mean of you read this or have read it) was not shocking or anything but just alright. It was a quick read and interesting enough to keep you reading.

6 kids in detention, with nothing in common except that they each have a secret. Even the main character is keeping something from us.
This is quite a short book so everything happens quickly, but this keeps it fast paced and interesting. I have read other books with a similar premise though there are a few surprises.
Not quite as deadly as it says on the cover.

Six Little Secrets by Katlyn Duncan

Thanks to NetGalley and publisher HQ Digital for the ebook ARC of Six Little Secrets by Katlyn Duncan in exchange for an honest review.

Some secrets can never stay hidden for long….

Six teenagers meet in Saturday detention at school: a brain, a beauty, a cheerleader, a rebel, a recluse and the new girl.
But someone is watching. Someone has made sure that they are all in the same room at the same time. Someone knows that each of them is hiding a terrible secret… and by the end of detention, everyone will know the truth.

I give this book a rating of 3 stars. It was a fast paced read. It was ok , nothing really great though. There wasn’t really much to it. It just felt like it was lacking something.

Saw meets up with Breakfast club in this book. It has a great story line, the jumping between characters transgressions to the present and back wasn't distracting in any way, and helped the story flow more easily. I really did not expect the bad guy when they were revealed, and enjoyed the book thoroughly. Recommended.

A few pages in this book and I know it will not be as good as One of Us is Lying and so I immediately put my expectation down a notch or two. It took me a while to get into the story despite the interesting start as none of the characters are likeable enough. Most of them seem one dimensional and sadly wasn’t given the time to at least redeem themselves. Good thing it was a short one, more like a novella. But I think it is because of that the story suffers. There is not much depth to it and it also lacks character development. Which is a disappointment because it is really promising. I believe if it’s a full-length novel, it could’ve delved deeper into the characters lives and at least would give an insight about them.

The secrets are really what keeps me reading. I wanted to know what those teens are hiding and what are the challenges and punishments given to them. Some secrets are pretty scandalous and some punishments are kinda drastic and dangerous compared to others which defeat the purpose of the whole thing come revelation. As for the mystery of who the person trying to punish them or why they are doing it, there are not a lot to go to to even try to guess. Which is why the reveal may surprise some, or not because of the lack of build-up.

I still think it’s an okay read. It had a lot of potentials that it failed to explore. Definitely could be better. Had it come out before One of Us Is Lying, maybe I’ll give it a higher rating. But with exactly the same premise, the comparison is inevitable and one will surely come on top of the other.

Six Little Secrets is a YA novella written by Katlyn Duncan and one which most certainly reminded me of the John Hughes film, The Breakfast Club. From the moment I first heard about this book I was instantly intrigued and knew it would be one I had to read. With twist after twist and shock after shoft, Six Little Secrets was a book that definitely kept me on my toes and was one that I did quite enjoy reading.

Within this book we meet six students - Zoe, Cece, Quentin, Jackie, Teddy and Holly - who all gather together one Saturday morning for a detention. All from different cliques, these are six students who would not normally socialise or talk to eachother. However, soon after their detention begins, something dark happens and it becomes apparent that each of them is holding a very dark secret and that nobody is there by accident. As each of them in turn receives instructions that they must follow or face the consequences for not doing so the question on everyone’s mind is who is doing this to them and why?

Throughout the duration of the book we get to hear from each of the six characters who are gathered for their Saturday morning detention, but possibly due to the short length of the book I never really felt like I got to know them. I felt that this was quite a shame as I feel certain that there was more to each of the characters than their secret. At the start of the book each of the characters seemed so very different from eachother that it was impossible to imagine how their lives could ever be connected. Therefore it really is quite incredible to find out exactly how they all join up and link together.

One thing that I didn’t realise prior to picking up Six Little Secrets was that it was actually a novella. Given its short length, I read the book an incredibly short of space of time but couldn’t help feeling that the entire book seemed far too short and lacked any real depth or description to it. Despite this I really did enjoy the premise of the book and thoroughly appreciated Katlyn’s writing style and thought it was perfect for the genre of the book - gripping, fast-paced and quite unpredictable.

Six Little Secrets was an enjoyable book but was one that would most certainly have worked better as a longer read, which would have allowed Katlyn more time to go into more detail and develop on both the themes and characters that she presented to us throughout the book. That said I feel it would be a perfect read for those who enjoyed watching The Breakfast Club and I would definitely be interested in reading more of what Katlyn writes in the future.

A fabulously, gripping, suspenseful mystery of a predator that preys on students. Sadly, it is very realistic in our society.

With the feel of One of Us is Lying meets Pretty Little Liars, it was a dark and short read that I enjoyed from start to finish.

Short but definitely not sweet. In another dark homage to The Breakfast Club we have the story of a brain, a beauty, a cheerleader, a rebel, a recluse and the new girl, all in detention on a Saturday. But there's no accident to then all been there at the same time, someone has gathered them together to reveal their darkest secrets.

I thinks it's good in one sense this was a novella as the story isn't quite in-depth enough to warrant a full novel. But in another way it's not great as you never really get to know the characters - it's only the bad stuff you hear so it's hard to sympathise. With the exception of Zoe the characters are all pretty one dimensional. Had this come out a year ago then perhaps it would have been more enjoyable but because it's so soon after One of Us is Lying it's impossible not to compare and sadly it doesn't bear up against it. For a quick undemanding read it's ok but could have been a lot better.

REVIEW: SIX LITTLE SECRETS

Title: Six Little Secrets
Author: Katlyn Duncan
Publisher: HQ Digital

My rating:

Some secrets can never stay hidden for long…

Six teenagers meet in Saturday detention: a brain, a beauty, a cheerleader, a rebel, a recluse and the new girl. But someone is watching. Someone has made sure that they are all in the same room at the same time.

Someone knows that each of them is hiding a terrible secret… …and by the end of detention, everyone will know the truth.

I went into this not knowing it was a novella but I think my rating would have been the same.

I really didn't like this novella. It wasn't well developed... It's actually hard to talk about this book ahah

So it started well, I was intrigued and really wanted to know what was going to happen. The problem was that when everything started happening it all seemed way to fake and it was obvious some characters were involved.

I didn't like any of the characters...they were all annoying. The one character I actually tolerated, which the author totally did intended for me to like this character, in the end was also crappy. I was and still am mad about it.

This novella felt like a book without the middle part. The start was tolerable and it could have actually been developed into a really interesting story but everything was thrown at you from nowhere. Literally nowhere, I had to reread the same page twice to try to understand why on one page I'm with the characters trying to figure everything out and on the next the culprit is just thrown at you. It was annoying.

Also the motive was kinda boring.

I can't with this novella. I'm so disappointed.

I don't recommend this novella unless you want to be mad at it.

Had elements from Pretty Little Liars which I liked and was also similar to One of Us is Lying.
