The premise for this sounded really interesting to me at first, but I really struggled to maintain my interest throughout the book. I can't put my finger on exactly what it was, maybe a mixture of things, but this book just wasn't for me unfortunately

Six very different students end up in Saturday detention together. Zoe, a loner and social outsider. Teddy, a smart kid on his way to becoming class valedictorian. Jackie, head cheerleader and gossip queen. Q troublemaker and bad boy. CeCe a spoilt rich girl.
They are trapped in a library and forcing them to complete tasks, each one getting more and more dangerous. Everyone of them has a secret and somebody is hell bent on exposing them.

I devoured this novella in a day, I just couldn’t put it down! To me it was a mix of 80’s movie The Breakfast Club and Pretty Little Liars.

It’s fast paced, well written and there is some good twists and turns.

I really liked Zoe, she seems the most sane one of the group and the one throughout the story that we get to know the best. She’s still grieving the death of her father and hiding out at Saturday detention, even though she doesn’t have to be there.

Okay yes there are a few cliches, the mean cheerleader and the spoilt rich girl for example but I think the author makes each character memorable, especially when the characters’ secrets are revealed.

My only compliant was I wish it was longer and maybe delved deeper into each of the characters backgrounds more. The ending was also a little predictable too but sometimes that’s just what a story needs.

I will definitely be reading more from this author again.

This book fell quite a bit short for me. I understand that it was a novella, so there really was not much room to dig deeper into the story, but the whole plot and mystery just felt forced to me. It's hyped up to be somewhat reminiscent of Sara Shepard's mysteries, which I love, but this was not even comparable. The premise itself was not unique, it actually reminded me of One of Us is Lying, a book that I enjoyed. But, unlike in that book, the characters were all so surface level and I really did not care what happened to any of them. Would not recommend wasting time with this book.

This book by Katlyn Duncan is best suited for those who want something short and simple. The plot isn’t overly complex, so it can be enjoyed in a couple of hours’ time.

Six Little Secrets has several characters and changes perspective several times. It might be a good way to open the door for discussion with teens about actions and their consequences.

Wow - when I started reading this book I did not expect it to be so good but it was and keeps the reader in suspense almost right up until the end.

It is vaguely reminiscent of the excellent 80’s film Breakfast Club but only so far as it is set in a weekend detention and features six students who are all very much far removed from one another - Teddy (the Nerd), Q (the Rebel), Jackie (the Cheerleader), CeCe (the little rich girl), Holly (the new girl) and Zoe (the nobody).

It soon becomes apparent that they have all been targeted to be at the detention and they each have a secret which, if they wish to protect, they must complete a task set by their tormentor.

The book is fast paced and I found myself racing through it eager to find out who was behind the torment and why these six people were targeted. All in all a really good read.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advance read copy.

Thanks Netgalley! This is is YA book with roughly 170 pages. however i am a 40 year old and i enjoyed it.
It tells the story of 6 characters, all bought together for detention in the library - however all is not all it seems. they are left to do a job in the library but then they hear someone - someone wanting to punish them, one by one for something they may or may not have done. What secrets do they all hold - will they admit to them, and what will happen to them if they don't.
This is like playing russian roulette with your own life - will they do what is asked of them, will they pull together and work together or put themselves above each other!
A great book for older teens!

Six Little Secrets is a curious novel filled with well… Secrets. It was an enjoyable read especially when I went into it blindly and found myself sucked into this entertaining read. At first I had no idea what was going on or why anything was happening, but once things got going I was in for a wonderful thrill ride.

As entertaining as this book was after two days when recalling the books I’ve recently read I realized I couldn’t remember this books title and when I had first rated this 4 Stars I found myself realizing I wasn’t really affected as much as I thought I was originally and I think I know why. While this book is written well and in an entertaining way I found myself predicting exactly what sort of content each scene would contain. This book had a very predictable format that I understand makes a lots of sense for the plot made me loose some of my engagement with the novel. It would go someone finds out they are next, flashback, then to the present with their decision and punishment and it became a little monotonous for me.

There is something to be said about how fun this would be to watch as a movie trying to figure out whose the culprit and what their motivations are. Six Little Secrets is definitely a creative and fun who dun it.. what’s going to happen next kind of book. It just ended up being ok for me and I think it had some potential to be a whole lot more (especially when certain spoilery things that happened among the reveals felt very unnecessary). In the end Six Little Secrets was a fun read being in the moment and I am happy with the intrigue I got from it (even as I wished for more).

Everyone has a secret and some will pay dearly to keep them.

Six teens are brought together for Saturday detention: a brain, a beauty, a cheerleader, a rebel, a recluse and the new girl. Sounds a little familiar right? Six little secrets is a deadly version of the Breakfast Club and as each key player takes their turn at the killers game the stakes become higher and higher.

The premise of Six Little Lies is nothing new. However, it has a familiar vibe that makes it seem familiar yet new at the same time. I really enjoyed the almost 'SAW' way that each task is presented to the participants. Each task seems to be created specifically to hurt them each in the most painful way.

For all that I liked though I found the reveal and ending a little lacking. Each chapter seemed to ramp up the tension only for the reveal to be inserted in a way that takes all the thunder out of the storm that had been building.

Over all not bad for a quick read with no strings attached.

What an interesting read. It was like a cross between ‘The Breakfast Club’ and ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer.’ Zoe and five of her classmates are set up into attending detention by a mysterious person who knows their secrets and threatens to broadcast them. The end result is that they unexpectedly end up forming a tight bond.

So the plot was a but reminiscent of One of Us is Lying. 6 kids stuck in detention, and each with a secret they will fight to keep. I liked the Breakfast Club meets Saw vibes I was getting from this book. I was surprised at some of the revelations and I think this book stands one its own. It reminded me a little of Stephen King's Fear Street saga that I loved as a kid.

Thank you to NetGalley for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Duncan’s Six Little Secrets is a young adult fiction that has a John Hughes Breakfast Club feeling with a dark edge. Told in the third person, the characters are well drawn and the plot is very engaging. Each of the seven main characters all play to prototypes which include the class clown, prom queen, fashionista, geek, etc . As each character becomes part of a dangerous game concerning the dark deed that they may or may not be part of, things take a drastic turn.

Duncan’s plot is captivating and keeps the reader entertained. She jumps back and forth in time to show the circumstances of how each of the characters find themselves in Saturday detentions. This works extremely well as it gives some depth to their personality types. This is where the author really comes into her own as she has perfectly captured her audience and characters. What starts out as stereotyping, Duncan switches things up to break away from the mould with great aplomb.

As this is a young adult fiction, the game is toned down for its audience and there maybe some hardened readers out there that may feel slightly cheated. The ending is a bit rushed and felt that with some lengthening and a better build up to the grand finale would have worked a treat. Saying this, I thoroughly enjoyed the book overall.

Overall, Duncan’s novella is a winner for the young adult fiction market. As she has broken the classic science-fiction tropes that most YA authors tend to go for, chasing the Maze Runner and Hunger Games dollars. It is refreshing to see a contemporary novel aimed for its audience. It does lend itself to the 13 Reasons Why audience but that shouldn’t take away from the over all premise.

Enjoyable, engaging and quick read that ticks all the boxes but lacks a certain depth to make it a fully rewarding read.

*Thanks to NetGalley and HQ Digital for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.* "Six Little Secrets" is the book you get when "Breakfast Club" and "Pretty Little Liars" have a baby. . The story focus on teenager Zoe who, for some inexplicable reason, chooses to attend Saturday detention every week in her school's library. This one Saturday, Zoe is joined by five of her classmates - the cheerleader, the nerd, the rebel... you get the idea... and their lives will be changed forever. A fast-paced and at times dark novella that I whipped through.

Six Little Secrets by Katlyn Duncan is psychological thriller, aimed at Young Adults.

First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher HQ Digital, and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Six students find themselves serving detention in the library one Saturday morning under the supervision of Mr. Curtis, one of the teachers at school.  Although they don’t have much in common, they soon realize that someone thinks they do.  Someone has been watching them very closely, and no secret is safe.  By the end of the day, secrets will be told, and consequences will be felt.

The story is told from the perspective of each student on both the day of detention, and the day the detention was assigned.  This works very well, keeping the plot fresh, and the stories straight.  It also creates a very fast pace, and the whole book is a fast read.  The “secrets” and “tasks” were quite inventive, and if not many of the secrets were a surprise, the tasks definitely were.  That being said, my biggest complaint about the book is that it was too short.  The author could easily have given the characters more depth.

Although not in the Young Adult group, I have reviewed a number of books for this target audience and enjoy most.  Although the plot was good, I think this one needed a little more depth/complexity.

Even so, I plan on checking out what else the author has written.

Six High School students find themselves thrown together in a Saturday morning detention. They don't know each other very well. Some of them they were convinced they shouldn't have been there at all! This isn't any ordinary detention. Mr Curtis, the teacher in charge, decides they can pay their debt to society by making a chain of the pledges made by students to avoid alcohol. They soon find that there are other things among the pledges. Each on in turn is given a forfeit. If they do not comply some secret will be revealed. Who is behind this elaborate plan? What connection is there between the six of them? What do they have to hide?

This story kept me guessing. It is quite short but hangs together well. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for giving me the chance to read and review it.

Six Little Secrets is brilliantly written, Katlyn really does know how to keep her readers hooked, I read this within a day and refused to leave the house! Highly recommended.

Six Little Secrets followed a formulaic approach to creating a drama that started with six students ending up in detention and then being faced with challenges or having their secrets told.

A similar plot to One Of Us Is Lying but with a less gripping and realistic start. Overall was a good read and improved as the book progressed

A great book with great characters. I loved the mystery aspect and couldn't figure out who the bad guy was.
